How to Download and Install the Logitech G29 Driver for Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11

The Logitech G29 usually does not need a standalone driver. Use official G HUB on Windows 10/11, while Windows 7/8/8.1 require the historically supported LGS path—with important compatibility and security caveats.

Short answer: you usually do not need a separate Logitech G29 driver. On current Windows PCs, install Logitech G HUB. Windows may detect the G29 as a basic game controller by itself, but G HUB provides the configuration layer needed for wheel range, profiles, sensitivity, force feedback, and firmware management.

For Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1, Logitech’s historical documentation points to Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) 8.70 or later. However, Logitech’s current software pages clearly list G HUB and the current LGS package for Windows 10 and Windows 11—not as a maintained Windows 7/8 download path. Do not replace the official software with a third-party driver pack.

This guide covers the correct download, the G29’s PC mode, installation, Windows testing, game configuration, force-feedback and pedal problems, legacy Windows limitations, and safe G HUB recovery steps.

Choose the correct Logitech software first

Logitech’s G29 product download page can show There are no Downloads for this Product. That does not mean the wheel has no Windows support or that you should search for a replacement driver on a driver-portal website. Logitech’s own support instructions direct PC users to Logitech Gaming Software or G HUB for the G29’s full functionality.

Windows version Recommended software What the recommendation really means
Windows 11 Current Logitech G HUB This is Logitech’s current Windows path. The current listing names Windows 10 and Windows 11 and includes G29 firmware support.
Windows 10 Current Logitech G HUB Use G HUB by default. Logitech also lists legacy LGS for Windows 10/11, but it should not be the first choice when G HUB is available.
Windows 8.1 Historical route: LGS 8.70 or later Logitech’s older compatibility documentation names LGS 8.70 or later, but current Logitech pages do not provide a clearly maintained Windows 8.1 package.
Windows 8 Historical route: LGS 8.70 or later Do not assume that the current G HUB installer supports Windows 8. Logitech’s current G HUB listing names Windows 10 and 11 only.
Windows 7 Historical route: LGS 8.70 or later A compatible, authentic legacy installer may work, but Logitech does not present Windows 7 as a current G HUB download target.

Logitech’s historical G29 compatibility page lists Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and Vista as supported at the time of release. That is not the same as current software support. The G29 may still work on an old operating system, but the operating system itself is no longer supported by Microsoft: Windows 7 support ended on January 14, 2020; Windows 8 on January 12, 2016; Windows 8.1 on January 10, 2023; and Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. See Microsoft’s Windows end-of-support information and its Windows 10 support notice.

G HUB version numbers change

Use Logitech’s live G HUB page rather than searching for a fixed version number. Logitech’s regional pages and release notes can show different versions as the software is updated. For example, Logitech support material records G HUB 2026.1.828335 as a Windows release dated February 3, 2026, while its release notes identify version 2026.2.861820 dated April 13, 2026. These dated examples are not a permanent “latest version” claim.

The same caution applies to LGS. One current regional Logitech page lists LGS 9.04.49, a 64-bit, 123 MB package last updated May 25, 2022, while another regional page shows 9.04.28. LGS is legacy Logitech Gaming Software, not a dedicated G29 driver, and the regional difference is another reason to use the live official page rather than hard-code a download version.

Prepare the G29 before installing

Most installation failures are not caused by a missing driver. The G29 must be powered, connected in the correct platform mode, and connected in a way that lets Windows enumerate it cleanly.

  1. Attach the pedal assembly to the connector on the underside of the wheel base.
  2. Connect the supplied AC power adapter directly to a working wall outlet. Do not use an unpowered USB hub or assume USB power alone is enough.
  3. Set the platform switch to PS4 before connecting the G29 to a Windows PC. Logitech identifies the PS4 switch position as the G29’s PC mode.
  4. Connect the wheel’s USB cable directly to the computer for the initial setup. A rear motherboard USB port is preferable to a hub or front-panel extension while troubleshooting.
  5. Keep the wheel clear. During initialization, it should rotate fully left and right and then return to center. Keep your hands away from the rim while this happens.

The switch can be confusing. On a PC, the G29 uses the PS4 position. The PS3 position can make the wheel identify as a Driving Force GT in supported games and disables some G29 accessories. If the wheel is powered but software cannot identify it correctly, check the switch before reinstalling anything. Logitech documents the mode and connection procedure in its G29 PC setup article.

Install G HUB on Windows 10 or Windows 11

Use this path for current Windows 10 and Windows 11 installations:

  1. Close racing games, Steam, Discord controller overlays, reWASD, DS4Windows, emulator software, and other controller-mapping tools. These programs can claim the wheel or change its inputs while you are installing it.
  2. Put the G29’s switch in the PS4 position.
  3. Connect the pedals and power adapter, then connect the USB cable directly to the PC.
  4. Download G HUB from Logitech’s official G HUB support page. Avoid “automatic driver updater” tools, copied ZIP files, and websites offering a special G29 driver.
  5. Run the installer. G HUB installs its application, services, and device components; it is more than a small standalone hardware-driver file.
  6. Restart Windows if the installer asks you to do so. If it does not, close and reopen G HUB after installation.
  7. Reconnect the G29 directly to the PC if you disconnected it during setup. Open G HUB and wait for the wheel to appear.
  8. If G HUB offers a firmware update specifically for the G29, follow the on-screen procedure. Keep the USB and power connections in place and do not turn off the PC during the update.
  9. Open the G29 in G HUB and confirm that the wheel controls, pedals, buttons, and operating-range settings are available.

Logitech’s release documentation includes G29 firmware support. One dated release record lists G29 firmware version 164.1.11 and describes improved PS5-mode authentication stability. Treat that as a dated release fact, not as a version that will always be the latest. The firmware version offered by G HUB is the one to follow for your installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What a successful installation looks like

  • The wheel completes its startup rotation when powered and connected.
  • The G29 appears in G HUB instead of remaining on an endless device-loading screen.
  • G HUB exposes wheel range and input controls rather than showing only a generic USB device.
  • Windows also lists the wheel in its Game Controllers panel.
  • Steering, pedals, buttons, and paddles produce input in the Windows test page.

Install the legacy software on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1

This is the point where many G29 download guides overstate compatibility. Logitech’s historical documentation says that Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 use LGS 8.70 or later for full G29 functionality. LGS provides the older configuration features for button assignments, wheel and pedal sensitivity, operating range, profiles, and force feedback.

However, Logitech’s current LGS download page lists current packages for Windows 10 and Windows 11, and the current G HUB page also names Windows 10 and Windows 11 only. Logitech’s G29 product page may show no downloads. Therefore:

  • Do not install the current G HUB package on Windows 7 or 8 and assume it is supported.
  • Do not assume the current LGS package is compatible with an unsupported older Windows release merely because it is called LGS.
  • If you already have an authentic Logitech LGS installer documented or known to be compatible with your system, the historical G29 route is LGS 8.70 or later.
  • If you do not have a trustworthy legacy installer, upgrading the PC to a supported Windows version is safer than downloading a copied installer or driver pack.

After installing a compatible legacy LGS package, open LGS and confirm that the G29 is listed. Test the wheel and pedals in Windows before launching a game. Installing both LGS and G HUB together should not be a routine fix; if both are present, they can compete for the same wheel software stack. Remove the unused package, restart Windows, and test one software path at a time unless Logitech support gives you a specific reason to keep both.

Verify the G29 in Windows with joy.cpl

Do this test before changing game files or repeatedly reinstalling software. It separates a Windows or hardware problem from a game-configuration problem.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type joy.cpl and press Enter.
  3. Select the G29 or Logitech racing-wheel entry. The exact device name can vary by software and Windows version.
  4. Click Properties.
  5. Open the Test tab.
  6. Turn the wheel and press every button. Move the accelerator, brake, and clutch pedals through their full travel.

Logitech documents this Game Controllers test page for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. The same legacy Control Panel utility is often available on Windows 11, although the surrounding menu wording may differ. The official instructions are in Logitech’s Windows Game Controllers test guide.

Interpret the result

Result in joy.cpl What it tells you Next step
Wheel, pedals, and buttons all move correctly Windows is receiving the hardware inputs. Configure the racing game, reset its controller profile if necessary, and investigate Steam Input or other mapping software.
Wheel appears but an axis is stuck, reversed, or off-center The device is enumerating, but calibration or stored settings may be wrong. Check G HUB or LGS settings, then test the game with a newly created controller profile.
Wheel rotates at startup but does not appear Power is reaching the motor, but USB enumeration, mode selection, or software may be failing. Check the PS4 switch, reconnect directly, try another USB port, restart G HUB, and test another computer.
No startup rotation and no Windows entry Power, adapter, USB connection, or hardware is more likely than a game setting. Test the wall outlet and cables, bypass hubs, try another USB port, and test the G29 on another PC if possible.
Wheel appears but pedals do not respond The pedal connection, axis mapping, or pedal hardware may be at fault. Reconnect the pedal cable at the wheel base and test each pedal in joy.cpl.

Configure the G29 inside the racing game

Windows detection does not guarantee that a particular game supports the G29 or its force feedback. The game must support steering wheels and force feedback, and many titles do not automatically assign every control.

  1. Open the game’s controller, wheel, or input settings.
  2. Select a wheel or custom controller profile rather than a gamepad profile where the game offers that choice.
  3. Map steering by turning the wheel when prompted.
  4. Map throttle, brake, and clutch individually. Watch the axis indicators while pressing each pedal.
  5. Map paddles and the buttons you intend to use.
  6. Check whether the game has inverted the brake or accelerator. A pedal that reads full input at rest is usually inverted or incorrectly mapped.
  7. Set the game’s steering range consistently with the Logitech software profile. The G29 supports an operating range of up to 900 degrees, but the appropriate range depends on the game and vehicle.
  8. Enable force feedback in the game and confirm that the game recognizes the wheel as a force-feedback device.

If the controls work in joy.cpl but not in the game, reinstalling the driver is unlikely to help. Delete or reset the game’s controller configuration, create a fresh wheel profile, and check for Steam controller-input conflicts. Steam’s controller layer can interfere with a wheel that works normally in Windows; inspect the title’s controller settings and temporarily change or disable Steam Input where the title provides that option. Menu labels vary by Steam and game version.

For calibration-specific problems, use Logitech’s controller calibration troubleshooting. Test the device in Windows first so that you know whether the error is present before the game receives the input.

Fix common Logitech G29 problems

The G29 does not rotate during startup

  1. Verify that the supplied power adapter is connected to the wheel and directly to a working wall outlet.
  2. Check the pedal and USB connections.
  3. Set the platform switch to PS4 before reconnecting the USB cable.
  4. Try another USB port without a hub.
  5. Inspect the cables for damage.
  6. Test the wheel on another computer if available.

If there is still no startup rotation on another computer with a known-good outlet and cable arrangement, the problem may be hardware-related rather than a Windows driver problem.

The wheel rotates but G HUB does not show it

Rotation proves that the wheel has power, not that Windows has successfully enumerated its USB interface. Close G HUB, unplug the USB cable, confirm the PS4 switch, reconnect directly, and relaunch G HUB. Then run joy.cpl. If Windows lists the wheel but G HUB does not, repair or reinstall G HUB. If neither Windows nor G HUB lists it, continue with USB-port, cable, mode-switch, and another-computer tests.

The pedals do not work

First check the pedal connector at the underside of the wheel base. Disconnect and firmly reconnect the pedal cable, then test the pedals in joy.cpl. Logitech has a dedicated G29 and G920 pedal troubleshooting guide.

If the pedals move in Windows but not in the game, map them manually and check for inverted axes. If they do not move in Windows either, do not start by editing the game’s files; troubleshoot the pedal connection, software, and hardware.

There is no force feedback

Force feedback requires more than basic Windows input. Confirm that G HUB or the compatible legacy LGS path is installed, that the game supports force feedback, and that steering and force feedback are enabled in the game. Check the Logitech profile settings where applicable, then recreate the game’s wheel profile if necessary.

A wheel can steer correctly in joy.cpl while having no force feedback in a game because the game does not support FFB, has selected the wrong controller type, has disabled FFB, or is being intercepted by a controller-mapping layer. Logitech’s G29 force-feedback troubleshooting covers the software and game checks.

The wheel is off-center

Test its center in Windows first. If the axis is off-center in joy.cpl, inspect the Logitech software and connection state. If Windows reports a sensible center but the game does not, reset the game’s stored controller configuration and calibrate the wheel from the game’s own wheel settings. Avoid treating every off-center symptom as a missing driver.

G HUB is stuck loading or will not install

Advanced USB and registry checks

Device Manager is useful when the wheel is not enumerating or Windows reports an error, but it is not the normal way to install the G29. Do not force an unrelated driver, use an automatic driver updater, or delete registry keys just because a game does not detect the wheel.

In PC mode, Logitech identifies the G29 USB hardware as VID_046D&PID_C24F. For advanced troubleshooting, Logitech identifies this registry location:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM\VID_046D&PID_C24F

Only inspect this path when following a documented Logitech troubleshooting procedure. Export or otherwise back up the relevant key before changing it, and do not delete it as a routine installation step. An incorrect registry change can affect controller detection beyond the G29.

What not to download

  • Do not download a “Logitech G29 driver” from a third-party driver portal when Logitech provides the official G HUB or LGS path.
  • Do not use driver-updater utilities that promise to scan and repair the wheel automatically.
  • Do not install copied ZIP packages, modified installers, or architecture-specific files whose authenticity you cannot verify.
  • Do not disable Windows security features such as Memory Integrity simply to force old LGS software to install. On Windows 10/11, use the current G HUB route where possible; on older Windows, treat legacy software as a compatibility limitation and consider upgrading.
  • Do not install G HUB and LGS together as a general troubleshooting measure.

Quick diagnosis checklist

  1. Is the power adapter connected directly to a working outlet?
  2. Are the pedals connected to the wheel base?
  3. Is the platform switch set to PS4 before USB connection?
  4. Is the USB cable connected directly to the PC?
  5. Does the wheel perform its startup rotation?
  6. Does the device appear in G HUB or the compatible LGS installation?
  7. Does it appear after Win + R, joy.cpl, Enter?
  8. Do the steering, pedals, and buttons move on the Test tab?
  9. Is the problem limited to one game or Steam?
  10. Is force feedback enabled and supported by that game?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a Logitech G29 driver for Windows 11?

There is not usually a separate driver download to hunt for. Install Logitech G HUB, which is Logitech’s current Windows 10/11 software path and provides G29 configuration and firmware support.

Does the Logitech G29 work on Windows 10?

Logitech lists G HUB for Windows 10, so the current software path is G HUB. However, Microsoft ended standard Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Hardware and application compatibility does not make the operating system secure or currently supported.

Does the G29 work on Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1?

Logitech’s historical documentation lists those systems and specifies LGS 8.70 or later for full functionality. Current Logitech pages do not provide the same clearly maintained Windows 7/8 download path, and those Windows releases are end-of-support. Use an authentic compatible legacy installer only if you already have one, or upgrade Windows.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I install Logitech G HUB or Logitech Gaming Software?

Use G HUB by default on Windows 10 or 11. LGS is the historical compatibility path for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, but current LGS listings target Windows 10 and 11 and the software is legacy. Do not routinely install both.

Why does the G29 rotate but not appear in Windows?

Startup rotation confirms power but not successful USB detection. Check that the switch is in PS4 mode, reconnect the wheel directly to another USB port, restart G HUB, and test with joy.cpl. If it remains absent on another PC, investigate the cable, adapter, or hardware.

Why do my G29 pedals not work?

Reconnect the pedal cable at the underside of the wheel base, then test the pedals in joy.cpl. If Windows sees them but the game does not, manually map the throttle, brake, and clutch and check for inverted axes.

Why is there no force feedback on the G29?

Verify that G HUB or compatible LGS is installed, the game supports force feedback, and FFB is enabled in the game and Logitech profile. Also check for Steam Input or another controller-mapping conflict. Basic steering input can work even when force feedback is not configured.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What does the PS4/PS3 switch do on the G29?

For PC use, set the switch to PS4 before connecting the wheel. The PS3 position can make it appear as a Driving Force GT in supported games and disables some G29 accessories.

Can I use the G29 without Logitech software?

Windows may detect basic controller input without the Logitech application, but that does not provide the full configuration layer. G HUB or compatible LGS is needed for features such as profiles, operating range, sensitivity, force-feedback configuration, and firmware management.

Should I download a G29 driver from a third-party website?

No. Use Logitech’s official G HUB page or an authentic Logitech legacy LGS installer. Driver portals, automatic driver tools, copied ZIP files, and “auto-fix” packages are not substitutes for Logitech’s software and create unnecessary authenticity and malware risks.

How do I calibrate the Logitech G29?

First test the wheel and pedals with Win + R, joy.cpl, and the Game Controllers Test tab. If Windows is correct but the game is not, reset and recalibrate the wheel in the game. For persistent calibration problems, follow Logitech’s calibration troubleshooting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I install LGS and G HUB together?

It is not recommended as a routine setup. They may compete for the same wheel software stack. Remove the unused package, restart Windows, and test G HUB or LGS separately unless a specific Logitech troubleshooting procedure requires otherwise.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: use Logitech G HUB from the official support page for Windows 10 and Windows 11, set the G29’s switch to PS4, connect its power, pedals, and USB cable directly, and verify every axis in joy.cpl before configuring a game. Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 are legacy cases: Logitech’s historical route is LGS 8.70 or later, but there is no clearly maintained current installer path, so avoid third-party driver sites and consider upgrading the operating system.
