To get a mount in Rune Slayer, reach level 20, complete the stable-master quest route involving Jimmy and Madonna in Ashenshire, then tame a pet that can be ridden. The exact quest and reward names may have changed; the route below reflects community references and a guide published April 3, 2025, so check current in-game prompts as you go.
Unlock the ability to mount
- Reach level 20. The available guides place the mount quest behind this level requirement.
- Talk to Jimmy the Stable Master. Take his mount-related quest. Pocket Gamer calls it “Jimmy’s Delivery,” while the community wiki describes it as Jimmy’s second quest, so follow the quest text shown in your game rather than relying on the label.
- Find Madonna in Ashenshire. Complete her part of the quest, then return to Jimmy. The community wiki names the reward “Novice Straddle”; Pocket Gamer describes receiving a saddle. Treat the name as version-sensitive and check your inventory and quest log.
This quest route is described by the Rune Slayer community wiki and Pocket Gamer’s April 3, 2025 guide. Both are unofficial references, not confirmation of the current live game’s exact wording.
Tame a pet you can ride
Unlocking the mount ability does not make every creature rideable. Choose a pet identified as mountable, then use the taming method described in the quest instructions: make the creature aggressive, hold out its preferred food, and wait for the attempt to succeed or fail. A failed attempt consumes the bait and makes the creature aggressive again, so you may need more food and another try.
The wiki’s quest page gives this taming sequence, while the community pet list identifies Deer and Wolf as mountable candidates. The wiki lists Apples for Deer and Raw Deer Meat for Wolf; verify the food in the current game because these details come from unofficial community pages and may be outdated.

Where to look for an early mount
| Pet | Reported location | Reported favorite food | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deer | Wilderness, north of Wayshire | Apples | Listed as mountable by the community wiki. |
| Wolf | Pinewood Thickets, south of Wayshire | Raw Deer Meat | Listed as mountable by the community wiki; Pocket Gamer describes it as a relatively easy option, a subjective characterization rather than a measured comparison. |
Locations are based on the community locations page; check in-game navigation and confirm that the animal is present before making the trip. The sources do not establish a complete current list of mountable pets or reliable speed and performance comparisons, so there is no supported basis for ranking these choices by riding speed.
