You cannot download Discord as a standalone app on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. Discord is integrated into the Xbox experience. Link your Discord and Microsoft accounts, update your console, then join Discord voice channels through the Xbox Guide. You still need the official Discord and Xbox mobile apps if you want to transfer a call from your phone or computer.
This integration is primarily for voice chat, activity visibility, and streaming—not the complete Discord desktop or mobile application.

What you need
- An Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.
- The latest Xbox system update available when you follow these steps.
- A Discord account.
- The Microsoft/Xbox account used on your console.
- The official Xbox mobile app for transferring Discord Voice.
- The official Discord mobile app for phone-based transfers and desktop QR-code transfers.
Discord Voice is supported on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Xbox 360 is not covered by the current documented integration. Xbox Wire confirms availability on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Link Discord and Xbox from the console
- Sign in to Xbox with the Microsoft account you want to use.
- Press the Xbox button to open the Guide.
- Go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Linked social accounts.
- Under Not linked, select the Discord tile.
- Select Link and follow the authorization prompts.
Menu wording can vary slightly after Xbox system updates. These are the current paths documented in Discord’s Xbox Connection FAQ.

Link Xbox from Discord
You can also start the connection in Discord using the desktop app or Discord in a browser:
- Open Discord and select User Settings using the gear icon.
- Select Connections.
- Select the Xbox icon.
- Choose Continue or Getting Started, depending on the screen shown.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox.
- Review the permissions and select Authorize and Continue.
One Discord account supports one linked Xbox account at a time. If the accounts were connected previously but Discord Voice is unavailable, disconnecting and reconnecting them may be necessary.
Join Discord voice chat directly on Xbox
- Sign in to Xbox with the linked Microsoft account.
- Press the Xbox button.
- Open Parties & chats.
- Select Discord Voice.
- Choose a Discord server.
- Select the voice channel you want to join.
The Xbox Guide can show the connected voice chat, participants, and audio controls such as mute and deafen.

This is useful when you are already talking in Discord on mobile.
- Confirm that your Discord and Xbox accounts are linked.
- Install and sign in to the official Xbox mobile app.
- Open the Discord mobile app and join a voice channel.
- Swipe up to display the voice-channel audio controls.
- Select Join on Xbox.
- Choose your Xbox console.
- Select Transfer Audio.
The call should move to Xbox and appear under Parties & chats. You can continue managing mute and deafen controls from Discord mobile.

Transfer Discord voice chat from a computer
The desktop process still requires the mobile apps to complete the transfer:
- Install and sign in to both the Xbox mobile app and Discord mobile app.
- Join a voice channel in Discord on your computer.
- Select the phone-and-controller transfer icon near the voice controls, or right-click the voice channel.
- Select Transfer Voice to Xbox.
- Scan the displayed QR code with your phone.
- Complete the transfer in the Discord mobile app.
Installing only Discord on a PC is not enough for this official QR-code workflow.

Fix Discord if it does not appear or a transfer fails
- Update Xbox using the latest system update available.
- Check that the Discord connection uses the same Microsoft account signed in on the console.
- If the accounts were linked before, disconnect and relink them.
- Confirm that both mobile apps are installed and signed in.
- Restart the Xbox, Discord, and Xbox mobile apps.
- Try joining through Xbox button > Parties & chats > Discord Voice instead of transferring from a phone or PC.
- Check the Xbox privacy settings described below.
If Xbox says the console needs an update, update it before attempting another transfer. Reinstalling a Discord Xbox app will not help because there is no standalone Discord console client for this setup.
Check Xbox privacy settings
In the Xbox mobile-app privacy controls, Discord’s FAQ identifies these settings as relevant:
- Join cross-network play: Allow
- Communicate outside of Xbox with voice & text: Everybody
Restrictions such as In-game friends or Blocked can prevent outside communication. Family and child-account settings may override these options, so changing them does not bypass parental controls.

Important Xbox and Discord limitations
Discord Voice and Xbox Party Chat cannot run together
After Discord Voice is transferred to Xbox, you cannot remain in Xbox Party Chat at the same time. Leave the Xbox party before joining the Discord voice channel.

Xbox integration does not give you the complete Discord experience. For text channels, server administration, moderation, screen sharing, and broader Discord browsing, continue using Discord on your phone or computer.

Xbox also supports streaming gameplay to a Discord voice channel:
- Link your Discord and Xbox accounts.
- Open the Xbox Guide.
- Go to Parties & chats > Discord.
- Select a Discord server and voice channel.
- Choose Stream your game.
- Adjust the available settings and select Start stream.
Xbox One does not support the 60 FPS streaming option. Discord Nitro may provide additional resolution or frame-rate choices, but benefits can vary by account, region, subscription, and current policy. Nitro is not required for account linking or ordinary Discord voice chat.
According to Discord’s FAQ, Xbox can also watch Discord streams at 480p, 720p, 1080p, and 1440p. Open the active call’s member list in the Xbox Guide, select a person who is streaming, and choose Watch Stream. Streaming is limited to games; do not assume that other Xbox apps or services can be broadcast to Discord.

Is Discord free on Xbox?
Basic Discord account linking and Discord voice chat on Xbox do not require a paid subscription or Game Pass. Discord Nitro is optional and may add enhanced streaming options and other Discord benefits.
Is there a Discord app in the Xbox Store?
Discord’s current Xbox setup is not based on installing a standalone Discord console app. Use the built-in integration by linking accounts.
Do I need the Discord app on my phone?
You need Discord mobile for the phone transfer method and to complete the official desktop QR-code transfer. You can join directly through the Xbox Guide after linking accounts.
Can I use Xbox Party Chat and Discord at the same time?
No. Discord Voice and Xbox Party Chat cannot be used simultaneously after Discord Voice is transferred to the console.
Why does Discord say my Xbox needs an update?
Update the console to the latest available Xbox system version, restart it, and try the transfer again.
Can I stream Xbox gameplay to Discord?
Yes. Use the Discord option under Xbox Parties & chats. Xbox One does not offer the 60 FPS streaming option.
