First identify which “relic” system you mean
The name is ambiguous. The base game’s progression material is called a Wyrmslife Crystal. A separate non-official guide describes unidentified Relics or Spoils in a Norgan-based Dark Arisen system. They are not interchangeable currencies, and a farming route for one does not help with the other.

When Wyrmslife Crystals become part of the campaign
Progress to the campaign stage involving Flickering Shadows. GameSpot’s March 2024 guide identifies this quest as the point where collecting crystals becomes a main objective and names Ambrosius as the NPC who requests them. Before that point, you may encounter dragons, but you should not interpret every early sighting as the start of the crystal objective.
Once the quest is active, check your quest requirements and inventory after each dragon encounter. The quest stage tells you whether you need more crystals; it does not establish a universal drop rate or a guaranteed number from every dragon.
Prepare before leaving on a farming run
Start by checking the exact item name in your inventory and the current objective in the quest log. This prevents spending time on the wrong system or assuming that an unrelated dragon encounter will satisfy Ambrosius’s request. Make a note of your crystal total before departing, then check it again after each encounter. A simple written log of location, world state and award is more useful than relying on memory when several guides describe overlapping areas.
Decide whether you are making a northern or southern circuit. A northern trip can combine the Harve-area reports with Ancient Battleground. A southern trip can combine the Battahl location south of Luz with Dragonsbreath Tower and, if your current progression allows access, Agamen Volcanic Island. You do not need to commit to every listed site in one outing; the locations are a checklist, not a confirmed rotation.
Keep a reserve in mind before visiting the Dragonforged. Crystals are needed for the campaign objective as well as purchases, so buying a travel item during an unfinished objective can leave you short. If you are traveling with a placed Portcrystal, remember that the official manual excerpt limits you to ten placed Portcrystals at one time.

Two March 2024 guides overlap on several sites but describe some locations differently. Use the combined list as a checklist, then confirm what is present in your current save and version.

These reports do not establish a universal respawn timer. A cleared location may be empty, and a dragon reported at one stage may appear later or under different conditions in another version.

- Activate the relevant quest stage. Reach Flickering Shadows and confirm Ambrosius’s request before investing time in a long route.
- Choose a small cluster of reported sites. For a northern circuit, check the Harve ruins and the route toward Checkpoint Rest Town, then Ancient Battleground. For a southern circuit, check the Battahl location south of Luz, Dragonsbreath Tower and, if accessible, Agamen Volcanic Island.
- Record the world state. Note which site has a dragon, which has already been cleared and how many crystals were actually awarded. This prevents you from mistaking an empty location for a permanent removal.
- Defeat the dragon when possible. The dated GameSpot report associates the larger 10–20-crystal result with a defeated dragon. If the dragon escapes, the same guide reports one or two crystals.
- Loot and check your inventory immediately. Confirm that the item is a Wyrmslife Crystal and that the quest count changed. Do not rely on a remembered total from a previous encounter.
- Move to the next reported site. Because no verified respawn schedule is established, route planning is more reliable than waiting at one location for a promised timer.
- Spend only after checking your remaining requirement. The same material is used for campaign progress and Dragonforged services, so spending crystals before the quest is complete can delay the objective.

How to make the route efficient
Use the nearest confirmed site as your next stop instead of crossing the entire map for a location that may be empty. If a Harve-area check produces nothing, continue to Ancient Battleground rather than repeatedly revisiting the same ruin. On a southern run, check the Battahl and tower reports in one direction, then decide whether the volcanic-island trip is worthwhile based on access and your recorded results.
Separate “not present” from “not yet checked.” Write down the approach you used, because broad labels such as “south of Luz” or “the path between Harve Village and Checkpoint Rest Town” can cover more than one trail. If another guide uses a slightly different landmark, search the surrounding area rather than assuming the reports contradict each other.
Do not build a schedule around a guessed number of days, rests or reloads. Neither cited guide supplies a guaranteed timer. If you need crystals for the active objective, check several reported sites during normal travel and return later only after confirming a change in your world state.

The same guide says the Dragonforged can perform the final upgrade on weapons or armor after the item has received its blacksmith upgrades. The crystal cost for that service is not stated in the cited material, so do not infer one from the purchase prices above.
If you are choosing between a purchase and quest progress, verify the exact amount Ambrosius still requests first. A Ferrystone costs three crystals in the dated listing, while a Portcrystal costs 20, so an apparently small purchase can matter when your remaining total is low. Treat the displayed Dragonforged menu as the authority for your version.

Fast travel and Portcrystals while farming
Capcom’s official manual excerpt describes the basic relationship: “Use of a Ferrystone will instantly transport you to the location of a Portcrystal.” It also says you may have up to ten placed Portcrystals at one time, and that permanent town Portcrystals must be interacted with once before becoming destinations. These points come from an excerpt because the manual page itself was unavailable.
Travel planning therefore matters. A placed Portcrystal near a route can reduce the distance between reported dragon areas, but placing one consumes one of the ten available placed slots. Keep the slot limit in mind before scattering crystals across temporary stops. Confirm that a town crystal has been activated before expecting it to appear as a destination.
PC Gamer reported that a June 2026 patch added an Eternal Ferrystone, added Portcrystals at Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town and Volcanic Island Camp, and made one Portcrystal a Monster Culling quest reward. This is secondary patch reporting. Check your current game’s inventory, quest rewards and map rather than assuming every installation has the same fast-travel layout.
Why a reported dragon may not be there
The location is from an older guide
The encounter lists were published in March 2024. Later patches or a different quest state may change availability. Check another reported site instead of waiting indefinitely.
The guide uses a broad landmark
“Harve Ruins,” “the path between Harve Village and Checkpoint Rest Town” and “south of Luz” describe areas rather than a single coordinate. Search the surrounding approach, not just one map marker.
The encounter was quest-related or random
Melve and Vernworth are specifically described as quest-related or later random appearances in the PowerPyx report. They should not be treated as fixed farming points.
