The 20 km figure is an evolution condition, not the normal distance for earning one Candy. Bramblin’s separate Pokédex data lists a 5 km Buddy Candy distance. Treat those as two different mechanics: the 5 km distance concerns Candy earning, while the 20 km total unlocks this evolution.

What Bramblin evolves into
Bramblin evolves directly into Brambleghast in Pokémon GO. There is no second species or branching choice in the listed evolution path. The current listed cost is 50 Bramblin Candy plus the 20 km Buddy task.

1. Choose the Bramblin you intend to evolve
Decide which Bramblin will become Brambleghast before you start the walking requirement. Set that Bramblin as your active Buddy so the distance you accumulate is associated with the Pokémon you plan to evolve. If you are comparing several Bramblin, check each summary first and select the one you actually want to keep.

2. Set Bramblin as your Buddy
Use Pokémon GO’s Buddy feature to make Bramblin the Pokémon accompanying your Trainer. The evolution listing specifies walking 20 km with Bramblin as your Buddy. Keep the Buddy assignment active while building the required distance, and use the Buddy progress shown in the game to monitor how much remains.
3. Accumulate 20 km of Buddy-walking progress
Walk until the Bramblin you selected has met the listed 20 km evolution task. The relevant total is the evolution progress displayed for that Bramblin, not merely a general distance total elsewhere in the app. Check the Pokémon’s details page if you are unsure whether the task is complete; Niantic says required species-specific evolution tasks are surfaced there.
4. Obtain 50 Bramblin Candy
Make sure your account has at least 50 Bramblin Candy. Niantic’s general guidance says the Candy requirement appears on the Pokémon summary, while the Bramblin evolution listing gives the current figure as 50 Candy. You can check the total before spending Candy on other Bramblin actions so you do not reach 20 km and then find that the Evolve button is still locked.

Open your Pokémon storage, select the Bramblin whose task you completed, and view its summary. When the 20 km task and 50-Candy requirement are satisfied, the Evolve button should be available. Tap it and confirm the evolution through the normal Pokémon GO evolution flow described by Niantic.

Where to find Bramblin
Bramblin’s Pokémon GO debut is tied to the official Fall Marathon: Buddy Trek event scheduled for October 13–19, 2026, with event times stated in local time. The announcement presents Bramblin as a first-time encounter in Pokémon GO; its Spanish wording says, “Por primera vez en Pokémon GO, os podréis encontrar a Bramblin.”
During the announced event window, the listed encounter routes include:
- GO Pass tasks
- Incense encounters
- Event Field Research encounters
These routes are event-specific. The announcement does not establish that the same encounter opportunities remain after October 19, so do not assume that Incense, GO Pass tasks or event Field Research will continue to provide Bramblin once the event ends. If you are reading this after the event window, check the live in-game encounter sources and Bramblin’s own summary rather than relying on the event schedule.
The 20 km task versus Bramblin’s Candy distance
Players often confuse the two distances because both involve the Buddy system. They are not interchangeable.

For example, reaching a Candy milestone after 5 km does not mean Bramblin has completed the evolution requirement. You still need the full 20 km task shown for the evolution.
How to check progress in the app
Use two screens for two different checks:
- Buddy progress: monitor the distance associated with Bramblin while it is your Buddy.
- Pokémon summary/details: confirm the Candy total and look for the species-specific evolution requirement and the Evolve button.
Niantic’s general instructions make the Pokémon details page the authoritative place to inspect a required evolution task, and the summary displays the Candy needed. If the in-game wording, distance or Candy total differs from the currently listed Bramblin data, follow the live information attached to your own Pokémon.
Why the Evolve button may still be unavailable
The walking total is below 20 km
The most direct cause is that the Bramblin has not reached the full listed distance. Continue using that Bramblin as your Buddy and recheck its details page after the game updates the progress.

You walked with a different Buddy
The requirement is specifically described as walking 20 km with Bramblin as your Buddy. Distance accumulated while another species was active does not satisfy the Bramblin-specific condition shown for the selected evolution. Set the Bramblin you intend to evolve as the Buddy and track its own progress.

You have fewer than 50 Bramblin Candy
Even with the walking task complete, the evolution cannot proceed until the summary shows the required Candy. Check the Candy count on the same Bramblin summary before attempting to evolve.
You are viewing a different Bramblin
If you own several Bramblin, open the exact one that accumulated the Buddy progress. Verify its details page rather than assuming that another Bramblin has inherited the same task status.
The game’s current requirement has changed
The 50-Candy and 20-km figures are the current listed Bramblin data, while Niantic’s page explains the general interface rather than publishing Bramblin’s exact numbers. Pokémon GO can change species requirements or presentation. If your live summary shows a different task, distance or Candy cost, use that in-game information as the current rule.

Is there a shortcut, trade method or evolution item?
The available Bramblin evolution listing establishes the 50-Candy cost and 20 km Buddy task. It does not establish a trade shortcut, evolution item or alternate method for bypassing the walk. Plan to complete the Buddy requirement unless your own Pokémon summary explicitly presents another option.

No physical product is required for this in-game evolution. The necessary actions are obtaining Bramblin, assigning it as a Buddy, completing the displayed distance and supplying the listed Candy.
What to do if Bramblin is unavailable
During the announced Fall Marathon: Buddy Trek window, check the event’s GO Pass tasks, Incense encounters and event Field Research. Because the announcement limits those routes to the October 13–19, 2026 event period, availability outside that window is not guaranteed by the event information. If you cannot find Bramblin afterward, consult the current encounter sources and the live event listings in Pokémon GO.
