To find a good deal on a new PlayStation console, compare the same model and condition at PlayStation Direct and authorized retailers, then judge the final checkout price against a dated baseline—not a headline discount. Check who is selling it, what the bundle contains, and whether shipping, tax, membership, or payment terms change the total.
Start with a trustworthy new-console listing
For a new console, Sony recommends buying from an authorized retailer. Sony says authorized sellers help ensure authenticity, functionality, return-policy access, and warranty coverage; unauthorized sellers can expose buyers to theft- or fraud-related product risks. See Sony’s PlayStation buying guidance.
At checkout, verify that the item is explicitly listed as new and that the seller is the retailer itself or a clearly identified authorized seller. A marketplace listing’s platform name does not by itself establish who the seller is or whether the product is new. If either point is unclear, do not treat the listing as a comparable new-console deal.
Choose the exact console before comparing prices
PlayStation Direct’s US console page distinguishes an 825 GB Digital Edition, a 1 TB PS5, and a 2 TB PS5 Pro. These are different configurations, so a lower price may reflect a different model, storage capacity, or disc-drive setup rather than a discount on the console you want. Check the current model details on PlayStation Direct’s US console page.
#1 Best Overall
- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
Decide whether you want a standard PS5, Digital Edition, or PS5 Pro, and confirm whether a disc drive is included. Compare only listings that match those choices. A price for one configuration is not a like-for-like benchmark for another.
Use a dated price baseline, not an assumed discount
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s recommended prices, effective April 2, 2026, provide a US reference point: $649.99 for PS5, $599.99 for PS5 Digital Edition, and $899.99 for PS5 Pro. Sony also announced recommended prices for the UK, Europe, and Japan:

These are Sony’s recommended prices for the named regions, not a promise that every retailer currently charges them. Sony said the April 2026 increase reflected “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” Read the official PlayStation price announcement and use a local source for markets not listed there.
When accessed on October 4, 2026, PlayStation Direct’s US page listed the 825 GB Digital Edition at $599.00 and the 1 TB PS5 at $649.00. Those page snapshot prices were each $0.99 below Sony’s separately announced US recommended prices. They are listing prices observed on that date, not guaranteed current prices or final checkout totals; confirm the live page and cart before buying.

Compare the total value, especially for bundles
A bundle is worthwhile only if its included items matter to you. Compare the bundle against a bare console plus the games or accessories you would otherwise buy, and count only those items at a value you would actually pay. Add shipping and tax, then compare equivalent contents and the final cart total.
- Seller and condition: confirm the item is new and identify the seller.
- Model: match the console edition, storage, and disc-drive configuration.
- Bundle contents: list included games and accessories; do not count unwanted extras as savings.
- Checkout terms: check shipping, tax, required membership, coupon or card requirements, trade-in conditions, and financing costs.
- Offer freshness: confirm availability, seller, condition, and cart price immediately before purchase.
Retailer deal pages and inventory change. For example, a GamesRadar+ roundup in October 2026 showed Sony-certified refurbished units and a UK Ghost of Yōtei bundle; neither example establishes a universal discount on a new, standalone console. Treat any offer as a snapshot, and recheck the actual listing. See its PS5 deals roundup for the dated context.

If new-console prices exceed your budget
Sony-certified refurbished stock is a separate condition category, not a new console. Sony says certified refurbished products include a warranty; its US refurbished-console listing notes possible minor cosmetic imperfections and a 12-month manufacturer warranty. Consider it only if you are willing to accept that condition trade-off, and review the specific terms on Sony’s certified refurbished PS5 page.
