In Minecraft: Java Edition 1.20.5 and newer, get an invisible item frame by running this command in chat:
/give @s minecraft:item_frame[entity_data={id:"minecraft:item_frame",Invisible:1b}] 1
Place the frame, then put an item in it. The frame itself will be invisible while the displayed item remains visible.

Java Edition 1.20.5 and newer
Open in-game chat and enter:
/give @s minecraft:item_frame[entity_data={id:"minecraft:item_frame",Invisible:1b}] 1
Press Enter to receive the frame. It may look like a normal item frame in your inventory or hotbar; its invisibility takes effect after you place it.

#1 Best Overall
- Capture the excitement and adventurous play of Minecraft!
- Each 3.25-inch scale Minecraft action figure comes with an accessory to recreate favorite in-game moments!
- Each also includes 1 Redstone Building Piece -- fans can collect the figures and combine all 6 building pieces to build a working TNT Cannon (each sold separately, subject to availability).
- For even more ways to play and display, the pixelated character figures are posable with movable joints!
- The collectible figures make a great toy for video-game players and fans ages 6 years old and up, who will want them all! (Each sold separately, subject to availability.)
Invisible glow item frame
For an invisible glow item frame, use the matching glow-frame item and entity ID:
/give @s minecraft:glow_item_frame[entity_data={id:"minecraft:glow_item_frame",Invisible:1b}] 1
Like a regular invisible frame, the glow variant continues to hold and display an item after placement.
Requirements
- You must be playing Java Edition.
- Your world must allow commands, and you need the required command permissions.
- Enter the command in the in-game chat, including the leading
/.
In a single-player world, this generally means enabling cheats. On a server, you need sufficient operator permissions. Minecraft’s command guidance explains the permission requirements and command setup at Microsoft’s Minecraft command documentation.
Why older commands no longer work
You may still find this command in older guides:
/give @p minecraft:item_frame{EntityTag:{Invisible:1b}} 1
That is legacy Java syntax for versions through 1.20.4. Java Edition 1.20.5, released on April 23, 2024, replaced item-stack NBT data in commands with structured item components. As a result, the old EntityTag form can produce an “unknown or incomplete command” error in current Java versions.
Rank #2
- Minecraft fans can join Steve on a quest to save the Village from attack with this Village Raid action figures and accessories set!
- The collectible pack includes 3 Minecraft action figures and 3 accessories to recreate the action in real life for play or display!
- Steve, a Raid Captain and a Ravager are included in 3-inch scale with movable joints for action moves and posability!
- Storm into the story with accessories that include an iron sword, enchanted crossbow and ominous banner!
- The collectible Minecraft set makes a fun, themed toy for video-game players and fans ages 6 years old and up!
The current equivalent is minecraft:entity_data, and it must include id:"minecraft:item_frame". Leaving out the ID makes the component invalid.
What about Minecraft Bedrock Edition?
There is no verified standard vanilla Bedrock command equivalent to Java’s invisible-item-frame command. Online guides publish several Bedrock-style /give syntaxes, but current documentation does not verify them as a reliable vanilla solution, and sources disagree about whether the feature is available through Bedrock commands.
Do not assume that either of these Java-oriented or commonly repeated forms works in vanilla Bedrock:
/give @p item_frame{EntityTag:{Invisible:1b}}
/give @p item_frame 1 0 {"minecraft:entity_data":{"Invisible":true}}
They should not be presented as confirmed Bedrock commands.

Bedrock workaround: use a resource pack
A resource pack can make regular and glow item-frame textures transparent while leaving the frames functional. This is a visual workaround rather than a special invisible-frame item obtained through /give.
For example, the Invisible Item Frames Bedrock resource pack listing identifies a Bedrock .mcaddon release for version 26.30, updated July 7, 2026. Check the pack’s stated version compatibility before installing it, since Bedrock resource packs can require updates after game changes.
Bedrock worlds still require cheats and the appropriate operator commands permission for commands. Enabling cheats disables achievements in that world. On an existing world, permissions can be changed from the in-world pause menu using the player-permissions control, as described in Microsoft’s Bedrock command documentation.

“Unknown or incomplete command”
Check that you are using Java Edition 1.20.5 or newer and that the command uses square brackets with entity_data:
Rank #4
- The Minecraft Player Survival Pack provides everything a new player needs to get started
- Includes a workbench, wood pickaxe, wood sword, bed, chest and fully-articulated Steve action figure
- It's part of the Minecraft Series 1 collection and features detailed designs that are true to the game
- Begin your adventure with the Minecraft Player Survival Pack
- Collect all Series 1 Minecraft action figures!
/give @s minecraft:item_frame[entity_data={id:"minecraft:item_frame",Invisible:1b}] 1
On Java 1.20.4 or older, use the historical EntityTag command instead. Do not mix the two syntaxes.
The command works, but the frame is visible
Place the item frame before judging its appearance. The item in the inventory can look like an ordinary frame; invisibility applies to the placed entity.
The glow command fails
Make sure both identifiers use glow_item_frame. The item ID and the entity-data ID must match:

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
/give @s minecraft:glow_item_frame[entity_data={id:"minecraft:glow_item_frame",Invisible:1b}] 1
The command does not work in Bedrock
That is expected for unsupported or undocumented syntax. Bedrock does not have a verified vanilla equivalent based on the documented command behavior; use a compatible resource pack instead.
Quick Recap
Version guide
| Edition/version | Recommended approach |
|---|---|
| Java 1.20.5 and newer | Use minecraft:entity_data with the required entity id. |
| Java 1.20.4 and older | Use the legacy EntityTag command. |
| Bedrock Edition | No verified vanilla command; use a compatible resource pack for invisible textures. |
