To send a Discord Super Reaction, open the message’s emoji picker, select the Super Reaction icon, and choose an emoji. Sending requires Nitro, Nitro Basic, or Nitro Classic. To stop the animated effect on your own device, open User Settings > Accessibility and turn off Play animated emoji. That setting hides the animation for you; it does not delete the reaction or prevent other people from adding Super Reactions.
What Discord Super Reactions do
A Super Reaction is an animated emoji reaction attached to a Discord message. It uses the normal reaction workflow, but the emoji animates when displayed. The animation is a visual treatment of the reaction, not a separate message or chat post.

Discord separates the ability to send a Super Reaction from the ability to see one. The current Reactions and Super Reactions FAQ says Nitro, Nitro Basic, and Nitro Classic subscribers can send Super Reactions, with unlimited Super Reactions on those tiers. People who do not have Nitro can still see Super Reactions posted by others.

- Stop sending them: do not select the Super Reaction mode in the emoji picker. Discord does not provide a separate account switch that removes the feature from the picker for an eligible subscriber.
- Stop seeing the animation: turn off Play animated emoji in User Settings > Accessibility. The reaction remains attached to the message, but its animation is not played on your device.
Discord’s FAQ was published or updated on December 11, 2025. Client labels and the exact placement of controls can change in later desktop, browser, or mobile releases, but the functional paths below describe the documented controls.
Who can send and who can view Super Reactions?

A Nitro subscription affects sending, not visibility. If the Super Reaction icon is missing or unavailable when you open the picker, check the account’s Nitro status before changing accessibility settings. Accessibility controls do not grant permission to send.
How to send a Super Reaction
Use the message’s reaction controls. You can begin with the Add Reaction button or with the reaction menu associated with the message.
- Open the channel, direct message, or group conversation containing the message.
- Move to the message you want to react to and open its emoji picker. Choose Add Reaction or the equivalent reaction option in the message menu.
- In the emoji picker, select the Super Reaction icon in the upper-right corner. Discord indicates that Super Reaction mode is active with a blurple glow around the control.
- Choose the emoji you want to use.
- Wait for the selected emoji to appear in the message’s reaction row. It is now an animated Super Reaction rather than an ordinary static reaction.
The mode applies to the emoji you select after you activate the Super Reaction control. If you intended to send an ordinary reaction, reopen or use the picker with Super Reaction mode turned off before choosing the emoji.
If the Super Reaction button is unavailable
First verify that the account is subscribed to Nitro, Nitro Basic, or Nitro Classic. Discord’s documented requirement is account-based, so changing the server, channel, or message will not substitute for the required subscription.

- Confirm that you are signed in to the account with the eligible subscription rather than a second Discord account.
- Close and reopen the emoji picker after confirming the subscription, so the client can refresh the available controls.
- Try the reaction menu on another message. If the control is absent everywhere, the issue is more likely account eligibility or a client-state problem than a single message.
- If ordinary reactions work but Super Reaction mode remains unavailable, use Discord’s current support guidance for account or subscription troubleshooting; do not assume that the accessibility setting controls eligibility.
Super Reactions are still reactions, so normal message and server restrictions can affect where you can interact. A message that you cannot react to will not become reactable because you have Nitro.
How to turn off Discord Super Reaction animations
To stop the animated effect on your own screen, change Discord’s accessibility setting:

- Open User Settings.
- Select Accessibility.
- Scroll to Play animated emoji.
- Switch the toggle off.
This is the documented viewer-side control for Super Reaction animations. After it is off, Super Reactions can remain in the reaction list and other people can continue to send them, but Discord will not play the animation for you.
What turning the setting off does not do
- It does not remove existing Super Reactions from messages.
- It does not convert existing Super Reactions into ordinary reactions.
- It does not stop another member from sending a Super Reaction.
- It does not revoke Nitro or change whether your account is eligible to send one.
- It does not change what other viewers see on their own devices.
If you still see motion after switching the setting off, check that you changed the setting in the same Discord account and client where you are viewing the message. A setting change in one signed-in environment may not immediately explain behavior in another open client. Reopen the relevant message or restart the client if the interface has not refreshed, then verify that the toggle remains off.
How to remove your own Super Reaction
You can undo your own reaction without moderator permission. Use either of Discord’s documented methods.

Method 1: Select the reaction again
- Find the message containing your Super Reaction.
- Select the same emoji reaction in the reaction row.
- Your reaction is removed from that message.
The same selection method works when you want to remove an ordinary reaction. Selecting the emoji again acts as a toggle: present becomes removed.
Method 2: Remove yourself from View Reactions
- Open the message menu and choose View Reactions.
- Locate the emoji used for your Super Reaction.
- Find your username in the list of members who used that emoji.
- Select the X next to your username.
This approach is useful when the message has many reactions and the reaction row is difficult to select accurately. Removing the entry removes your reaction; it does not delete the message or affect other members’ reactions.
How a moderator removes someone else’s Super Reaction
A server administrator or moderator needs the Manage Messages permission to remove another member’s Super Reaction. Discord documents this moderation workflow for desktop and browser clients.
- Open the message that contains the unwanted Super Reaction on Discord desktop or in a web browser.
- Open the message menu and choose View Reactions.
- Select the emoji associated with the Super Reaction.
- Find the member whose reaction should be removed.
- Select the X beside that member’s username.
The permission is important: being a server owner, administrator, or moderator title by itself is not the operation described by Discord’s FAQ unless the account has Manage Messages. Removing another member’s reaction is also different from turning off animation; the former changes the message’s reaction data, while the latter changes only local display.
Mobile limitation
Discord’s FAQ says moderators cannot perform this removal workflow on mobile. If the X control or the member-removal action is not available in the mobile app, use Discord on desktop or in a browser with an account that has Manage Messages. A non-moderator can still remove their own reaction using the normal toggle method.

Sending, viewing, hiding, and removing: choose the right control
Use this decision path when the terminology is confusing:
- You want to add an animated reaction: open the emoji picker, activate the Super Reaction icon, and choose an emoji. A Nitro tier is required.
- You want to keep reactions but remove motion from your screen: turn off Play animated emoji under User Settings > Accessibility.
- You want your own reaction gone: select the same emoji again or remove your username in View Reactions.
- You moderate a server and need another member’s reaction gone: use View Reactions on desktop or browser with Manage Messages.
- You are a non-Nitro viewer: you can see Super Reactions, but the documented Nitro requirement applies to sending them.
These controls operate at different levels. The picker determines what you send, Accessibility determines how animation is displayed to you, and View Reactions determines which member entries remain on the message.

“I cannot find the Super Reaction icon.”
Check Nitro, Nitro Basic, or Nitro Classic eligibility first. The icon is documented as part of the emoji picker and appears in the picker’s upper-right area when Super Reaction mode is available. If the account qualifies but the icon is still absent, close the picker, reopen it, and test another message. This separates a temporary interface state from an account-wide availability issue.
“I turned off Play animated emoji, but the reaction is still there.”
That result is expected. The setting disables animation display; it does not remove the reaction. To remove your own reaction, select the same emoji again or use View Reactions and the X next to your username. To remove someone else’s reaction, a moderator must use the documented desktop or browser workflow with Manage Messages.

Yes. Discord states that everyone can see Super Reactions, including users without Nitro. Your account does not need a subscription to view the reaction. If you do not want to see its movement, turn off Play animated emoji in Accessibility.

“Can I stop another person from sending Super Reactions?”
The documented controls do not provide a viewer-side switch that blocks another person from sending a Super Reaction. Turning off Play animated emoji changes only your local display. If a reaction violates server rules, a moderator with Manage Messages can remove it from View Reactions on desktop or browser.
“Why can’t I remove someone else’s reaction on my phone?”
Discord’s FAQ specifically documents that moderator removal is unavailable on mobile. Use the desktop app or browser, and make sure the account has Manage Messages. Without that permission, you can remove only your own reaction.
“Does disabling animation remove the Super Reaction feature?”
No. The picker, subscription requirement, and reaction data remain unchanged. The toggle controls whether animated emoji—including Super Reaction animation—is played for you. It is an accessibility and presentation preference, not a feature-removal switch.
Practical examples
You want to react enthusiastically but not watch animations
Send the Super Reaction normally if your account has an eligible Nitro tier. Then turn off Play animated emoji under User Settings > Accessibility. Your reaction can remain on the message while animations are suppressed on your device.
You accidentally sent a Super Reaction
Return to the message and select the same emoji in the reaction row. If the row is crowded, open View Reactions and select the X next to your username. Either method removes your reaction without affecting other members’ entries.
A member asks a moderator to remove an unwanted animated reaction
On desktop or browser, a moderator with Manage Messages can open View Reactions and remove that member’s entry. The mobile app is not the documented platform for this moderation action, so switch clients if the control is missing.

The shortest answer is therefore: use the picker’s Super Reaction icon to enable sending, use Accessibility to disable animation, and use the reaction row or View Reactions to remove a reaction. Those are separate controls, so changing one does not silently change the others.
