Ryujinx does not sell or host Nintendo Switch games. To use it legitimately, purchase a game through Nintendo eShop or Nintendo’s website, then use a compatible Switch to create the local game dump, keys, and firmware that the emulator requires. Buying a game alone does not automatically place an emulator-ready file on your computer.
What “download games on Ryujinx” actually means
Ryujinx is an emulator, not a storefront. It cannot provide a Nintendo Switch game download, unlock a purchased title, or supply Nintendo firmware and encryption keys.
Nintendo identifies the eShop and its own website as legitimate online purchase channels for Switch games. After buying a title, you still need to create a local dump from hardware and software you lawfully possess. Ryujinx documentation describes this process at a high level using a compatible Switch capable of custom firmware.
Do not use websites offering “free ROMs,” leaked keys, firmware packages, or preconfigured game downloads. Nintendo characterizes unauthorized downloading and distribution as piracy. The rules around personal copying, circumvention and emulation vary by jurisdiction, so local law may impose additional limits.

Legitimate path from purchase to Ryujinx
1. Buy the game through an authorized channel
Purchase the digital or physical Switch release through Nintendo eShop or Nintendo’s website for your region. A retail purchase gives you the right to use the game under the applicable terms; it does not by itself create an XCI, NSP or other Ryujinx-ready file on a PC.
2. Use a compatible Switch for your own dump
Ryujinx’s documentation describes dumping a legally purchased commercial game, console keys and firmware from a compatible Switch. The exact tools and procedure depend on the console, firmware version and applicable law. Keep the resulting files private and do not download or distribute copies made by someone else.

3. Install Ryujinx only from a source whose provenance you can verify
Current pages using the Ryujinx name advertise stable and canary builds, but their connection to the historic project has not been independently established here. Treat claims on those pages as claims by the pages themselves, verify ownership and release provenance, and scan downloads before running them. Do not assume that a page is official merely because it uses the project name.
4. Add your game directory
In Ryujinx, open the settings area and add the folder containing your locally dumped games to the game-directory list. The emulator then scans supported files in that location. A features page associated with a current Ryujinx-branded site claims support for NSP, XCI and NCA formats; verify that claim against the build you install rather than assuming every version handles every file.

5. Install compatible keys and firmware
Use the keys and firmware dumped from the same compatible setup, where permitted. The project FAQ warns that incompatible or outdated keys can cause firmware parsing errors. Firmware is not a replacement for a base game: it supplies system software, while the game dump supplies the title.
6. Configure controls
Ryujinx’s setup choices include Joy-Con, a standard gamepad, or keyboard and mouse. A controller is optional; it is not required to obtain a game or to make a dump.

Do not boot an update as the base game
The Ryujinx-hosted FAQ distinguishes a base game from an update file. Trying to launch an update package as though it were the main game can fail. Add the base-game dump first, then handle an update through the emulator’s normal content-management workflow.

- Slip a set of Joy-Con into a Joy-Con grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
Check the game directory
- Confirm that the folder you added is the one containing the dump, not an empty parent folder or an archive that the emulator cannot read.
- Allow the scan to finish before concluding that the title is missing.
- Keep your base game and update files identifiable so you do not select the wrong package.
Resolve firmware or key parsing errors
When firmware will not parse, check that the keys and firmware are compatible with one another and not obsolete for the build you are using. Obtain replacements only from your own lawful dump process; downloading keys or firmware from third parties is not a safe or authorized fix.
Hardware and feature limits to keep in mind
A current Ryujinx-branded download page lists Windows, macOS or Linux, 8 GB of RAM, a 64-bit processor and graphics support for OpenGL 4.5, Vulkan or Metal as minimum specifications. Those figures have not been independently confirmed against a verified official release, so treat them as that page’s stated requirements rather than a guarantee that every game will run.
Performance and compatibility depend on the title, emulator build, drivers and your hardware. Ryujinx documentation also says Nintendo Switch Online is not supported. Do not expect online functionality or universal game compatibility.
What you should not download
- Copyrighted Nintendo game files offered by ROM or torrent sites.
- Console keys or firmware copied from another person’s system.
- “Preconfigured” emulator bundles whose ownership and contents cannot be verified.
- Executables that claim to install games directly from Ryujinx without a dump from your own compatible Switch.
If you only want to play a Switch game and do not have a compatible console for a lawful dump, the straightforward authorized option is to play it on Nintendo hardware after purchasing it. Ryujinx cannot turn an eShop receipt into a PC game file.
