In Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Mode, the Legendary Coyote roams Scarlett Meadows in Lemoyne, near the Old Mill and northwest of Rhodes. Find and inspect the clues in its territory with Eagle Eye, then be ready to shoot quickly: the coyote may bolt as soon as it appears.
Where to find the Legendary Coyote
Search the Legendary Coyote’s hunting grounds in Scarlett Meadows, northwest of Rhodes and southeast of the Old Mill. RDR2.org’s map reference places the area just west of the “R” in “Scarlett.” These landmarks narrow the search to the same part of Lemoyne; look for the territory boundary as you approach.

These directions are for the Story Mode Legendary Coyote. Red Dead Online has separate legendary coyote varieties, with different locations and mechanics.
How to track and hunt it
- Enter the marked territory. Ride into the hunting grounds. The game should notify you that you have entered legendary-animal territory and need to find and inspect clues. If it says the area is too busy, leave, rest, and return.
- Search with Eagle Eye. Activate Eagle Eye to spot highlighted clues, inspect each one, and follow the trail. PowerPyx describes three clue sets as the usual sequence; follow the in-game prompts, which guide you through the trail.
- Get ready before the final clue. The coyote is skittish and may flee when discovered. Have a powerful rifle ready—RDR2.org recommends a rifle such as the Rolling Block Rifle—and take your shot promptly.
- Skin the animal and collect its parts. Weapon choice does not affect the quality of legendary-animal parts, according to RDR2.org’s general legendary-animal guidance. You do not need to preserve a normal pelt rating by choosing a particular weapon.
Where to take the pelt and fang
- Legendary Coyote Pelt: Take it to a Trapper, who can use it to craft unique garments.
- Legendary Coyote Fang: Take it to a Fence to craft the Coyote Fang Trinket. GameSpot’s 2019 guide says the trinket increases Dead Eye XP by 10%.
What if you lose the pelt?
Rockstar Games’ 2018 Red Dead Redemption 2 Quick Tips says: “If you misplace a legendary animal pelt out in the wild, it will automatically be delivered to the Trapper.” You can still visit the Trapper to use the pelt for garment crafting.

Does this coyote hunt count toward 100% completion?
PowerPyx reports that killing five Legendary Animals is required for 100% completion. Its guide does not establish that the Legendary Coyote specifically must be one of those five, so treat this hunt as an available legendary-animal activity rather than an individually mandatory requirement.
