The independent catalogue distinguishes animals it considers directly visible from those it identifies through close analysis, and separately includes tracker-reported entries without a single pinned frame. Mount Kalaga: parkland
Official material points to deer and a big cat in the Mount Kalaga area. The region is also described in connection with hunting and fishing, but that does not establish which species appear there or confirm the final game’s activity mechanics.
Leonida Keys: coast and water
Use coastal and underwater scenes as clues for marine wildlife. The reported material includes sea turtles, fish, an eel, and dolphins; it does not provide exact encounter points or prove that each animal is logged by the same system.

Vice City and developed areas
Preview reporting and secondary coverage associate dogs, cats, and iguanas with urban settings. Treat that as a broad search suggestion, not a promise that any particular neighborhood has a reliable spawn.
How do I identify animals in GTA 6?
For now, identify sightings by evidence strength rather than assuming every fan label is exact. Rockstar’s Extended Look announcement says its footage was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. That authenticates the footage as game capture; it does not verify every species interpretation made by preview writers or frame-by-frame cataloguers. - Reported from close analysis: a secondary guide identifies an animal from a frame that may be difficult to distinguish. Keep the identification provisional.
- Tracker-reported or speculative: a fan list includes the animal without a clear pinned official frame, or draws on leaked development material. Do not count it as confirmed.
Be especially cautious with the large cat: descriptions use names such as panther, cougar, or mountain lion. Until Rockstar names it or the retail game supplies a species label, “big cat” is the safest identification.
Is there an animal checklist or compendium?
Preview coverage says players can study animals and add species to a checklist; it also describes interaction options for dogs. Those reports do not establish the retail game’s controls, whether every animal can be studied, what qualifies as a logged sighting, or what completion requires. Wait for the released game to confirm the menu path and rules rather than relying on an assumed button prompt.

How many animal species are in GTA 6?
There is no authoritative confirmed total in the available Rockstar material. A TechRadar article dated October 1, 2026 reported 170 species and attributed the number to a Game Informer cover story, but the underlying primary wording and Rockstar confirmation are not established here. It is therefore a reported figure, not a count Rockstar has confirmed. TechRadar’s report describes that attribution.
When can this become a complete location guide?
Rockstar’s store lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with a November 19, 2026 release date. Until the retail game can be checked, claims about every species, exact locations, and checklist completion remain provisional.
