For most players, the simplest way to install RLCraft on Windows 10 or a supported Mac is through the CurseForge app: find the RLCraft project by Shivaxi, install its modpack profile, and launch it from CurseForge. The project page lists RLCraft 1.12.2 v2.9.3, released June 27, 2023; the current supported route is the app, not a manual setup recipe.
Before you install RLCraft
- You need Minecraft: Java Edition. CurseForge lists Java Edition support for Windows and Mac.
- CurseForge lists its app as supported on Windows 10 and 11 and macOS 12 or later. That is the app’s operating-system support, not a guarantee that every computer meeting it can run RLCraft.
- The CurseForge project listing identifies the pack’s author as Shivaxi and lists RLCraft 1.12.2 v2.9.3, dated June 27, 2023. The project page does not establish a newer release.

Install RLCraft with the CurseForge app
CurseForge’s project page recommends the app as the easiest installation method. It creates and manages the modpack profile and its loader, reducing the chance of mismatched game versions or configuration. Menu wording can change, but the basic flow is:
- Install and open CurseForge. Get the app from the official CurseForge app download page.
- Open Minecraft in the app. Link your Minecraft game when prompted. CurseForge’s support page describes its app setup and Minecraft Java support.
- Find the pack. Go to Browse Modpacks, search for RLCraft, and verify that the project author is Shivaxi.
- Install the profile. Use the project’s install option and let CurseForge finish setting up the instance. Do not add unrelated mods during this step.
- Launch RLCraft from its CurseForge profile. Use that profile rather than launching an unmodified Minecraft installation if you want to play the modpack.
These steps apply to Windows 10 and to Macs running macOS 12 or later, provided Minecraft Java Edition is available in the app. The reviewed official sources do not provide a separate current Mac manual-install procedure, so use the app route on Mac rather than adapting an old Windows-only guide.

How much RAM should you allocate?
Shivaxi’s project page recommends allocating 3–4 GB of RAM for manual installation and says Minecraft’s default 1 GB allocation is not enough for the pack. Treat 3–4 GB as the project author’s guidance, not a tested minimum or a promise of smooth performance on every system. Leave memory available for the operating system and other running applications rather than assigning all installed RAM to Minecraft.
Should you install RLCraft manually?
Manual installation is intended for advanced users who want direct control over the Forge profile, files, game directory, and JVM memory settings. The project page points to Forge for Minecraft 1.12.2 and identifies the packaged version as Forge 1.12.2-14.23.5.2860. Follow the project’s latest file and installation notes rather than assuming any Forge version will work.

The RLCraft Wiki installation page describes a Windows-only legacy procedure: install Forge as a client, extract the RLCraft Server Pack into a separate game directory, create a launcher installation using the Forge 1.12.2 profile, point it at that directory, and adjust JVM memory arguments. The wiki page warns that it may be outdated and was last updated for v2.8.2, while the CurseForge listing names v2.9.3. A server pack is not the standard client installer; check the current project files and instructions before attempting that legacy method. The app installation avoids this extra matching and directory setup for most players.

Common setup problems to avoid
- Installing the wrong result: Confirm the project author is Shivaxi before installing, since a search can return other packs or related files.
- Launching vanilla Minecraft: Start the game from the RLCraft profile in CurseForge so the modpack instance is used.
- Mixing instructions for different versions: The wiki’s detailed manual steps refer to v2.8.2; the CurseForge page lists v2.9.3. Do not assume those steps or files match without checking.
- Expecting the OS listing to prove performance: CurseForge’s support for Windows 10/11 and macOS 12+ confirms app compatibility, not that a particular computer meets RLCraft’s performance needs. The cited sources do not state minimum CPU, graphics, or system-memory requirements.
