The official material available for Hytale confirms several farming changes, but it does not provide a complete, current player guide to tilling, planting, watering, and harvesting. That means a reliable step-by-step crop-growing sequence cannot be stated here without guessing at controls or mechanics. The dated updates do confirm how long tilled soil lasts, what changed for Eternal crops, and a correction to corn’s Farming Bench value.
What Hytale’s official notes confirm about farming
Hytale’s Update 2 notes, posted January 24, 2026, say tilled soil lifetime was increased to between 1.2 and 1.5 days. The notes do not explain what determines where soil falls within that range, so treat it as the stated range rather than a guaranteed duration for every plot.
- Update 2 fixed decay occurring under fully grown crops.
- It also says Eternal crops no longer break from accidental weapon damage.
- Breaking a fully grown Eternal crop returns its seeds, according to the same update.
These are dated patch-note statements, not confirmation that every farming mechanic is unchanged in the October 2026 build.
What is known about crop growth conditions
Hytale’s technical farming asset reference, marked Release 0.6.8, describes fertilizer, light-level, and water growth-modifier types. It does not give player-facing instructions for applying them or quantify how much they affect growth. So it supports saying these factors are represented in the farming data, not prescribing a watering schedule, light level, or fertilizer routine.

The official Server API farming package overview also confirms that farming systems and tilled-soil handling exist, but it is technical documentation rather than a guide to in-game player controls. Neither source fills in the missing sequence for preparing soil, sowing seeds, tending plants, or harvesting.
Corn’s Farming Bench value changed in Update 1
Hytale’s Update 1 notes, posted January 17, 2026, say corn was corrected to give 1 Essence of Life when exchanged at the Farming Bench, down from 4. The notes describe the earlier value as a misconfiguration that made corn better than higher-tier crops. This correction alone does not establish a current crop-profitability ranking or the exchange value of other crops.

What you can and cannot safely infer
- Supported: the January Update 2 soil-lifetime range and its listed fixes for crop decay and Eternal crops.
- Supported: the January Update 1 corn-value correction and the fact that some crop-growth issues, including issues affecting tomatoes, were fixed.
- Not established by these sources: current controls and exact steps for planting or harvesting, crop-by-crop growth times or yields, and how water, light, fertilizer, or rain change growth in ordinary play.
Update 1 also says chunks are now saved when a farming block updates. That records a January fix; it is not proof that every crop-growth or saving issue has remained resolved in later builds.
For a dependable how-to in a particular build, use current in-game instructions or current official player documentation for the exact actions and controls. The dated patch notes are useful for understanding the changes above, but they are not a substitute for that workflow.
