To download a game you already own, open your account’s game library on PS5, PS4, the web, or PlayStation App and select the download option. Remote downloads work only when the account and console are set up for them.
Find a game in PlayStation Store
On the Store, use Search to look for a specific title or browse categories to explore. The US Store navigation lists Latest, Collections, Deals, Subscriptions, and Browse; the exact layout and labels may vary as the interface changes. You can also use the Store on a console, on the web, or in PlayStation App. Explore the PlayStation Store.
If you have not bought a game yet, select it in the Store and follow the purchase prompts. To download a game you already own, use the library steps below. A wishlist can help you keep track of titles, but it is not required to download a game.
Download a purchased game
Choose the steps for the device you are using. Make sure you are signed in to the PlayStation account that owns the game.

On PS5
- From Games home, open Game Library > Your Collection.
- Select the game, then choose Download.
- Wait for installation to begin. Some games let you play or copy part of the game while the rest installs.
On PS4
- Open Library > Purchased.
- Select the game, then choose Download.
- Installation starts automatically.
On the web
- Sign in to PlayStation Store with the account that owns the game.
- Select your avatar, then open Game Library > Purchased.
- Choose the game and select Download. On mobile web, select the download icon.
In PlayStation App
- Open Game Library, then select Purchased.
- Choose the game and select Download to Console.
For this App method, your console must be linked to the app. Follow Sony’s download instructions if you need the current setup details.
Download an add-on
Add-ons are separate items from the base game. Find the game in your library and use the route for your platform:

- PS5: Open the game’s Add-Ons section in the library, select the add-on, and choose Download.
- PS4: Select the game in Library > Purchased, choose PlayStation Store > Your Add-Ons, then select the arrow beside the add-on.
- PlayStation App: Select the game in Game Library > Purchased, open Add-Ons, and choose Download to Console.
Start a download remotely
A web or App download command starts a download on your console rather than downloading the game to your phone or computer. For remote downloads, Sony requires a PS5 signed in with the account that owns the game, or a PS4 activated as that account’s primary PS4. For PlayStation App downloads, the console also needs to be linked to the app.
Automatic downloads must be configured for the console to begin downloading while it is in rest mode. If they are not configured, Sony says the download starts the next time the console is turned on. Console menus can change between software versions, so use the current system settings to check rest-mode and automatic-download options.

Choose the right console version
Some PS4 games can be upgraded to a digital PS5 version, but eligibility depends on the individual game; a PS4 purchase does not automatically include a PS5 version. If you own both versions, Sony says you can switch between them on PS5 using the game’s options button. Check the game’s Store listing or its support information for its specific upgrade terms.
If a purchased game is missing
First check that you are signed in to the account used to purchase the game, then look in that account’s library. If you still cannot find a game or add-on, check your transaction history to confirm the purchase. Sony also provides separate guidance for download troubleshooting and missing add-ons.

Reinstall a game or manage storage
Uninstalling a game to free up space does not remove it from your purchased library: Sony UK says purchased games remain in the online library and can be reinstalled. PlayStation games can be downloaded to console storage or, where supported, a compatible external hard drive. Check Sony’s guidance for your console and drive before relying on external storage.
