QSSR is enabled per game, not through a universal PS5 setting. Update a supported game, then check its graphics or display options for the QSSR choice. Sony’s initial confirmed games are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei; its October 1, 2026 announcement says patches added QSSR as an additional graphics option for both.
How to enable QSSR on a standard PS5
- Update the game. On the PS5 home screen, highlight the game, press the options button, and select Check for Update. Install an available update when prompted. Sony says QSSR was added to its initial titles through game patches, so an older build may not show the option. See Sony’s PS5 game-update instructions.
- Open the game’s settings. In a confirmed supported title, look in its graphics or display options for QSSR. Sony describes QSSR as an additional graphics option, but has not published a universal menu path or the exact menu labels for both games. This is a practical place to look, not a system-wide Sony-documented sequence.
- Confirm support for that specific title. Check its official patch notes or developer/publisher announcement. A current game patch or a graphics menu by itself does not establish QSSR support.
If the PS5 needs a system software update, the manual route is Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software. This is separate from updating the game; Sony says the initial QSSR games received patches. See Sony’s system software instructions.

This is the initial list Sony announced on October 1, 2026, not a claim that only these games will ever support QSSR. Sony says it will offer QSSR broadly to PlayStation developers, but its announcement gives no additional-title schedule or maintained compatibility list. QSSR is not the PS5 Pro PSSR system toggle
Sony’s support page documents an Enhance PSSR Image Quality setting for certain PSSR-compatible games. That control is available only on consoles in the CFI-7000 model group. QSSR, by contrast, is described as a graphics option added by patches to supported games on PS5. The PSSR system setting is not the QSSR switch. See Sony’s PS5 resolution guide.

What QSSR does—and what Sony has not measured
QSSR stands for Quick Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as a new performance tier of AI upscaling, developed from Project Amethyst, its AI graphics collaboration with AMD. Sony says its design uses a streamlined neural-network architecture and a hand-tuned implementation intended to maximize performance on PS5, and that it can improve image detail and stability. The announcement provides no resolution, frame-rate, or comparative benchmark figures, so those qualitative statements should not be read as measured performance results.
Insomniac Games Head of Technology Mike Fitzgerald described QSSR as adding “more pixel-level clarity and stability” to environments in Marvel’s Wolverine. Sucker Punch Productions Lead Rendering Engineer Jasmin Patry said QSSR would let Ghost of Yōtei players experience the game’s world with “even more clarity and detail.” These are the developers’ descriptions, not independent measurements.
