For a loop stream’s actual monthly ad earnings, use the stream’s estimated ad revenue in YouTube Analytics for the calendar month, including whichever live and replay activity you intend to count. To forecast before that total is available, calculate monthly views ÷ 1,000 × your channel’s historical ad-only RPM. Treat the result as an estimate: views are not the same as ad impressions, and eligible live ad slots are not guaranteed to serve.
Use YouTube Analytics for the month that has already happened
For a realized total, start with YouTube Analytics’ estimated ad revenue for the relevant content and date range. The YouTube Analytics API calls the corresponding metric estimatedAdRevenue: estimated net revenue from Google-sold advertising for the selected period and region. It can be adjusted at month end, and it excludes partner-sold or partner-served ads. See Google’s metric definitions.
- Set the reporting window. Use the calendar month you want to report, and note the channel’s reporting time zone if comparing it with another report or accounting period.
- Select the loop stream’s content. Filter to the relevant stream or replay where Analytics allows. YouTube’s live-stream guidance says ad revenue can be broken out with the Live filter; channel reports also provide a
liveOrOnDemanddimension for applicable reports. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance and the channel reports reference. - Choose live, replay, or both. State which activity the monthly figure covers. A replay can earn in a later period than the live broadcast. If your selected content and date range already include both, do not add replay earnings a second time.
- Read estimated ad revenue for that scope. Use the reported value for the selected date range and content as the realized ad-revenue figure; do not derive it by multiplying CPM by views.
- Recheck after month end. Estimated revenue can be adjusted, so a figure seen before the reporting period is finalized may change.
How to calculate a forecast
When the month is still in progress—or you are planning a future stream—use the channel’s own observed ad-only RPM from comparable content:
Estimated monthly ad revenue = monthly views ÷ 1,000 × ad-only RPM

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For example, if a channel’s comparable loop streams have an ad-only RPM of R, a forecast for V monthly views is (V ÷ 1,000) × R. Use the creator’s actual Analytics figures for V and R; there is no universal rate that can reliably predict a particular channel’s earnings. If Analytics only supplies a broader RPM that includes non-ad revenue, the calculation is approximate rather than an ad-only estimate.
For a range, use low, base, and high RPM values only when they reflect the channel’s actual historical range for comparable streams. Keep the assumptions visible, especially the date range, whether the figure includes replay views, and the RPM metric used.

RPM is not CPM: know which number answers your question
YouTube defines RPM as creator revenue after YouTube’s share per 1,000 views. It can combine multiple revenue sources, including ads and some non-ad revenue, so it is not automatically an ad-only rate. CPM is advertiser cost per 1,000 ad impressions; playback-based CPM is advertiser cost per 1,000 playbacks where one or more ads appeared. Neither CPM measure is the creator’s earnings per thousand total views. YouTube explains the distinctions in Understand ad revenue analytics.
The same YouTube Help page uses an illustrative example: $7 advertiser spend across 2,000 ad impressions gives a $3.50 CPM; across 1,500 monetized playbacks it gives a $4.67 playback-based CPM. Those amounts explain the calculations; they are not a typical rate or a forecast for a loop stream.

Views, monetized playbacks, and ad impressions describe different things. A monetized playback is a playback with at least one ad impression; the API definition includes a preroll even if the viewer leaves before the video begins. Ad impressions count verified ads served. Use these metrics to understand why revenue differs from views, not as interchangeable inputs.
Why a loop stream’s monthly result changes
- Ads do not serve on every view or eligible slot. YouTube says, “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” Its systems decide whether to serve an ad using multiple factors. Consequently, total views alone do not reveal how many playbacks were monetized.
- Mid-roll settings affect delivery opportunities. Live streams can use automatic or manual mid-rolls. YouTube recommends automatic mid-rolls and says its system may pause ads around high-engagement moments and some viewer interactions. These controls do not guarantee an ad on every opportunity.
- Automatic mid-roll results are not a personal guarantee. YouTube reported that creators who enabled live automatic mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour. That was a platform-reported comparison between channels that enabled live automatic mid-roll ads and those that did not, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. It is not a promised uplift for an individual channel or stream.
- Audience geography and season matter. Advertiser demand can change with viewers’ locations and time of year, including around holidays. A CPM difference between two months may reflect audience mix or seasonal demand rather than a change in the stream itself.
- RPM’s scope can shift. A broad RPM may change when the share of unmonetized views or non-ad revenue changes. For an ad-only estimate, track ad revenue separately rather than treating every RPM movement as a change in ad performance.
Compare months or loop streams on equal terms
Before deciding that one month or stream performed better, align the reporting period and scope. Compare estimated ad revenue for the same date range, and identify whether each total covers live viewing, replay viewing, or both.

| Measure | What it helps explain |
|---|---|
| Estimated ad revenue | The reported ad-revenue outcome for the chosen content, region, and date range. |
| Live versus replay share | Whether earnings came from the live broadcast or on-demand replay activity. |
| Views and monetized playbacks | How many views occurred and how many playbacks had at least one ad impression. |
| Ad impressions per monetized playback | How many verified ad impressions were served relative to playbacks that had an ad. |
| Playback-based CPM and audience geography | Advertiser-side value per ad-supported playback, interpreted in light of where viewers were located. |
| Mid-roll configuration | Whether the stream used automatic or manual live mid-roll settings. |
Use the same definitions and reporting windows in each comparison. A month with more views can still have lower ad revenue if fewer views are monetized or advertiser demand changes; raw CPM comparisons across different audiences or seasons need context.
