Copy the key from the stream’s settings in YouTube Studio, then enter it in XSplit Broadcaster’s YouTube output configuration. XSplit’s Broadcast menu is where you create or select that output. The exact field labels and clicks can vary by version, so use the Stream Key setup option if your installed output offers it; don’t confuse the key with the server URL.
Before entering the key
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and XSplit’s YouTube Live guide.
- Open XSplit Broadcaster and sign in or otherwise make sure you can access the output configuration for your YouTube stream.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
Copy the stream key from YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or open the stream you intend to broadcast.
- In the stream’s Stream settings, copy the stream key. YouTube describes the key as an encoder credential; treat it like a password. See Manage live stream settings.
- If XSplit asks for a server or stream URL as well, copy that separately from YouTube’s encoder settings. The URL goes in the server field; the key goes in the Stream Key field. They are different values.
Configure XSplit Broadcaster
- In XSplit, open Broadcast and select YouTube to configure a YouTube output. If no output is set up yet, use Broadcast > Set up a new output and follow the service setup wizard. XSplit documents this general workflow in its YouTube Live guide and getting-started guide.
- In the output configuration, choose the Stream Key setup mode if it is offered, then paste the key copied from YouTube into the Stream Key field. If the output also asks for a server URL, enter the matching URL from YouTube separately.
- Review the broadcast details XSplit presents, including title, description, tags, category, privacy, latency and DVR options. Confirm the privacy setting before starting.
- Select the YouTube output under Broadcast to start sending the encoder feed. For a scheduled YouTube event, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, then select Go live there to make the event public or otherwise live according to its configured visibility.
XSplit’s available controls can differ by version. Its current support guidance confirms the YouTube output workflow, but the precise current screen for manually entering a key is not documented in the accessible instructions. If you do not see a Stream Key field, check the options in the installed output rather than assuming a particular click path.
If YouTube is missing from XSplit
Use Broadcast > Set up a new output and choose a service through the setup wizard. XSplit’s support index also lists Custom RTMP for destinations without an output plugin, with a YouTube credentials guide for that configuration. The controls and authentication choices depend on the installed version. See XSplit Support.
Connection, quality and stream-health checks
- Consider RTMPS: YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection. Copy the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room and use it only if your selected XSplit output supports it. An encoder without RTMPS support may be the source of connection trouble. See YouTube encoder settings and stream health guidance.
- Check encoder settings: YouTube’s guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, frame rates up to 60 fps and a recommended two-second keyframe interval. These are YouTube recommendations, not a verified XSplit preset; select settings suitable for your content and connection.
- Test and monitor: YouTube recommends testing the setup and checking stream health. If the preview does not appear, confirm the server URL and key are from the same stream, then check the encoder’s connection status and YouTube’s stream-health information.
Troubleshooting
The stream key is rejected or the encoder will not connect
- Check for extra spaces or a truncated copy, and make sure the key belongs to the stream currently open in Live Control Room.
- If XSplit asks for a server URL, verify it separately; the URL and key are not interchangeable.
- Try RTMPS only when the XSplit output supports it. If it does not, check the output’s supported connection options.
YouTube shows no preview
- Confirm that XSplit is broadcasting to the intended YouTube output and that the encoder is actually sending data.
- Recheck the stream key and, if requested, the server URL. Then consult YouTube’s stream-health indicators.
The broadcast is not visible to viewers
- Check the event’s privacy and schedule in XSplit and YouTube Studio.
- For a scheduled event, starting the encoder may only send the preview. Select Go live in Live Control Room when the preview is ready.
The key may have been exposed
Reset the key in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then replace the saved key in XSplit with the newly generated one. Do not share screenshots or configuration files that reveal it.
