Unturned has no built-in autosave switch. To save the world automatically, install and load RocketMod, edit Rocket.Unturned.config.xml, set AutomaticSave Enabled="true", choose an interval in seconds, then restart the server.

The setting that actually enables autosave
Vanilla Unturned does not provide an autosave option in its standard server configuration. As the Flux server-settings guide puts it, “There is no autosave setting, because Unturned has no autosave.” The autosave control described for Unturned servers belongs to RocketMod, the .NET game-server plugin framework used to extend dedicated servers.

That reduces the amount of progress that can be lost when the process or machine stops unexpectedly, but it is still a server-side save operation rather than an off-site backup. A separate backup routine is needed if you also want copies that survive disk failure or an incorrect file edit.
What you need before changing the file
- A running Unturned dedicated server that has RocketMod installed and loaded.
- File access through your hosting control panel, FTP, SSH, or the local server directory.
- Permission to edit the RocketMod configuration and restart the server.
- The correct configuration for the specific server instance you intend to change, especially when one machine hosts several Unturned servers.
Host Havoc’s instructions state, “Before you start: Install RocketMod on your server first.” If RocketMod is not installed, the XML setting will not exist and adding a file manually will not make vanilla Unturned read it. Installation steps vary by provider and RocketMod distribution, so use the current instructions for your host or self-hosted setup before following the configuration steps below.

Where to find Rocket.Unturned.config.xml
RocketMod stores this setting in its own configuration directory, not in Unturned’s vanilla Config.txt. In Host Havoc’s example layout, the Rocket directory is:
Servers\UnturnedServerByHH\Rocket\
The server-name portion is provider-specific. A self-hosted installation may use a different instance name, drive, or parent directory. Managed panels may expose the same file through a Files, File Manager, or Config Files menu rather than showing the physical path.
If the Rocket directory or XML file is missing immediately after installation, start the server once with RocketMod enabled and allow it to finish loading. Current hosting guidance documents that first launch as the point at which RocketMod generates its directory and configuration files. Stop the server before editing if your panel warns that files can be overwritten while the process is running.
Enable automatic saving step by step
- Install and load RocketMod. Confirm that the framework is active for the Unturned server instance you are editing.
- Open the Rocket directory. Follow your provider’s file path or panel navigation. On Host Havoc’s documented layout, this is
Servers\UnturnedServerByHH\Rocket\. - Open
Rocket.Unturned.config.xml. Download a copy or duplicate the file before making changes so you can restore the previous version if the XML becomes invalid. - Find the automatic-save element. Add it if it is absent, or edit the existing element so it reads:
<AutomaticSave Enabled="true" Interval="300" />- Save the XML and restart the server. RocketMod reads the configuration when the server starts; a file edit alone does not apply the new value to an already-running process.
Keep the element as valid XML: use quotation marks around both attributes, close the element with />, and place it in the Rocket.Unturned configuration file rather than in Config.txt. Do not add a second competing AutomaticSave element if one already exists; edit the existing entry instead.

Choose the interval in seconds
The Interval value is measured in seconds, not minutes. These documented examples convert the most common choices:

To convert another desired period, multiply minutes by 60. For example, 15 minutes is 900 seconds. The examples above are configuration values, not measured performance or reliability results. A shorter interval generally limits the time since the last save, while a longer interval reduces how often the server performs the save operation; choose according to the activity and tolerance for lost progress on your own server.

Restart and verify that RocketMod loaded the change
Use the normal restart control for your setup after saving the XML. On a managed host, that is usually the server’s Restart button. On a self-hosted machine, stop the Unturned process cleanly and launch it again using the command or service definition you normally use.
After startup:
- Check the RocketMod startup log for configuration or XML parsing errors.
- Confirm that the server reaches its normal online state instead of stopping during startup.
- Reopen
Rocket.Unturned.config.xmlif necessary and make sure the saved value is stillEnabled="true"with the intended interval. - Keep the server running beyond one interval and watch for a normal save-related log entry if your host exposes RocketMod events.
A successful restart proves that the XML is syntactically acceptable, but it does not by itself prove that the expected save cadence has occurred. Verification should include at least one complete interval and a review of the server’s logs or world-file timestamps where those are available.

Troubleshoot the common failure cases
The XML file does not exist
Make sure RocketMod is installed for this particular server instance, then start the server once and let RocketMod generate its files. If the file still does not appear, check whether your panel puts plugin configuration under a separate Config Files area. Provider layouts differ, so the Host Havoc path should not be copied literally to an unrelated host.
The server starts, but autosave does not run
Recheck that the element is in Rocket.Unturned.config.xml, not Unturned’s vanilla configuration. Confirm that the attribute is exactly Enabled="true" and that Interval contains a number in seconds. Then restart again; RocketMod loads the value during startup.

An XML syntax error can prevent a plugin configuration from loading. Restore the backup copy, remove duplicate AutomaticSave entries, and verify that every opening element is correctly closed. If your host offers a configuration editor with validation, use it instead of pasting through a terminal or browser text box.
The panel changes or replaces the file
Some managed services generate configuration files from panel settings or reinstall plugin files during an update. Save your intended value, restart through the panel, and inspect the file again. If it reverts, follow the host’s current RocketMod configuration instructions or ask support where persistent plugin settings are stored. Pingperfect describes direct XML editing as an “Old Method,” which is a reminder that a provider may now prefer a panel control even when the XML route remains documented for RocketMod.

You edited the wrong server
When several Unturned instances share a host, each can have its own server-name directory and Rocket configuration. Match the folder to the instance’s service or startup entry before changing the file. Restart only that instance and verify its own logs.

What RocketMod autosave can and cannot do
This feature writes the current Unturned world state to the server disk at the interval you specify. It is intended to reduce progress lost after an unexpected crash. It does not add a setting to vanilla Unturned, and it does not make a server immune to corruption, hardware failure, or a bad configuration. Because the save remains on the same server storage, it is not an independent backup copy.
Autosave also does not remove the need for clean shutdowns when you are deliberately stopping or updating the server. Continue to use the normal stop procedure, announce planned maintenance to players, and keep a known-good copy of the configuration before changing it.

- RocketMod is installed and loaded on the intended Unturned instance.
- You opened that instance’s Rocket directory, not a different server’s folder.
