To enable a delegated person to manage a YouTube live stream, first make sure the channel is eligible, then invite them in YouTube Studio under Settings → Permissions and assign the Manager or Editor role. Viewers can monitor but cannot manage streams. An Editor cannot change permissions or reset a stream key; those actions require an Owner or Manager.
Check that the channel is eligible to live stream
Channel permissions do not bypass YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility rules. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. It also states that a person streaming must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Confirm the channel is verified.
- Check that it has no live-streaming restrictions in the last 90 days.
- Ensure the person who will stream meets YouTube’s stated minimum age.
If the live-streaming option is unavailable, resolve eligibility issues before changing a delegate’s role.
Invite a delegate in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio as the channel owner or another person with permission to manage access.
- Open Settings → Permissions.
- Choose the option to invite a user, enter the delegate’s email address, and select a role in the Access selector.
- Send the invitation. YouTube says an invitation expires after 30 days, so the delegate should accept it before then.
Use YouTube’s current guide, Add or remove access to your YouTube channel with channel permissions, if the Studio labels or invitation flow differ.

Choose the right YouTube role for live streaming
Assign the least-privileged role that covers the person’s actual work. In channel permissions, Managers and Editors can manage live streams; Viewers cannot.

Can an Editor go live on a YouTube channel?
Yes. An Editor can manage live streams, but cannot invite or remove channel delegates, enter contracts, or delete or reset stream keys. If those administrative tasks are part of the job, use an Owner or Manager instead. YouTube documents live stream settings in Manage live stream settings.

What role can reset a stream key?
An Owner or Manager can reset a stream key. An Editor cannot. Treat the key as a credential: share it only with people and streaming software that need it, and have an Owner or Manager handle a reset.
Have the delegate open Live Control Room
- The delegate signs in to YouTube Studio using the account invited by the owner.
- Use the channel selector to confirm the correct channel is active.
- Choose Create → Go live to open Live Control Room and manage the stream.
If YouTube requests verification or another eligibility action, the channel owner may need to complete it or adjust access. A delegated role does not override verification, restrictions, age requirements, or other account eligibility checks. Some actions may also be unavailable in delegated contexts.

If the channel uses Brand Account access
Legacy Brand Account roles use a different access model. YouTube directs channel owners to migrate to channel permissions for the current workflow. Follow YouTube’s Brand Account access migration guide, then confirm that the delegate has the appropriate channel-permissions role.
YouTube notes that channel permissions do not support some areas, including YouTube Music, YouTube Kids, and YouTube APIs. If the task depends on one of those areas, check the current permissions guidance before migrating or assigning a role.

Troubleshoot a missing live-stream control
- Live streaming is missing: Check channel verification and whether the channel had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- The delegate can view settings but cannot start or manage the stream: Confirm they are a Manager or Editor, not a Viewer or Viewer (Limited).
- The delegate must add another user: Assign Owner or Manager access; Editors cannot manage permissions.
- The delegate must reset a stream key: An Owner or Manager must do it.
- The channel still uses Brand Account access: Complete the migration to channel permissions and check the assigned role again.
- The role looks right but an action remains unavailable: Verify the active channel identity, assigned role, and channel eligibility in Studio. YouTube warns that some actions may not be available to delegates; its help does not enumerate every account-specific cause.
