How to Find and Track Nintendo eShop Games You Want to Buy

By VGSources Team 10 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The most reliable way to find a Nintendo Switch game is to browse the Nintendo eShop on your Switch or Switch 2, then verify the live listing and price in your regional storefront before buying. For a separate tracking route, Nintendo of America documents a Wish List in the Nintendo Store app: tap the heart icon on a product and the app can notify you when Wish List items go on sale. Nintendo does not state that those app alerts cover every digital Nintendo eShop game, so treat the app as a product-listing watchlist rather than a guaranteed eShop wishlist.

What you can use to discover and track games

There are two official Nintendo routes, and they solve different parts of the problem:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Nintendo eShop on a console or, in the United Kingdom, Nintendo’s website: best for discovering digital releases, browsing categories, opening game pages and purchasing a title.
  • Nintendo Store app Wish List: useful for saving Nintendo product listings and receiving the sale notifications Nintendo documents for Wish List items.

Do not assume these are one shared list. The cited Nintendo pages do not establish that a Wish List in the US Nintendo Store app synchronizes with an eShop list, nor that the same features appear in every country. Your account region, storefront and the game’s local listing determine what you can see and buy.

Find games in the Nintendo eShop

Use the eShop on Switch or Switch 2

Nintendo identifies the eShop as available on both Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. Open the eShop on the console tied to the Nintendo Account you use for purchases, then browse the sections offered in your region. A game’s eShop page is the place to confirm its current price and purchase availability.

#1 Best Overall

Storefront organization changes by region. A category visible in one country may be named differently, appear in a different order or contain a different set of games elsewhere. If you are looking for a particular release, use your own country’s eShop rather than relying on a screenshot, sale article or category list from another market.

Browse the categories documented by Nintendo UK

Nintendo UK’s eShop guide groups discovery around several practical categories:

  • Recent releases: a quick way to see newly listed games.
  • Top deals: a starting point for finding discounted products.
  • Free games and apps: titles and software that can be downloaded without a purchase price.
  • Free demos: trial versions where a publisher has made one available.
  • DLC: additional content for games you already own or are considering.

These headings are documented on the UK storefront page, not promised as a universal layout. Use them as a model for what to look for in your own regional store, while treating the live categories and listings on your screen as authoritative.

Open the individual game page before deciding

A category tile is a discovery aid, not a purchase record. Open the game’s full page to inspect the current price, edition and any available demo or downloadable content. Nintendo UK explicitly tells shoppers to check Nintendo eShop or the individual game pages for the latest pricing information. That matters because a discount can end, a launch price can change, and a game can have multiple editions with different contents.

Find games through Nintendo’s website in the UK

Nintendo UK says its eShop can be accessed through the Switch console and through the Nintendo website. The website is useful when you want to browse on a larger screen or look up a title before using the console. Availability and prices are regional, so select the storefront for the country in which your Nintendo Account and console are used.

When you find a candidate on the website, record the exact title and edition, then open the same product in your regional eShop or game page at the time you are ready to buy. This prevents an older web page, a different country’s currency or an expired promotion from being mistaken for your current offer.

Save products in the Nintendo Store app Wish List

How to add an item

Nintendo of America’s Nintendo Store app page describes a Wish List. On a product page, tap the heart icon to save the item. The app page covers Nintendo products including games, hardware and merchandise, so the feature should be understood as a product Wish List rather than a promise that every digital eShop listing is supported.

  • The perfect gift for anyone who loves to play—including you. Choose from over 1,000 new, classic and indie games – delivered directly to your Nintendo Switch, Wii U or Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
  • Nintendo eShop Digital Cards are redeemable only through the Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Switch, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
  • Digital Card balances can be shared across Nintendo Switch, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS family of systems, but may only be used on a single Nintendo eShop account.

What sale notifications mean

Nintendo’s wording is: “You can even receive notifications when items on your Wish List go on sale!” This establishes that the app can send sale notifications for items saved to that Wish List. It does not establish that notifications are generated for every digital game sold through the Nintendo eShop, that all countries receive the same alerts, or that an eShop console list is synchronized with the app. If receiving an alert is important, check that the title appears as a product in the app and keep the app’s notifications enabled on your device.

Use the app as a supplement, not a complete eShop tracker

The safest workflow is to discover and verify a digital game in your regional eShop, then save the corresponding product in the app when it is available there. Keep the title, edition and region straight: a hardware bundle, physical product or merchandise listing can resemble a game listing but follow different purchase rules. Because Nintendo’s app description does not specify digital-eShop coverage, do not rely on the app alone to monitor every game you may want.

eShop on Switch or Switch 2 Browse and buy digital games, apps, demos, deals and DLC in the storefront. The cited eShop guide explains categories and pricing checks, but does not document Wish List sale alerts. Nintendo UK eShop website Browse eShop listings and game pages outside the console. The cited page does not document a wishlist alert feature. United Kingdom instructions and storefront. UK account, pricing and download instructions should not be generalized to another region.
Nintendo Store app Wish List Save Nintendo product listings by tapping the heart icon. Nintendo of America says Wish List items can trigger sale notifications. US Nintendo page. The page does not clarify whether alerts cover all digital eShop game listings or synchronize with an eShop list.

A dependable workflow for games you may buy later

1. Start with your regional storefront

Open the eShop on your Switch or Switch 2, or use the website if you are in the United Kingdom. Search or browse the current local listings. Regional storefronts are the only safe reference for whether a title is offered to your account and what currency and price apply.

2. Capture the exact product identity

Write down the game’s title as shown, along with the edition if the page presents more than one. This avoids confusing a base game with DLC, a bundle or a similarly named release. If you later use the Nintendo Store app, match the app product to this same title rather than saving the first result that merely looks similar.

3. Check the live game page

Before putting money aside, open the game page again and read the current price. Nintendo UK’s instruction to check Nintendo eShop or the individual game pages is especially important for sale purchases: an old deal may no longer be active when you return.

4. Add the matching app product when available

In the Nintendo Store app, tap the heart icon on the matching product. This gives you the app’s documented Wish List tracking and possible sale notification. It is an additional signal, not proof that the game’s eShop listing is being monitored.

5. Recheck before purchasing

When an alert arrives or you decide to buy, return to the regional eShop or game page. Confirm the edition, current price and any required downloadable content there. The live storefront, rather than a notification or saved tile, determines the transaction you are about to make.

How to get notified when a Nintendo Switch game you want goes on sale

If the product is supported in the Nintendo Store app, save it with the heart icon and allow the app to send notifications. Nintendo of America explicitly describes sale alerts for Wish List items. The alert is useful as a prompt to check the game, but you should still open the regional eShop page because the app documentation does not promise coverage of all digital eShop listings or establish that the alert price and your local storefront are identical.

For titles that do not appear as a matching app product, the official material cited here does not provide a universal Nintendo eShop game-wishlist alert system. Use the eShop’s current deal and release categories when you manually check, and verify each price on the individual game page. This is less automatic, but it avoids attributing an unsupported feature to Nintendo.

Buying from the Nintendo UK website and downloading to your console

The following requirements come from Nintendo UK’s purchase instructions and should be treated as UK-specific. Other regions can have different account and console rules.

Account and console preparation

  • You need a Nintendo Account linked to the console.
  • Before buying through the website, register that console as the active console for downloads by visiting Nintendo eShop on the device.

Automatic-download requirements

Nintendo UK lists four conditions for automatic downloads: the system must be updated, connected to the internet, configured with automatic downloads enabled and have enough available storage. If any condition is missing, a purchase may not download automatically even though the transaction succeeded.

When a download does not start

  1. Confirm that the Nintendo Account used for the purchase is the one linked to the intended console.
  2. Open Nintendo eShop on that console so it is registered as the active console for downloads, as required by the UK instructions.
  3. Install available system updates and reconnect the console to the internet.
  4. Check that automatic downloads are enabled if you expect the download to begin without manually starting it.
  5. Check free storage and make room if the game cannot be downloaded.

These checks address the documented UK setup. If your account is outside the UK, consult the support instructions shown for your own region instead of assuming the same registration terminology or process.

Keep price and region mistakes from derailing your list

Prices are time-sensitive

A sale notification, saved product or old article does not freeze a price. Nintendo UK directs customers to the eShop or game pages for the latest pricing information. Make that check immediately before purchase and note whether the page is showing a deal or the regular price.

Storefronts are not interchangeable

The cited browsing categories and purchase setup are from Nintendo UK, while the Wish List and sale-notification wording is from Nintendo of America. That split is significant: it proves the features on those specific regional pages, not automatic parity worldwide. A US app listing should not be treated as evidence of a UK alert, and a UK website instruction should not be presented as a universal console rule.

Do not confuse funding with tracking

Nintendo’s official printable Wish List names Nintendo eShop Cards. An eShop Card can be a way to fund a digital purchase after you have chosen a game, but it does not discover titles, save them for later or send sale alerts. Check the card’s current availability and regional compatibility before purchasing; the cited material does not establish stock or cross-region use.

Troubleshooting the most common tracking problems

The game is missing from a category

Categories and regional listings differ. Search your own storefront or open the game’s regional page directly rather than assuming that a UK “Recent releases” or “Top deals” entry must appear in another country.

The app does not show the digital game

Nintendo’s app description does not say that every digital eShop listing is included. If no matching product appears, continue using the regional eShop and its game page for discovery and price checks. Do not infer that the title is unavailable solely because it is absent from the app Wish List.

You received an alert but cannot find the same price

Open the current eShop or game page and check the region, edition and sale status. Nintendo’s pricing instruction makes the live page the final reference; an alert is a notification to investigate, not a guaranteed price lock.

The title appears twice

Compare the product descriptions and editions. One entry may represent a base game while another is DLC, a bundle or a different product type. Save the exact listing that matches what you intend to buy and verify it again at checkout.

The website purchase is complete but the console is idle

For the UK process, check account linkage, active-console registration, system updates, internet access, automatic-download settings and available storage. A failure in any one of those prerequisites can prevent an automatic download.

A simple decision rule

  • Need to discover what is available now? Browse the eShop on your Switch or Switch 2, or the Nintendo UK website if you are in the UK.
  • Need a documented sale notification? Save the matching product in the Nintendo Store app Wish List and enable notifications, while remembering that Nintendo does not define this as coverage of every digital eShop game.
  • Need the correct amount before paying? Open the current regional eShop or game page and check the live price.
  • Need to pay without using a card at checkout? Consider an eShop Card as funding, after confirming region and availability; it is not a tracking feature.

What Nintendo’s official information establishes

Nintendo’s current official pages support a clear but limited system: eShop browsing is available on Switch consoles, and Nintendo UK also provides web access; the UK storefront highlights recent releases, deals, free games and apps, demos and DLC; Nintendo of America documents a product Wish List with sale notifications; and Nintendo advises checking live eShop or game pages for prices. The app page does not establish universal digital-game wishlist coverage, cross-region parity or synchronization with an eShop list. Building your routine around those boundaries keeps your saved games useful without promising a feature Nintendo has not documented.
