Yes. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is sold on Steam with a SteamOS + Linux requirements section, so Ubuntu users should install it through the official Steam client rather than searching for an unofficial Linux executable. The listing requires a 64-bit system, Vulkan support, 4 GB of RAM and at least 1 GB of storage; reserving 2 GB or more is sensible for updates and Steam data.
Steam lists Linux support, but that does not guarantee identical results on every Ubuntu release, graphics card or driver. Your actual experience depends on Vulkan, hardware and Steam configuration.
Check your Ubuntu system first
The Steam product page gives these Linux requirements:

These are the requirements published for the SteamOS + Linux build at the Steam store page. “2 GB VRAM” is the store’s stated figure, not a performance guarantee: driver quality, integrated graphics, resolution and your desktop environment can still affect playability.

- Use a 64-bit Ubuntu installation.
- Install current Ubuntu updates and graphics drivers.
- Confirm that your GPU and driver provide Vulkan.
- Keep at least 2 GB free, preferably more for updates and shader data.
- Have internet access for Steam, the game download, updates and online functions.
- Use a controller if you want gamepad play; keyboard controls remain an option.
Install Steam on Ubuntu
Canonical’s current documentation presents Steam as a snap. You can install it graphically or from a terminal.
Option 1: Ubuntu App Center
- Press the Super key and search for App Center.
- Open App Center and search for Steam.
- Select Steam and click Install.
- Enter your Ubuntu password if prompted.
- Open Steam from the applications menu, then sign in or create a Steam account.

Option 2: Terminal
Run:
sudo snap install steam
After installation, start Steam from the application menu. If necessary, launch it with:
snap run steam
The command and the App Center route are documented by Ubuntu at documentation.ubuntu.com/steam/howto/install/.

Optional snap connections
Most required snap connections are connected automatically. If hardware detection or other compatibility features misbehave, Ubuntu recommends:
sudo snap connect steam:system-observe
sudo snap connect steam:hardware-observe
sudo snap connect steam:audio-record
The first two are the most relevant to general game compatibility. The audio-record connection is mainly relevant to Steam voice chat or recording.
Buy and download the game through Steam
- Open Steam and search for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.
- Check that you are on the official product page before buying or redeeming a key.
- Purchase the base game, redeem a legitimate Steam key, or select Install if it is already in your account.
- Open Library and select the game.
- Click Install, choose a Steam Library location and confirm the required space.
- Let Steam download and verify the files, then click Play.
The Steam page lists single-player, online co-op, shared or split-screen co-op, Steam Cloud, Remote Play Together and controller-related features. Whether a particular feature works in your session can depend on the edition, account, network and current game support.

When checked on August 16, 2026, the US listing showed the base game at $24.99, Dimension Shellshock at $7.99, Radical Reptiles at $3.99, an Ultimate Edition bundle at $32.90 with an 11% discount, and a Soundtrack Edition at $38.40 with a 15% discount. Prices, discounts and regional pricing change, so verify the current total on Steam before purchasing.
Should you enable Proton?
Not initially. Because the Steam listing provides SteamOS + Linux requirements, test the normal launch first. Ubuntu explains that Proton runs Windows games through Steam Play; a game that installs and runs without Proton is native and will generally be best left that way.
If the native launch fails, try Proton Experimental as a fallback:
- Open Steam and go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play.
- Enable Steam Play for supported titles if required. Enable Steam Play for all other titles only when necessary.
- For this game, right-click it in Library and choose Properties > Compatibility.
- Check Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool.
- Select Proton Experimental, close the dialog and launch the game.
These controls are described in Ubuntu’s Proton configuration guide. Proton adds a compatibility layer and can change controller behavior, video output, save locations, performance and disk usage; a successful Proton launch does not mean Proton is required.

Fix launch and installation problems
The game does not appear Linux-compatible
- Restart Steam and allow any client update to finish.
- Confirm that you installed the official Steam product rather than an unrelated bundle or edition.
- Open the game’s Properties > Compatibility page and remove any forced Proton selection.
- Retry the default launch. If it still fails, test Proton Experimental.
The game installs but will not start
- Restart Steam, then restart Ubuntu if you recently changed drivers or Steam.
- Use the game’s Properties menu to verify the installed files.
- Update Ubuntu and your graphics driver, and confirm Vulkan support.
- Connect the Steam snap’s
hardware-observeandsystem-observeinterfaces if they are not connected. - Move the game to the default internal Steam Library rather than an external or secondary drive.
- If you use both integrated and dedicated graphics, test the other GPU.
- Try Proton Experimental only after these basic checks.

Capture a launch log
For a diagnostic log, open the game’s Properties > General page and add this to Launch Options:
%command% > $HOME/game_log 2>&1
With the Steam snap, Ubuntu documents the resulting file as:
/home/$USER/snap/steam/common/game_log
Remove the launch option after collecting the log so it does not redirect every future launch. The logging procedure is documented at ubuntu.com/docs/steam/howto/troubleshooting/.

Steam itself freezes
Try the less disruptive command first:
snap run steam -vgui
If Steam remains broken, Ubuntu also documents:
snap run steam --reset
Use --reset cautiously because it can alter Steam’s local configuration.
A library on another drive fails
Snap confinement and removable-drive permissions can interfere with secondary libraries. Move the game to Steam’s default internal storage and retry before changing more settings.
Steam or Epic Games Store?
Steam: the practical Ubuntu choice
- The product page explicitly lists SteamOS + Linux requirements.
- Ubuntu has a documented Steam snap installation path.
- Steam supplies updates, cloud saves, controller configuration and its normal multiplayer infrastructure.
- You avoid configuring a separate launcher, Wine setup or custom compatibility tools.
The trade-offs are a Steam account, a separate game purchase and possible snap-confinement issues with external storage or peripherals.
Epic Games Store: mainly for existing owners
The game also has an official Epic Games Store listing. That page does not establish a native Ubuntu build or an equally direct Ubuntu installation route. If you already own the Epic edition, a third-party launcher such as Heroic plus Wine or Proton may be possible, but it adds another account, update path and troubleshooting layer. It is not the simplest recommendation for a new Ubuntu user.

A torrent, repack or copied executable is not an official Ubuntu installation method. Such downloads can be illegal, contain malware, lack Steam updates and services, break multiplayer or cloud saves, and leave you without reliable support. Use the official Steam purchase or a legitimate key redeemed in Steam instead.
