If you’re playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 or Warzone on PC, Activision requires both Secure Boot and TPM 2.0. Check their status in Windows before changing firmware settings; you may already meet the requirements. The rules are game-specific and do not apply to console players.

Which Call of Duty games require Secure Boot and TPM 2.0?

Activision’s support guidance, updated September 16, 2026, lists both features as requirements for Black Ops 7 and Warzone on PC. It also requires them for online play in the Modern Warfare 4 Beta. The consequences differ by game: Black Ops 7 and Warzone players who do not meet the requirements may be restricted from some modes and playlists, including Ranked Play, or placed in separate matchmaking pools. Players who do not meet the requirements cannot access online modes in the Modern Warfare 4 Beta.

These are PC requirements, not a universal rule for every Call of Duty game or for consoles. Activision’s stated Windows requirements for the titles covered are Windows 10 version 22H2 or later, or Windows 11. Windows 11 PCs may already have TPM and Secure Boot enabled, but check rather than assume. Activision’s current requirements and troubleshooting guidance are the controlling reference.

Check Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 in Windows

Check both features before entering your PC’s BIOS or UEFI. The checks are separate: Secure Boot is a startup setting, while TPM 2.0 is a security component that must also be available and active.

Check Secure Boot

  1. Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter.
  2. In System Information, find BIOS Mode and Secure Boot State.
  3. Confirm that BIOS Mode is UEFI and Secure Boot State is On.

If Secure Boot State is Off, Activision says the feature is supported but disabled. If it says Unsupported, consult the PC or motherboard documentation instead of trying random firmware changes.

Check TPM 2.0

  1. Press Windows + R, type tpm.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Check the TPM status. Activision identifies “The TPM is ready for use” as the indication that TPM 2.0 is active.

Activision lists Intel systems from the 8th generation onward with Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT), AMD Ryzen 2000-series systems and newer with AMD firmware TPM (fTPM), or a discrete TPM 2.0 module as ways a compatible PC may provide TPM 2.0.

  • 【Advanced Security & Encryption】 Powered by the standalone Infineon SLB9665 encryption processor. This module securely stores cryptographic keys for software like Windows BitLocker, providing a robust layer of hardware-based security for your data.
  • 【Platform Limits – No Laptops】 Optimized for Desktop motherboards from the DDR4 era (X99 series and newer). Not compatible with laptops or legacy DDR3 systems. Please verify your motherboard's header layout (2x10 pins) before ordering.
  • 【Easy Setup & BIOS Note】 Simple plug-and-play installation takes only minutes with no tools required. IMPORTANT: After installation, you MUST enable "Security Device Support" or "Intel PTT / AMD fTPM" in your BIOS settings for Windows to recognize the module.

What to do if Secure Boot is off

Secure Boot depends on the PC’s boot configuration. Activision lists UEFI boot mode, a GPT-partitioned Windows disk, and Secure Boot enabled in firmware among the requirements. Do not simply switch a PC from Legacy to UEFI if you have not checked its disk layout: a Windows disk using MBR may need a carefully planned conversion first.

  1. Check BIOS Mode in msinfo32. If it is Legacy rather than UEFI, consult your PC or motherboard maker’s instructions before changing boot mode.
  2. Check the Windows disk’s partition style. If it uses MBR, do not treat conversion to GPT as a quick BIOS toggle. Microsoft’s MBR2GPT documentation explains the conversion tool and its requirements.
  3. Use your manufacturer’s procedure to enter firmware settings. BIOS/UEFI entry methods and menu labels vary by PC and motherboard.
  4. Enable Secure Boot only after confirming the system is configured appropriately. Save the firmware change and restart Windows.
  5. Verify the result by reopening msinfo32 and checking that Secure Boot State reads On.

Activision warns that incorrect BIOS/UEFI changes can cause system problems, including boot failures. If the system reports Unsupported, the boot and disk requirements are unclear, or you are not comfortable changing firmware, use the PC or motherboard maker’s manual or support. Activision also provides a Secure Attestation Wizard to check requirements and identify configuration issues; the page lists version 1.2.0, updated September 16, 2026.

Why Call of Duty checks Secure Boot

Secure Boot is a firmware feature that helps ensure only trusted software loads during PC startup. Activision says it helps protect against low-level cheats; used alongside TPM 2.0, it supports a more secure Call of Duty experience. It is a system configuration requirement, not a setting inside the game’s graphics or gameplay menus.
