Those are different tasks. For Bedrock Editor on PC, use File → Export → Shareable World to create a playable .mcworld file. For a visual map from Bedrock data, Bedrock Viz can generate images or a local interactive viewer. If the world is on a Realm, Minecraft’s download and transfer options may be the right route.
First choose what you want to export
- A playable world: a save or packaged world that can be opened in Minecraft on a compatible device.
- A world stored on a Realm: download a copy to a device, or use the Realm to transfer it between devices.
- A visual map: an image or interactive overview of terrain, biomes, or other world data. This is not a playable save.
The available steps depend on edition and device. The precise built-in export instructions below cover Bedrock Editor on Windows PC, Realm transfers, and a specific Android storage condition. They do not establish a current step-by-step export process for every Java, console, or iOS setup.
Export a playable world from Bedrock Editor
Bedrock Editor is a PC-only tool for Windows 10 or higher, according to Microsoft’s Editor overview. Its shareable-world export is a playable .mcworld package.
- Open the project in Bedrock Editor.
- Choose File → Export.
- Select Shareable World.
The Minecraft 26.30 Bedrock Changelog identifies this as the current route and says the resulting world has Editor settings and metadata removed. Do not use the older Edit Project → Export World button: the changelog says it is disabled. The same menu offers other outputs, including .mcproject for a project backup and .mctemplate for a world template; those are not the shareable playable-world export. See the 26.30 Bedrock Changelog.

Download or transfer a Bedrock world stored on a Realm
Minecraft Help describes downloading a Realm world through the Realm’s File Management controls. For a transfer between devices, its guidance is to upload the world to a Realm and download it on the destination device from the Realms tab. The exact controls can vary with the game interface, so follow the current options shown for that Realm rather than relying on a fixed sequence of button names. Details are in Minecraft Help’s Realm transfer instructions.
Copy a Bedrock world directly from Android only if it uses External storage
Minecraft Help says copying a Bedrock world from Android to a computer or another Android device is possible when its File Storage Location was set to External when that world was created. The condition matters: the instructions do not establish direct copying for every world, including worlds stored internally. See Minecraft Help’s Android backup guidance.

Create a visual map from Bedrock world data
If you want an overhead image or an interactive terrain viewer rather than a playable save, the community-maintained Bedrock Viz project can read Bedrock world files and generate overview images or a browser-based local viewer. Its views include biomes, block height, layers, and elevation shading.
Back up the world first and run Bedrock Viz against a copy. The project README repeats this warning because the tool may change source files. This is a Bedrock visualization option; the available documentation does not establish it as a Java Edition map tool.

What about Java, consoles, and other mobile devices?
The documented procedures above do not provide reliable, current step-by-step export instructions for Java Edition, consoles, or iOS. The correct route can depend on the platform, version, and whether the world is local or stored on a Realm. If you need exact steps for one of those configurations, identify your edition and device before choosing a file-copy or export method; do not assume the Bedrock Editor or Android instructions apply.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Keep a Realm copy before its retention window closes
Minecraft Help says a Realm world can be downloaded for 18 months after the subscription expires, while related backups are deleted 30 days after expiry. Its backup policy also says saves are made every 30 minutes and when a player saves and quits or disconnects; the four most recent saves are retained, with older saves kept less frequently over time. These are the timings described in Minecraft Help’s Realms backup policy.
