To open Microsoft Edge’s Surf game, enter edge://surf in the address bar and press Enter. This works whether Edge is online or offline. For managed devices, administrators can enable or disable access with Microsoft’s Allow surf game policy; there is no documented consumer-facing Edge Settings switch named “Surf game.”
How to open Surf in Microsoft Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the address bar or press Ctrl+L on Windows.
- Enter
edge://surf. - Press Enter.
Microsoft originally introduced Surf as Edge’s offline-page game, but it is also available through the direct edge://surf address when you are connected to the internet. See Microsoft’s announcement of Surf in Edge Stable.

What you can change inside the game
Surf’s game settings menu changes how the game works, not whether the game is available. Depending on the current Edge version, it includes:
- Game modes: Endless, Time trials, and Zig zag.
- Controls and instructions.
- High-visibility mode.
- Reduced-speed mode.
- Statistics and an option to reset them.
Surf supports keyboard, mouse, touch, and controllers. Microsoft lists the current modes and features on its Edge Surf page.

Disable Surf
- Open Local Group Policy Editor.
- Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Edge.
- Open Allow surf game.
- Select Disabled.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Close and reopen Microsoft Edge.
After the policy is applied, users cannot launch Surf from the offline-page link or by navigating directly to edge://surf.

Enable Surf
- Return to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Edge > Allow surf game.
- Set the policy to Enabled or Not Configured.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Restart Microsoft Edge.
Microsoft documents that both Enabled and Not Configured allow users to play Surf. The policy does not use dynamic refresh, so restarting Edge is required after a change. Consult Microsoft’s current AllowSurfGame policy documentation for supported versions and management details.
Disable or enable Surf through the Windows Registry
Administrators can also configure the Windows policy directly in the Registry. Back up the relevant Registry data before making changes; incorrect edits can affect Windows or other applications.

Disable Surf in the Registry
Use this policy location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftEdge
Create or edit the following value:
| Value | Type | Data |
|---|---|---|
AllowSurfGame |
REG_DWORD |
0 |
Close and reopen Edge after applying the change. A value of 0 disables Surf on both the offline page and edge://surf.
Re-enable Surf in the Registry
Remove the AllowSurfGame policy value so the policy returns to Not Configured. Microsoft states that an unconfigured policy allows the game. Alternatively, configure the equivalent Group Policy as Enabled, then restart Edge.

Microsoft does not document a command-line switch for this setting. Its supported control methods are the browser policy, the Windows policy Registry value, and managed preferences for macOS and iOS.

After changing a managed preference, restart Edge if the management system or browser requires it. The policy documentation lists minimum supported versions of macOS 83 or later and iOS 146 or later.
Android support
The AllowSurfGame policy is not supported on Android. The documented policy support table covers Windows 83 or later, macOS 83 or later, and iOS 146 or later; Android is listed as unsupported.
Important policy limitations
- The policy identifier is
AllowSurfGame, and the Windows administrative template isMSEdge.admx. - The policy can be mandatory and is applied per profile.
- Microsoft states that it does not apply to a profile signed in with a Microsoft account.
- Policy changes require an Edge restart.
- Disabling the policy blocks both the offline-page link and direct navigation to
edge://surf.
What to do if Surf will not open
- Verify the address is exactly
edge://surf. - Restart Edge, especially after changing a policy.
- On a managed Windows device, check whether Allow surf game is set to Disabled.
- If you changed the Registry, confirm the value is under
SOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftEdgeand thatAllowSurfGameis set to0only when you intend to block the game. - On macOS or iOS, check whether device management has deployed
AllowSurfGamewith a false value. - On Android, do not expect this policy to work because Microsoft does not support it there.
There is no current Microsoft-documented Edge Flag for controlling Surf. If the game is unavailable on a managed device, the official place to investigate is the Allow surf game policy rather than an Edge Flags page.
