To spawn a conditional ace in ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE, check the missing entry under Data Viewer → Campaign Data → Campaign Assault Records, replay its mission on Veteran difficulty or higher, meet that mission’s specific trigger, shoot down the ace, and complete the sortie. One reported dependency matters for completionists: defeat Shadow 24 in Mission 18 before trying to spawn the Lux Lunae 22nd Unit in Mission 28.
How ace spawns and Assault Records work
Launch-week guides count 83 campaign Assault Records: 52 entries they describe as mostly scripted special units and 31 conditional named aces. These are guide-reported counts, not a roster published by Bandai Namco. The publisher’s official pages establish the game and campaign context, but do not list the hidden ace triggers. PowerPyx and KeenGamer report the same overall division.

The conditional aces are not simply encountered by playing each mission normally. The guides report that they require Veteran, Elite, or Ace difficulty, plus a mission-specific action or performance condition. Veteran is the lowest reported qualifying difficulty. Lower settings may suit regular campaign progress, but do not meet the reported gate for this group.
Use this route to unlock a missing ace
- Check the log: open Data Viewer → Campaign Data → Campaign Assault Records and note which entries are missing. Use the empty entry to identify the mission to replay.
- Set the difficulty: choose Veteran, Elite, or Ace before launching the mission. Veteran is the least demanding reported eligible setting.
- Meet the mission’s trigger: plan around the relevant condition rather than assuming the ace will appear during ordinary mission progress.
- Engage the named aircraft: once the ace spawns, prioritize it if destroying the last required target could end the encounter.
- Finish the sortie: complete the mission after the kill so the record registers. Do not quit, abandon, or restart before the sortie ends.

Mission 28 has a reported prerequisite
Before attempting to spawn Lux Lunae’s 22nd Unit in Mission 28, defeat Shadow 24 in Mission 18. PowerPyx and KeenGamer report this cross-mission dependency. If the Mission 28 ace does not appear after you perform its trigger, check the Mission 18 record and confirm Shadow 24 was downed there. PowerPyx · KeenGamer

Plan replays around the trigger, not just the ace
Mission conditions call for different approaches: some reward fast kills, some require protecting mission assets, and others depend on a flight path or clearing particular aircraft. Read the trigger before takeoff and account for the mission’s timing and objectives. The shared rule is to satisfy the condition, shoot down the ace when it appears, and then finish the sortie.

Launch guides report a special aircraft paint scheme for each conditional ace and associate completing the set with the A Record of Rivalry achievement or trophy. The game’s record screen is therefore useful both for locating gaps and tracking the collection. These reward details are reported by PowerPyx.
