Farm the highest Netherrealm difficulty your character can clear quickly and consistently, not the highest difficulty shown on the menu. Use the Netherrealm progression loop to unlock better content, tune a loot filter to your current target, and sell genuinely valuable drops through the in-game Trade House when your goal is Flame Elementium. Clear speed, deaths, map-material costs, seasonal mechanics, and current market demand all matter more than a single advertised route or currency-per-hour figure.
What efficient farming actually means
Efficient farming is the amount of useful progress and saleable value you produce for the time, risk, and materials you spend. A difficult stage that takes several minutes, consumes scarce map items, or kills your character repeatedly can be less profitable than a lower stage that you finish cleanly in a fraction of the time.

There is no universal best route. Character power, movement speed, damage uptime, defensive reliability, available Beacons and Compasses, the season’s mechanics, and Trade House prices change the answer. Treat any route as a working option to measure against your own runs rather than as a permanent rule.

- Throughput: finish maps with little downtime and few or no deaths.
- Value: collect drops that are useful to your build or liquid enough to sell.
- Cost control: account for map materials, failed runs, repair or recovery time, and the opportunity cost of slow clears.
Learn the Netherrealm loop before optimizing it
1. Use Beacons to open stages
Beacons are the entry point for Netherrealm stages. Select the stage you want, spend the required Beacon, and clear the map. During the progression phase, the objective is not to maximize every individual drop; it is to open the next useful part of the system.

2. Defeat the Plane Watcher
Clearing the relevant stages advances you toward a Plane Watcher encounter. Defeating the Plane Watcher is a progression gate and produces Cinders, which are used to unlock additional Netherrealm content. If you ignore these encounters while chasing small amounts of loot, you can delay access to more rewarding stages.
3. Advance Timemarks and planes
Timemarks represent increasing Netherrealm difficulty. Early runs should be viewed as a route toward stable access to later Timemarks, not as a final farming setup. Unlocking content broadens the pool of maps and mechanics available to you, but it does not make a high Timemark automatically profitable.
4. Repeat the loop with a defined target
Once you have access to a difficulty your build can sustain, decide what the run is meant to produce: progression, direct loot for an upgrade, crafting or trading materials, Beacons and Compasses, Memories, or currency from sales. A filter and a route are easier to judge when every run has one primary objective.
Choose the right Timemark for your character
Start with the highest Timemark where your clear time, survival, and supply costs remain acceptable over a meaningful sample of runs. “Highest” is a ceiling test, not an instruction to farm the hardest stage regardless of performance.
Measure the tier instead of guessing
- Run the candidate Timemark several times with the same character, filter, and map-material budget.
- Record completion time, time spent between maps, deaths, failed entries, and the number of runs completed.
- Separate drops into items you keep, items you can sell, and items with no realistic use.
- Check the Trade House for current demand before assigning a value to saleable items.
- Compare the result with a lower Timemark. Keep the harder tier only when its extra value outweighs slower clears, deaths, and material costs.
What a sustainable tier looks like
- Most maps finish without emergency defensive play or repeated retreats.
- Your damage remains reliable against ordinary monsters and the Plane Watcher.
- A death is an unusual mistake rather than an expected part of every run.
- You can replenish the required Beacons, Compasses, or other map materials without exhausting your stock immediately.
- The tier produces at least one target category often enough to justify the time spent sorting and selling.
A third-party progression guide updated September 30, 2026, lists level 90–95, at least 3,000 life, and item-level-80-or-higher gear as comfortable targets for Timemark 7 farming. Those figures are guide benchmarks, not official entry requirements or universal build rules. A well-optimized build can differ, while a character that meets the numbers may still fail because its resistances, mitigation, damage uptime, or movement are poor.

Use a progression, farming, and currency phase
Progression phase: unlock before you optimize
Work through planes and Timemarks with a stable build. Spend Beacons to open stages, defeat Plane Watchers to earn Cinders, and use those Cinders to unlock further content. During this phase, pick up upgrades that solve your next bottleneck even if they are not valuable on the market. The return is access and power, not a clean currency calculation.
Farm phase: repeat the fastest reliable tier
After unlocking a workable range, select one or two Timemarks that your character clears at a repeatable pace. Keeping the route narrow reduces time lost deciding what to run and makes your records meaningful. Change tiers when your build, gear, or the season changes rather than changing after every unlucky drop.

When Flame Elementium is the objective, separate “valuable to me” from “valuable to another player.” Keep direct Flame Elementium drops, but also inspect materials and equipment that other players need. List eligible items through the in-game Trade House when the expected sale value justifies the listing effort. Currency is realized only when an item sells, so an expensive listing with no buyers is not income.
Configure the loot filter around one target
A filter prevents the map floor from becoming a sorting task. Start broad while you are still upgrading your character; narrow it after you know which item bases, materials, and seasonal drops matter.
For gear upgrades
- Show item bases that can replace a weak slot or support the build you are actually playing.
- Keep higher-level or otherwise relevant bases visible until you have verified the season’s crafting and trade demand.
- Hide low-value equipment only after you can identify it reliably from your build and market goals.
For trade-focused farming
- Show valuable materials, Beacons, Compasses, Memories, and gear categories with active demand.
- Keep a separate view or filter for items worth checking manually rather than hiding them permanently.
- Remove common drops that consume inventory space without a realistic sale or upgrade use.
For progression
- Favor upgrade candidates and materials required by your immediate build plan.
- Do not hide a category merely because it has low market value if it is needed to unlock or stabilize your next Timemark.
XD’s SS14 update notes state that, when a loot filter is enabled, hidden items no longer delay other drops. That change improves visibility and pickup flow, but it does not decide which categories are valuable. Recheck the filter after a seasonal update: an item that was safe to hide can become relevant when drop rules or crafting demand change.

What to pick up and sell for Flame Elementium
A Flame Elementium session can contain several kinds of value. The exact ranking moves with the season and the live market, so verify prices in the Trade House rather than relying on an old list.

The official Torchlight: Infinite game description presents the Trade House as part of an economy where players can trade items and builds. The marketplace is therefore part of the farming loop, not an optional external activity. Prices and liquidity are not fixed: a drop’s displayed listing price can fall, and an item may take time to sell.
How to price without fooling yourself
- Search the exact item type, base, roll range, and relevant modifiers.
- Ignore unusually high aspirational listings when several cheaper comparable items are available.
- Estimate the net value of a sale against the time spent identifying, listing, and relisting it.
- Record completed sales or realistic market-clearing prices, not just the highest visible ask.
- Remove stale listings and adjust your filter when a category stops moving.
How much Flame Elementium per hour should you expect?
Do not treat any hourly number as a guarantee. A Flame Elementium guide from the MUSA team, updated September 30, 2026, reports around 700 FE per hour for strong Timemark 7/8 farming with approximately one-minute clears. That is a guide estimate, not an official rate or promise. It depends on the build, route, map materials, patch balance, pickup discipline, sale prices, and whether the listed items actually sell.
Your own record is more useful than a headline number. Measure at least a complete block of runs, include direct drops and completed sales, and record the value of materials consumed. A short test can be distorted by an unusually valuable drop or a bad run of maps.
Compare routes with the six questions that matter
There is no controlled published comparison establishing one route as the best. Use the following framework whenever you compare a lower, faster Timemark with a higher, slower one.

Reduce downtime between maps
Clear speed is more than monster-kill time. Prepare the next Beacon before leaving the current results screen, keep your filter focused, and use a consistent inventory routine. Identify obvious upgrade or trade candidates first; postpone deep inspection of marginal gear until a dedicated sorting break.
- Keep enough Beacons and other entry materials ready for a full session.
- Use a fixed stash layout for saleable materials, gear to inspect, and items to keep.
- Set a selling interval, such as after a block of runs, instead of returning to the Trade House after every map.
- Stop a session when deaths or clear times show that concentration or build stability has deteriorated.
- Track direct currency, saleable drops, material costs, completed sales, and total time in the same note.
Season and patch changes can invalidate old routes
Loot rules are not permanent. XD’s SS13 and SS14 update logs document changes to mechanics and drop behavior, which is why an old Timemark threshold or chest strategy should not be presented as a current law.
SS14 includes a talent-specific example: under its stated monster-defeat condition, a specified Netherrealm medium talent has a 0.03% chance to spawn an additional Beacon treasure chest. That probability applies to that talent and condition; it is not a general Netherrealm drop rate and should not be used to estimate every player’s income.
The official store material available on October 13, 2026 still displays Afterlight promotional content, while an official search result announces a Tartarus preview for October 16, 2026. Because that preview was after the available authoritative timestamp, precise Tartarus farming thresholds and routes were not yet verified. Check the post-preview and post-launch patch notes, then inspect the live Trade House before changing your route.

You die or barely survive
Drop one or more Timemarks until the character clears without routine deaths. Review defenses, resistances, recovery, and movement before raising difficulty again. A lower tier that finishes cleanly produces a more dependable sample and preserves entry materials.

The map is too slow
Compare the actual clear timer with a lower tier, including time spent on resistant monsters and the Plane Watcher. If the harder stage adds little target value but substantially lowers runs per hour, farm the faster stage while improving the build.
Your inventory fills with junk
Tighten the loot filter by hiding categories that are neither upgrades nor realistic sales. Keep a manual review category for unfamiliar seasonal items until their value is established.
Listings do not sell
Search comparable completed or competitive listings, lower unrealistic prices, and stop picking up categories with weak liquidity. An item that looks rare can still have no buyers.
You cannot tell whether a route is profitable
Run a fixed number of maps, record all direct and sold value, and subtract consumed materials. Do not combine progression runs, experimental builds, and currency runs in one result.

A practical session checklist
- Choose one goal: unlock progression, obtain an upgrade, or generate trade value.
- Select the highest Timemark that your build can clear repeatedly without routine deaths.
- Confirm that the target item category can appear at that difficulty.
- Set the loot filter to show the target and hide only categories you have verified as irrelevant.
- Prepare enough Beacons and related materials for a measured block of maps.
- Clear stages, advance the Plane Watcher progression, and collect Cinders when progression is the goal.
- Record clear time, deaths, materials consumed, direct Flame Elementium, and saleable drops.
- List liquid items through the in-game Trade House during your planned sorting interval.
- Compare the result with a lower or higher tier only after accounting for time, costs, and completed sales.
- Recheck official season notes and marketplace demand after a patch before adopting a new route.
