Search the Windward Plains desert around the oasis at night during Fallow or Plenty. Start near Areas 13 and 16, and look for a small blue sparkle. Keep your distance: a Sandstar can flee when approached. Stun it with a Screamer Pod fired from your Slinger, then catch it with the Capture Net.
Where to look for a Sandstar
Sandstars are reported in the desert oasis region of the Windward Plains, especially between Areas 13 and 16. Begin around Area 13 and scan the nearby oasis; if you do not spot one, widen your search to Areas 11 and 16. These are useful search areas, not confirmed exact spawn coordinates.
Look at night during Fallow or Plenty, the conditions under which sightings are reported. They do not guarantee a Sandstar will appear on every visit, and no verified spawn probability or guaranteed reset method is established.
How to catch it without scaring it off
- Prepare before approaching. Equip the Capture Net to your Slinger and make sure you have a Screamer Pod ready. Sandstars are reported to flee when approached, so spot one before moving closer.
- Fire a Screamer Pod. Aim the Slinger at the Sandstar and fire the pod to stun it.
- Use the Capture Net while it is stunned. Aim and fire the net promptly. PlayStation’s Monster Hunter Wilds starter guide describes the general endemic-life net controls: equip the net to the Slinger, aim, and fire when the reticle changes color.
If the Sandstar does not appear
- Check that it is night and that the Windward Plains is in Fallow or Plenty.
- Search around the oasis, starting near Area 13 and expanding through Areas 11 and 16.
- Keep your distance while scanning. There is no established guarantee that leaving and reloading a lobby will produce a spawn.
