Scyther appears at night in Wild Zone 13, which unlocks after Main Mission 14, “Reaching Rank E.” To evolve it into Scizor, give it a Metal Coat and trade it to another player. The Mega Dimension DLC adds a separate route to Kleavor using Black Augurite.
Where to find Scyther
- Complete Main Mission 14: Reaching Rank E to unlock Wild Zone 13. The location and unlock requirement are reported by PowerPyx’s Scyther location guide.
- Advance the time to night. After enough story progress, you can rest on a bench to move time forward; Nintendo’s tips describe this time-advancing feature. A bench outside a Pokémon Center is one recommended way to do it. Nintendo’s tips for Pokémon Legends: Z-A
- Enter Wild Zone 13 and search for Scyther. The cited location guide reports that it does not appear there during the day.
How to evolve Scyther into Scizor
Scyther evolves into Scizor when it is traded to another player while holding a Metal Coat. Simply using the Metal Coat on Scyther does not trigger this evolution. The trade method and the acquisition options below are reported in PowerPyx’s Metal Coat guide.
- Obtain a Metal Coat. The guide reports these base-game sources:
- Side Mission 101: Steadfast as Steel.
- Side Mission 114: A Feather from Skarmory. The guide says this mission becomes available after Main Mission 35: Reaching Rank A.
- Postgame purchase: the guide reports that one Metal Coat can be bought for ₽4,980 from an NPC inside Racine Construction after Main Mission 39, “The Infinite Z-A Royale.”
- Give the Metal Coat to Scyther to hold.
- Trade Scyther to another player and complete the trade; it evolves into Scizor through the trade.
- If you want to keep Scizor, arrange a trade-back with the other player.
These Metal Coat sources have story or mission prerequisites, so the item may not be available through every route early in your playthrough.
How to evolve Scyther into Kleavor
With the Mega Dimension DLC, Scyther has a distinct evolution into Kleavor: use a Black Augurite on it. This is an item-use evolution, not the Metal Coat trade method.
