To feed a sea turtle its favorite food in Disney Dreamlight Valley, bring Seaweed to Dazzle Beach, approach a turtle, wait for it to stop hiding in its shell, then interact and select Seaweed. Seaweed is the favorite food for the Black, Brown, Classic, Purple and White sea-turtle variants.
What sea turtles eat
Every sea-turtle color listed for this mechanic has the same favorite food: Seaweed. That means you do not need a different item for a Black, Brown, Classic, Purple or White turtle.

The food does not change depending on whether you are trying to make a turtle a companion, complete a Dreamlight Duty, or finish a Star Path objective. Use Seaweed whenever the objective specifically asks for a favorite food.

- Get Seaweed. Seaweed is obtained by fishing. Keep some in your inventory before traveling to the beach.
- Go to Dazzle Beach. Sea turtles spawn in this biome, so search along the shoreline and nearby sandy areas.
- Approach carefully. When you get close, the turtle may pull its head and legs into its shell. Do not try to feed it while it is withdrawn.
- Wait for it to emerge. Stand nearby without crowding it. Once the head comes back out, the interaction prompt becomes available.
- Interact and choose Seaweed. Select Seaweed from the feeding menu to give the turtle its favorite food.
Why the turtle will not come out of its shell
The shell animation is the normal response to your approach, not an indication that the turtle cannot be fed. Move close enough to trigger the behavior, then stop and wait. Trying to interact while the turtle is still fully inside the shell will not start the feeding menu.

A community guide also reports that dropping Seaweed on the ground in front of a shelled turtle can make it emerge immediately. Treat this as a convenience reported by players, not as a guaranteed mechanic in every game version. Waiting beside the turtle remains the dependable method.
When sea turtles appear
Availability is specific to each variant. The Black Sea Turtle entry lists Monday, while Brown, Classic, Purple and White turtles have their own day-and-time windows. If you are hunting a particular color, check the current creature schedule rather than assuming that every turtle appears at the same time.

Schedules and behavior can change between game versions, so a turtle missing from Dazzle Beach does not necessarily mean you are searching in the wrong biome. Confirm the variant’s active window and return during that period.

Do not repeatedly spend Seaweed on the same turtle in one day without a reason. The White Sea Turtle guidance states: “Feeding a White Sea Turtlejust once a day is all that counts—offering food multiple times in a day is simply a waste of resources.” The same guidance says that most creatures generally need two to three feedings of their favorite food to win trust, but it does not establish one universal companion-unlock number for every sea-turtle color.

For practical play, feed the turtle once when it is available, then return on later days as needed. This avoids wasting Seaweed while still progressing relationship or companion goals.

Favorite-food feeding can produce a Dream Shard or Memory Shard, according to community creature listings. Sea turtles are also reported to like seafood, with Festive Squid excluded from that preference. Liked food can be useful when you simply want to give the turtle something it accepts, but Seaweed is the correct choice for a task that requires its favorite food.

Quick troubleshooting checklist
- No feeding prompt: Wait until the turtle’s head is visibly out of the shell.
- No sea turtle at the beach: Verify that you are in Dazzle Beach and that the chosen variant is within its listed day and time window.
- No Seaweed in your bag: Fish to collect more before approaching the turtle.
- You fed it already today: Save resources and try again on a later day, especially for the White variant’s once-daily guidance.
- A dropped item did nothing: The drop-and-emerge trick is not guaranteed across versions; use the wait-for-emergence method.
