Take-Two’s investment case still turns on its own releases, spending trends, margins and cash generation—not on any verified combination with Electronic Arts. The EA transaction is an announced change of ownership, not a merger with Take-Two; the latest located EA filing said closing was expected, but did not confirm it. To assess TTWO, separate that deal’s possible industry effects from Take-Two’s reported results and management’s forecasts.
What is the EA deal, and what does it establish about Take-Two?
EA’s July 30, 2026 Form 8-K says it entered into a merger agreement on September 28, 2025 with Oak-Eagle entities formed by a consortium comprising the Public Investment Fund, funds affiliated with Silver Lake, and funds affiliated with Affinity Partners. EA said all regulatory approvals had been obtained and expected the transaction to close on or about August 4, subject to remaining customary closing conditions. That filing does not confirm that the deal closed or give final post-close terms.

For a Take-Two investor, this is an industry development to monitor, not evidence that Take-Two has been acquired, combined with EA, or directly changed by EA’s transaction. Possible effects on competition for players, talent, licenses, marketing or acquisition targets are hypotheses until there is evidence of an actual change. No independent market-share statistic or quantified estimate of the deal’s effect on Take-Two was located.
Verify the transaction before relying on it
Before treating the deal as completed or modeling its consequences, check a final company filing for closing, legal structure, consideration, financing and final ownership. Until those details are confirmed, keep the transaction’s status and its possible competitive effects separate from Take-Two’s results.

What do Take-Two’s latest reported numbers show?
Take-Two’s fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. Its August 7, 2026 update covered the first quarter of fiscal 2027, ended June 30, 2026. The measures below come from Take-Two disclosures; bookings and management guidance are not substitutes for GAAP earnings.
| Period and measure | Company-reported figure | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| FY2026 net revenue | $6.66 billion; up 18% year over year | GAAP revenue for the year ended March 31, 2026. |
| FY2026 net bookings | $6.72 billion | Take-Two’s operational metric, not GAAP revenue or profit. |
| FY2026 mobile net revenue | $3.33 billion; 50.1% of net revenue | Mobile supplied about half of reported revenue. |
| FY2026 recurrent consumer spending | $5.20 billion; 78.1% of net revenue; up 16% year over year | The company describes this as ongoing engagement, including virtual currency, add-on content and in-game purchases. |
| FY2026 GAAP net result | $298.2 million net loss | Revenue, bookings and recurrent spending growth did not translate into a GAAP profit for the year. |
| Q1 FY2027 net bookings | $1.39 billion; down 3% year over year | Recurrent-spending bookings fell 1% and were 84% of bookings. |
| Q1 FY2027 GAAP revenue | $1.53 billion | Recurrent consumer spending rose 3% and was 84% of GAAP revenue. |
| Q1 FY2027 GAAP net result | $34.1 million net loss | The quarter also included a $43.4 million impairment charge after Take-Two decided not to continue development of an unannounced third-party title. |
Keep bookings, spending and earnings distinct
Bookings can include licensing, merchandise, in-game advertising, strategy guides and publisher incentives. Recurrent consumer spending is a measure of engagement-related spending, not a profit measure. Compare both with GAAP revenue, operating income or loss, net income or loss and cash flow. Take-Two also cautions that EBITDA is non-GAAP and may not be comparable with similarly titled measures used by other companies.
How much does Take-Two depend on mobile and recurring spending?
Mobile’s 50.1% share of FY2026 net revenue makes its economics central to the investment case, rather than a side business. The 78.1% recurrent-spending share indicates that ongoing engagement-related purchases were a large part of FY2026 revenue. In the June quarter, recurrent consumer spending represented 84% of both bookings and GAAP revenue, but those are different denominators; the company reported the same percentage for each measure.
What to monitor in mobile
- Whether mobile bookings and revenue grow, stabilize or decline, using consistent periods and definitions.
- Retention and monetization: engagement-related sales matter only if they can be sustained without undermining the player base.
- Marketing and player-acquisition costs. Take-Two names mobile acquisition costs among the assumptions and risks relevant to its outlook.
- Foreign-exchange exposure, which can affect results from international operations.
The reported revenue mix alone does not establish mobile profitability, customer-acquisition efficiency or future growth. Those need to be evaluated alongside costs and cash generation.

Take-Two’s August 2026 release list identified NBA 2K27 as released on September 4, 2026, and listed Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Several other projects—including PGA TOUR 2K27, WWE 2K27, Top Goal, CSR 3, Judas, Project ETHOS and the next BioShock iteration—were marked TBA. The schedule is a dated company plan, not a guarantee; dates and plans can change.
GTA VI is consequently a major near-term execution and forecast dependency. Assess not only whether it launches on schedule, but also market reception and the durability of post-launch engagement. Take-Two’s FY2026 proxy reported nearly 230 million GTA V units sold-in to date and more than 80 million Red Dead Redemption 2 units sold-in as of the end of that fiscal year; NBA 2K26 sell-in exceeded 10 million. Sell-in figures are not active-player counts or consumer sell-through, and they do not promise future revenue.
Concentration cuts both ways
Established franchises and recurring engagement can support a durable portfolio, but reliance on NBA 2K and Grand Theft Auto leaves results exposed to delays, weaker-than-expected reception or difficulty creating new hits. Take-Two identifies release timing, market acceptance and the ability to create other successful titles among its risks. Treat a large franchise audience as evidence of reach, not as a guarantee that the next release will meet forecasts.

How should you handle Take-Two’s FY2027 outlook?
On August 7, management reiterated guidance for FY2027 net bookings of $8.0–$8.2 billion and projected more than $1.0 billion in operating cash flow. These are management estimates, not realized results. CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company was reiterating the bookings outlook alongside its characterization of first-quarter results and anticipation of GTA VI’s November 19 launch; that statement is management’s view, not independent confirmation of future performance.

Take-Two’s listed assumptions include timely delivery of forecast titles, growth in current-generation consoles, opportunities across PC, mobile and platforms, mobile player-acquisition costs, live-services performance and stable foreign exchange. Those assumptions give investors a practical checklist: a delay, cost increase or weaker live-services trend could alter the path to guidance even if the headline forecast is unchanged.
What should you check before investing in TTWO?
- Establish what happened with EA. Look for final filings confirming the closing, structure, consideration, financing and ownership. Do not treat expected closing as completed ownership or as a Take-Two transaction.
- Separate industry read-through from company evidence. For each proposed effect on competition, talent, licenses, marketing or player spending, ask what observable evidence would demonstrate it. Do not assume EA and Take-Two combined.
- Track operating measures beside GAAP results. Review bookings and recurrent spending with revenue, operating income or loss, net income or loss and cash flow. Check definitions and period comparisons rather than treating one metric as a proxy for the others.
- Stress-test the release slate. Consider schedule changes, launch reception and sustained engagement, with particular attention to major releases and the company’s concentration in GTA and NBA 2K.
- Test mobile economics. Assess mobile bookings, retention and monetization against acquisition costs and currency sensitivity; the revenue share by itself does not show margins.
- Assess financial capacity and valuation. Compare cash generation, liquidity, debt service, dilution and investment needs with the share price and a range of forecast outcomes. A dated quote alone cannot establish whether the shares are cheap or expensive.
- Build scenarios rather than a deal verdict. Vary launch timing and success, recurrent-spending trends, mobile acquisition costs, margins and cash conversion, and the EA transaction’s eventual competitive impact. State the assumptions and what evidence would change them.
Which risks and comparison points matter most?
Take-Two’s FY2026 annual filing identifies risks involving release timing and acceptance, international operations, interest rates and inflation, foreign exchange, retaining key development personnel, dependence on NBA 2K and Grand Theft Auto, creating other hits, platform opportunities, mobile player-acquisition costs and maintaining game pricing. These risks belong in the same analysis as franchise durability and the scale of recurrent spending.
When comparing Take-Two with another publisher or comparing scenarios for TTWO, keep definitions and dates consistent across bookings versus revenue, recurrent-spending share and growth, mobile versus console/PC mix, GAAP profitability, cash generation, release timing and concentration, liquidity, debt, dilution and valuation relative to forecast outcomes. EBITDA comparisons need particular care because companies may define similarly named non-GAAP measures differently.
As a dated reference only, Take-Two’s investor-relations page displayed $202.73 at the October 2, 2026 close, identifying the quote as Refinitiv-provided and at least 15 minutes delayed. It is not an October 4 live price, a valuation multiple or evidence that TTWO is cheap or expensive. Recheck the share price, filings, transaction status, guidance and release dates before making a decision.
