How to Find and Redeem Nintendo eShop Game Deals

Use Nintendo’s Sales and Deals section to check current game offers, then choose the purchase or redemption method that fits your account, region and available funds.

Find games in Nintendo’s official Sales and Deals section, then open the exact game listing to check its current price, offer terms and end date. To complete the purchase, use an available payment method, apply eligible Gold Points if you have them, or redeem a compatible download code. Offers and payment choices can vary by title and region, so confirm the details for your Nintendo Account before paying.

How to find Nintendo eShop deals

  1. Open Nintendo’s official Sales and Deals section. Start with Nintendo’s own deals destination rather than relying on an old sale roundup or a search result that may describe an expired offer. Nintendo Support links to this destination, making it a useful starting point for checking current promotions.
  2. Search or browse for the exact game. Nintendo eShop supports keyword searches and browsing with filters. If you know the title, search for it directly; if you are exploring, use the available browsing options. Search carefully when a series has several games or editions, so you do not mistake one listing for another.
  3. Open the game’s product details page. Check that the listing is for the right game and version, then read the displayed price and promotional terms. The game page is the place to verify the offer rather than assuming that a price mentioned elsewhere still applies.
  4. Check the offer window. If the listing gives an end date, make sure it has not passed and that you can complete the purchase before the offer ends. A game’s price and availability can change. If you do not see an end date or cannot confirm the terms, do not infer one from an older announcement.
  5. Compare the final cost and purchase route. If considering a retailer-issued download code, verify its price, account-region compatibility and redemption terms before buying. Do not assume a code is cheaper or usable with every Nintendo Account region. Compare the amount you will actually pay, not just a headline price.

Deal listings are dynamic. No specific discounted game, price, discount percentage or end date is confirmed in this guide, so use the live listing as the authority for an offer you are considering. Recheck the listing when you are ready to buy, especially if you found the deal through an older roundup or a retailer page.

A quick way to evaluate an offer

Before checkout, confirm four details in order: the exact title and version; the current price on its Nintendo listing; the offer terms and any end date shown; and the payment route you plan to use. If you are comparing a direct eShop purchase with a retailer code, add region compatibility and the retailer’s complete price to that checklist. This avoids comparing an active eShop offer with an old third-party price or a code that cannot be redeemed by your account.

There is no reliable universal “best deal” without those details. The lowest displayed number may not represent the lowest usable cost if a code has different terms, the account region is incompatible, or your payment options differ. When the listing and offer terms are unclear, pause and verify them instead of relying on assumptions.

What to check before you buy

Price and offer terms

Use the price shown on the exact product listing, not a figure copied from an older article or a third-party post. Look for the terms attached to the offer, including any stated end date. If you cannot confirm those details on the current listing, you cannot reliably tell whether the offer is still active. A past promotion does not establish that the same title is discounted now, or that the price will last until a particular date.

Compare like with like. Make sure you are looking at the same game and version when comparing two listings, and identify whether the price you are considering applies to the digital purchase you want. The available purchase options and promotional terms can vary by title and region, so the listing for your intended purchase matters more than a general sale headline.

Region and account compatibility

Availability and payment methods can vary by title and region. A download code bought elsewhere may have regional restrictions, so check that it works with the country or region associated with your Nintendo Account. The seller’s listing should give the applicable terms; if compatibility is not clear, do not assume that a code from another region will work.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Gold Points also have a currency restriction: points can be used only in countries that share the currency in which they were earned. That means a balance earned in one currency is not automatically usable in a country that uses a different one. Consider this alongside the account region before counting points toward a purchase.

What kind of offer you are using

A discounted listing lowers the listed price for the game during the offer period. Gold Points, when eligible, can offset part of a digital purchase. An eShop card adds funds to help pay for a purchase; it does not reduce the game’s price. A retailer-issued download code redeems specified digital content rather than adding general funds. These options affect checkout in different ways and should not be treated as interchangeable discounts.

For a fair comparison, identify what each option actually provides. A direct sale changes the price displayed for the game. Points can contribute toward an eligible digital game or DLC purchase, if the checkout offers that choice and the points remain valid. A card funds a payment, while a download code is for the content named by the code. Their value depends on the listing, eligibility and compatibility—not simply on the fact that one is described as a deal.

  • Nintendo eShop Digital Cards are redeemable only through the Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Switch, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

How to buy a game through Nintendo eShop

  1. Find the game in eShop. Search by title or browse, then open its product details page. Check the title and version before proceeding.
  2. Choose the available purchase option. Follow the options shown for that title and your region. Not every game or region necessarily presents identical choices.
  3. Review the checkout details. Confirm the game, displayed price and any promotional terms before completing the transaction. If you arrived from a sale page, ensure the checkout is for the same offer you intended to use.
  4. Apply eligible Gold Points, if offered. If you have a nonzero balance and the purchase qualifies, eShop may show a “Redeem Points” option. Choose how many points to use. You do not have to assume that every digital purchase is eligible; use the checkout option as confirmation.
  5. Pay any remaining amount. Use the available funds or another payment method supported for your region and purchase. If you need to add funds with a card, follow the Nintendo eShop Card process below.
  6. Confirm the purchase. Review the final details and confirm. Following confirmation starts the download.

Not every title or transaction necessarily offers the same checkout options. Follow the choices displayed for the specific game; if a points option does not appear, do not assume the purchase qualifies. If your planned payment method is unavailable, review the choices offered for your region rather than expecting the same options another account or title might show.

Using points and another payment method together

When eligible Gold Points are offered, Nintendo’s checkout flow lets you select how many points to apply. The points can cover part of the purchase, and you pay any remainder with available funds or another supported method. Check the final checkout amount before confirming so you know what remains due. Points are not a way to bypass the offer’s terms or regional restrictions, and the checkout must present the points option for that transaction.

Can you still earn Nintendo Gold Points?

No. Nintendo ended the ability to earn My Nintendo Gold Points at 9:30 p.m. PDT on March 24, 2025. Older Nintendo explainers that describe earning Gold Points on purchases predate that change and should not be read as current earning instructions. Do not plan a purchase on the assumption that it will create a new Gold Points balance.

Can you still use points you already earned?

Yes, previously earned Gold Points remain redeemable until they expire. Nintendo Support says they expire on the last day of the month 12 months after they were earned. For example, points earned in a given month expire on the final day of the corresponding month one year later. Check your balance and expiry information before planning to use points, particularly if you are waiting for a later sale.

The cutoff for earning and the expiration schedule are separate rules: the March 24, 2025 cutoff stopped new earning, but it did not immediately erase points already in an account. Any remaining balance is still subject to its own expiration date. A balance that has expired cannot be counted toward a purchase, so verify its validity as well as the amount.

What purchases can points cover?

Gold Points can offset eligible digital game and downloadable-content purchases. They are distinct from Platinum Points. The checkout must offer points for the purchase, and points can be used only in countries sharing the currency in which they were earned. A change to a country using a different currency may therefore affect whether you can spend a balance.

  • Digital Card balances can be shared across Nintendo Switch, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS family of systems, but may only be used on a single Nintendo eShop account.

When deciding whether to use points on a sale game, check both questions at checkout: does the transaction offer “Redeem Points,” and are your points still valid and usable for your account’s currency? If both conditions are met, choose how many points to apply and review the remaining amount. Do not confuse the ability to redeem an existing balance with the discontinued ability to earn new Gold Points.

How to add funds with a Nintendo eShop Card

An eShop card is a way to fund checkout, not a sale or discount. Nintendo’s documented purchase flow lets you enter the card code and add funds while completing a purchase. It can help pay for a game you have selected, but it does not change the price shown on that game’s listing.

  1. Choose Nintendo eShop Card when that payment option is available during checkout.
  2. Enter the card’s 16-character code. Take care to enter the characters exactly as printed.
  3. Confirm the purchase. Follow the on-screen steps to apply the funds and complete the transaction.

Payment choices vary by region. If the card option or code is not accepted, check that you selected the intended option, entered the code accurately and are using a card compatible with your region. The card adds payment funds; it does not change the listed price of the game. Keep the card distinct from a game download code: the eShop card code is for funds, while a download code is for specific digital content.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When a card makes sense

Use an eShop Card when you need funds to complete a purchase and the card payment option is available to you. It is not a substitute for checking whether the game is on sale, and buying a card by itself does not lock in a promotional price. Check the game listing and offer window first, then make sure the card can be used for the purchase in your region. If comparing card funding with another supported checkout method, compare the final amount due and the applicable regional terms.

How to redeem a Nintendo download code online

For online redemption, you need a Nintendo Account that has already accessed eShop on a Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch. A retailer-issued download code is different from an eShop card code: the download code redeems content, while the card code adds funds.

  1. Sign in to Nintendo’s code-redemption page with the Nintendo Account that should receive the content.
  2. Confirm the displayed account. Make sure it is the intended account before proceeding; the redemption is tied to the account you use.
  3. Enter the 16-digit download code and continue.
  4. Review and confirm redemption. Nintendo says a confirmation email is sent after completion.

Before buying a code from a retailer, confirm that the content is the one you want, that the code is intended for your account’s region and that its price and terms are current. The existence of an online redemption process does not mean every retailer code is compatible with every Nintendo Account. Compare the verified total cost with the direct eShop listing before choosing a route.

  • The perfect gift for anyone who loves to play—including you. Choose from over 1,000 new, classic and indie games – delivered directly to your Nintendo Switch, Wii U or Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

If redemption does not work

  • The account has not accessed eShop on Switch 2 or Switch: Visit eShop on one of those consoles with that Nintendo Account, then try online redemption again. This prior access is part of Nintendo’s online redemption requirement.
  • The wrong account is signed in: Check the account displayed on the redemption page before entering or confirming a code. Use the account that should receive the content.
  • The code is mistyped: Re-enter the 16 digits carefully, distinguishing similar characters where applicable. Confirm that you are entering the download code rather than an eShop Card code.
  • The code may not match your account region: Review the retailer’s regional terms and compatibility before purchase; a code is not guaranteed to work across regions.
  • You have not completed confirmation: Continue through the page and confirm redemption. Nintendo says it sends a confirmation email after completion, so look for that confirmation once the process succeeds.

Choosing between a sale, points, a card and a download code

Option What it does What to verify
Discounted eShop listing Offers the game at the price displayed for the promotion. Exact title, current price, offer terms and end date.
Eligible Gold Points Offsets an eligible digital purchase using previously earned points. Remaining balance, expiry, purchase eligibility and currency compatibility.
Nintendo eShop Card Adds funds used toward checkout. Card code entry and regional payment availability; it does not lower the game’s price.
Retailer-issued download code Redeems the specified digital content to an account. Verified total cost, code terms and compatibility with your account region.

There is no universally best method. The right choice depends on the live offer, your available points or balance, the payment options shown in your region and whether a code is compatible with your account. A practical order is to confirm the game and active listing first, then compare the final price and the payment method you can actually use.

A simple decision checklist

  • If the official listing has an active offer: Confirm the title, price and terms, then check which payment options appear for your region.
  • If you have Gold Points: Check the balance, expiry and currency eligibility; apply them only if the checkout offers the option.
  • If you need funds: Use an eShop Card only if it is an available, region-compatible payment path, remembering it does not discount the title.
  • If you are considering a retailer code: Compare its verified total price with the eShop listing and confirm account-region compatibility and redemption terms before buying.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Relying on an old sale announcement: Promotions change, so check the current game listing rather than assuming a previously reported price still applies.
  • Confusing an eShop card with a discount: A card provides funds for payment; the listing price remains the price of the game.
  • Expecting to earn new Gold Points: Earning ended at 9:30 p.m. PDT on March 24, 2025. Only eligible points earned before the cutoff may remain available to redeem.
  • Waiting too long to use an existing points balance: Points expire on the last day of the month 12 months after earning, so check each balance’s validity.
  • Assuming points work in every country: Their use is limited to countries sharing the currency in which they were earned.
  • Buying a code before checking region terms: Confirm account compatibility and total cost before purchasing from a retailer.
  • Redeeming to the wrong account: Verify the signed-in account on Nintendo’s redemption page before confirming a code.
  • Mixing up code types: An eShop Card code adds funds; a download code redeems specified content. Follow the matching checkout or redemption flow.
  • Assuming every title has the same checkout options: Purchase choices vary, so rely on the options shown for the specific game, region and account.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find Nintendo eShop deals?

Start at Nintendo’s official Sales and Deals section, search or browse for the exact game, and open its product details page. Verify the current price, offer terms and any end date on that listing; promotions can change.

Can I use Gold Points on a sale game?

You can use previously earned Gold Points on eligible digital purchases if the checkout offers “Redeem Points.” Check that the points have not expired and that they are usable in a country sharing the currency in which they were earned.

Can I still earn Nintendo Gold Points?

No. Nintendo ended Gold Points earning at 9:30 p.m. PDT on March 24, 2025. Points earned previously may still be redeemed until their individual expiry dates.

How do I add money with a Nintendo eShop Card?

During checkout, choose Nintendo eShop Card if it is available, enter the card’s 16-character code, and follow the confirmation steps. The card adds funds; it does not lower the game’s listed price. Payment choices vary by region.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How do I redeem an eShop download code online?

Sign in to Nintendo’s code-redemption page with the account that should receive the content, confirm the displayed account, enter the 16-digit download code, continue and confirm redemption. The account must previously have accessed eShop on Switch 2 or Switch. Nintendo says it sends a confirmation email after completion.

What is the difference between an eShop Card code and a download code?

An eShop Card code adds funds toward checkout. A download code redeems the specified digital content to the Nintendo Account you use. Check the account and region terms before redeeming a download code.

The Bottom Line

For a Nintendo eShop deal, verify the exact game, current price and offer window on Nintendo’s official listing. Then choose a payment route that works for your region: eligible existing Gold Points, available funds or another supported method, or a compatible download code. Gold Points stopped accruing on March 24, 2025, while eShop Cards add funds rather than discounting a game.
