Wrath of the Machine is a six-player raid in Destiny: Rise of Iron. To assemble a group, first confirm that you own the Rise of Iron content on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, then post a complete recruitment message in an active Destiny 1 community LFG space. Include your platform, date, start time and time zone, open slots, microphone and language requirements, experience level, and whether the run is for teaching or experienced players.
Do not assume Bungie’s current Fireteam Finder is a native queue for this raid. Bungie’s published Fireteam Finder instructions describe a Destiny 2 feature, while Wrath of the Machine belongs to the legacy Destiny 1 ecosystem.

What you need before recruiting
Wrath of the Machine launched with Destiny: Rise of Iron on September 23, 2016. Bungie’s launch coverage described six players becoming legends, so your practical target is a six-person fireteam, including yourself. Decide how many places you need before you post: a solo organizer should advertise five open spots, while a pair should advertise four.

Supported consoles
Rise of Iron is supported on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are legacy consoles for this expansion, so do not promise a Wrath of the Machine run for those systems. Check the account and console you will actually use before you begin recruiting. A player who owns the base game but not Rise of Iron may be unable to enter the raid.

Access and legacy expectations
Bungie’s legacy-support information says that Destiny 1 will no longer receive planned game updates or content. That does not make an existing raid automatically unavailable, but it does mean you should plan around community recruitment rather than expect a newly maintained matchmaking queue or fresh official activity support. Confirm that your installation, account license, and console are ready before asking other players to reserve time.
Where to look for players
The most reliable approach is to use active Destiny community LFG channels that still accept Destiny 1 posts. Search for spaces organized by console, region, or time zone, and use the channel’s current rules for tags, direct messages, and platform-ID exchange.
General LFG channels
Use a post that clearly identifies the game and raid rather than writing only “raid tonight.” Include “Destiny 1,” “Rise of Iron,” and “Wrath of the Machine” so that readers do not mistake the request for a Destiny 2 activity. Console-specific channels can reduce mismatched applications, while broad Destiny channels may give you a larger pool but require more screening.

Bungie specifically noted that many community sherpas knew the route through the raid and encouraged inexperienced players to request a guide. Search community listings for phrases such as “Wrath of the Machine sherpa,” “D1 raid teaching,” or a platform-specific equivalent. Read the listing carefully: some posts use “sherpa” to mean a patient teacher, while others are experienced runs that simply have one knowledgeable organizer.
Friends, clan contacts, and returning players
Players who completed the raid years ago may be willing to return if you provide a definite schedule. Ask friends or former clan contacts to share the post, but still state the same requirements you would use in a public listing. A returning player may remember the raid but need a refresher on roles, terminology, or encounter order, so agree on the teaching pace before launch.
How to write an effective LFG post
A complete post answers the questions applicants would otherwise need to ask one at a time. Bungie’s Fireteam guidance identifies activity, platform, player count, schedule, microphone, language, and character as useful listing fields. Use those categories even when posting outside Bungie’s own tools.

Use a specific title
Write a title that can be understood in a crowded channel. For example:
Wrath of the Machine | PS4 | 5 spots | teaching run | 20:00 UTC
This title tells readers the raid, platform, number of openings, run type, and start time. If you are organizing an experienced group, replace “teaching run” with “experienced” or “experienced clears.” If the run is intended to practice a particular goal, say so without implying a requirement that you cannot verify.
Put the logistics in the body
- Platform: State PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
- Date and start time: Give the calendar date and a time zone, not only “tonight.”
- Open slots: State how many places remain and the six-player target.
- Objective: Identify a normal clear, a challenge-oriented attempt, practice, or another specific goal.
- Experience level: Say whether the group is teaching, mixed-experience, experienced, or blind.
- Communication: State whether a microphone is expected and what language the group will use.
- Availability: Ask applicants to confirm that they can stay for the full planned session.
- Contact method: Explain whether people should reply in the channel, send a direct message, or exchange a platform ID after confirmation.

Body: “Looking for four players for a Destiny 1 Rise of Iron Wrath of the Machine run. Xbox One only. Teaching pace; new players welcome. Microphone and English communication expected. Goal is a normal clear. Please be available at 19:00 UTC on Saturday and remain for the session. Reply with your raid experience, whether you want instruction, and your Xbox profile name. I will confirm the final six before sending invites.”
Adjust the wording for your community’s rules, but keep the facts visible. Avoid vague requests such as “need five, know what to do,” which leave platform, schedule, and teaching expectations unresolved.

Recruit for compatibility, not just speed
The fastest way to fill a list is not always the fastest way to finish a raid. Screen applicants for the conditions that determine whether the group can function together.
Match the platform first
Confirm PlayStation 4 or Xbox One before discussing anything else. A player on the wrong console cannot be moved into the correct fireteam by changing a setting. If a post receives replies from several platforms, restate the required system when you respond so there is no last-minute confusion.
Agree on teaching style
Ask each applicant whether they have cleared Wrath of the Machine and whether they want instruction. A teaching group needs time for explanations and questions. An experienced group may expect players to know the route already. A blind run has a different pace again. Put the chosen format in the final confirmation message so nobody joins expecting a different experience.

Check communication and language
Microphone availability matters when a group must coordinate in real time. State whether every player needs a working microphone or whether listening is sufficient for a particular role. Specify the spoken language and ask applicants to confirm that they can follow callouts. These details are more useful than a generic request for “good communication.”
Confirm the time commitment
Ask players to remain available for the full session you have scheduled. Give a realistic start time in a named time zone, and convert it for your local group when needed. If someone can stay only for the first part, place that limitation in the roster before the run begins rather than discovering it after invitations are sent.
Ask about experience without gatekeeping unnecessarily
For a teaching run, request an honest experience description instead of demanding a completion proof you cannot verify. Useful answers include “first clear,” “watched guides but not cleared,” or “completed before and can help explain.” For an experienced run, state the expected familiarity plainly so a new player does not feel misled.

Choose the right recruiting format

Use the approach that matches your goal. A teaching run should not be advertised as a speed-focused experienced clear, and an immediate pickup should not hide that the start time is several days away.
Using Bungie’s Fireteam Finder without confusing it with Destiny 1 support
Bungie’s Fireteam Finder documentation explains how Destiny 2 players can open Fireteam Finder from the Roster tab or an activity launch screen, search listings, and create a listing. Its listing guidance also describes fields for activity, platform, player count, schedule, microphone, language, and character.
Those pages document a Destiny 2 feature. They are not confirmation of a native Destiny 1 queue for Wrath of the Machine. Treat Fireteam Finder information as guidance about the kinds of details a good listing needs, not as proof that the raid will appear as a selectable Destiny 1 activity. For this raid, use community LFG channels that explicitly support Destiny 1 and verify every listing’s game and platform.
From first reply to a confirmed roster
- Collect the essential details. Ask each applicant for platform, raid experience, preferred run type, microphone status, language, and availability for the full session.
- Remove mismatches early. Decline applicants on the wrong console or those who cannot meet the stated communication or schedule requirements. Do this before exchanging platform IDs.
- Balance the run format. If the post promised teaching, keep enough room for explanations. If it promised an experienced run, confirm that the final roster understands the expected familiarity.
- Confirm six players. Count yourself and the accepted applicants. Do not assume a partially filled list will become a complete fireteam at the scheduled start.
- Send one final message. Repeat the raid, platform, date, time zone, start time, objective, communication expectation, and contact method. Ask every player to acknowledge.
- Keep a reserve list when practical. Legacy activities rely on community availability, so a confirmed player may still become unavailable. A reserve can fill a vacancy without restarting recruitment.
- Invite only after confirmation. Exchange the relevant platform IDs through the community’s accepted method, then send invites close enough to the scheduled start that the roster is still current.
What to do if recruitment stalls
Few or no replies
Rewrite the post with the missing facts first: platform, exact UTC or local time with zone, number of openings, and whether the group teaches. Search for a different active Destiny 1 channel or a platform-specific community. A listing that says only “need raid team” gives readers no way to decide whether they fit.
Applicants have conflicting expectations
Pause recruitment and restate the format. Tell new applicants whether the session is teaching, experienced, blind, normal, or challenge-oriented. If the existing roster wants different things, choose one format and ask players who cannot accept it to leave before the start.

Check whether the issue is a missing microphone, a language mismatch, or an inability to hear group audio. If the original post required a microphone, replace the player or move them to a run whose organizer explicitly accepts listening-only participants. Do not wait until a coordination-heavy section to discover that the requirement was not met.

A last-minute vacancy appears
Post the opening with the same complete title and include the exact remaining start time. Contact your reserve list first, then broaden to the community. State whether the replacement must already know the raid or whether the group can teach someone new.
Someone arrives expecting Destiny 2
Reconfirm the game before sending an invitation: this is Destiny 1, the Rise of Iron expansion, and the Wrath of the Machine raid. If the player is looking for a Destiny 2 activity, release the slot rather than trying to reconcile incompatible expectations.
A practical pre-run checklist
- Six total players are planned.
- Every player is on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, matching the listing.
- Each player has access to Rise of Iron.
- The date and start time have been stated with a time zone.
- The group has agreed on teaching, experienced, or blind expectations.
- The objective is clear, such as a normal clear or a challenge-oriented attempt.
- Microphone and language requirements are understood.
- Every player has confirmed they can remain for the planned session.
- Platform IDs or the approved invite method are ready.
- A reserve contact is available if one can be arranged.
Questions to ask in a sherpa request
Make a teaching request easy to answer by including three direct questions: “Have you cleared Wrath of the Machine before?”, “Are you willing to explain the route to new players?”, and “What session length and start time can you support?” These questions distinguish a genuine guide from an experienced player who is not offering instruction.

Why a complete post matters more for this raid
Wrath of the Machine is part of a legacy Destiny 1 environment rather than a newly maintained activity ecosystem. The available official documentation establishes the raid’s six-player structure, Rise of Iron’s PS4 and Xbox One support, and the existence of community sherpas, but it does not publish a current population, queue size, completion rate, or average response time. Do not promise that a group will fill within a particular number of minutes. Give applicants enough information to make a decision, and allow time for community recruitment.
The dependable formula is simple: verify access, identify Destiny 1 and Rise of Iron in the post, advertise six-player capacity, publish a precise schedule, and match players by platform, communication, and experience. That process is more useful than relying on an official-looking menu that is documented for a different game.
