On PS5, “free” can mean three different things: a free-to-play game you can download without PlayStation Plus, a monthly game you claim through an active PlayStation Plus membership, or a limited offer such as a voucher or Store discount. Use the right route below, and check your account’s regional PlayStation Store for current availability and terms.
Find free-to-play games in the PlayStation Store
Open PlayStation Store on your PS5 and browse its free-to-play section, or search for a specific title. The Store listing is the place to confirm that a game is currently available in your region and to see any platform or account requirements.
Sony says most free-to-play games, including Fortnite, Apex Legends and Call of Duty: Warzone, do not require PlayStation Plus membership. That applies to access to the base game, not necessarily every optional add-on or service. PlayStation Plus may separately offer selected content packs for some free-to-play games; those extras are not required to access the base game. See Sony’s PlayStation Plus FAQ and check the game’s current Store page, since availability and game offers can change.
Claim the monthly PlayStation Plus games
Monthly games are a PlayStation Plus benefit, not permanent giveaways for every account. Sony says they can be downloaded and played at no extra charge during an active membership. You need to claim the monthly title while it is offered, and you need to remain an active member to play claimed monthly games. New monthly games are added each calendar month. Sony’s instructions for accessing PlayStation Plus games also describe claiming from a web browser or the PlayStation App.

- From the PS5 Games home screen, move right and select PlayStation Plus.
- Open Benefits, then select Monthly Games.
- Highlight a game and choose Download.
Once the download finishes, launch it from your game library. The monthly-games offer and the time a game remains available to claim are distinct from whether a game is included in a subscription catalogue.
Know the difference between monthly games, catalogues and trials
PlayStation Plus has different benefits by tier. Sony describes the Game Catalog as an Extra benefit; Premium includes the Game Catalog, Classics Catalog and Game Trials. Catalogue games are not the same as monthly games: catalogue selections can rotate or have removal dates, and availability varies by plan and over time. Before subscribing or changing tiers, compare the benefits you expect to use, the current catalogue and trial access in your region, the local price and billing term, and the renewal and cancellation terms. Redeem a voucher or use a discount code
A voucher code and a Store discount code use different flows. Sony’s support instructions identify voucher codes as 12 digits and discount codes as 10 digits. Consult Sony’s voucher-code instructions if the on-console labels differ in your region.

Redeem a 12-digit voucher on PS5
- Open PlayStation Store.
- Press Triangle to open the Store menu.
- Choose More, then Redeem Code.
- Enter the 12-digit code and select Redeem.
A valid game or add-on voucher applies its content to the account, after which you can download it. Redeem it on the account you intend to use: the voucher must match that account’s region, can be used only once, and funds or content cannot be transferred between accounts. Some subscription vouchers may require a valid payment method.
Apply a 10-digit discount code at checkout
Add eligible items to the PlayStation Store cart, then enter the 10-digit discount code in the cart. Sony lists exclusions: discount codes cannot be used for subscription services, preorders, another discount code in the same purchase, or more than one purchase. Check the offer’s own terms and the cart total before completing payment.

If redeemed content is missing
First confirm that you are signed in to the same account that redeemed the code. Sony’s recommended recovery steps are to restart the console, then sign out and back in. If the item still does not appear, check your transaction history in Account Management. The account matters because redeemed content cannot be transferred to another account.
