Start with the game’s end credits, then confirm the credit against official publisher or developer materials for the same release and language. If you need to identify who voiced a particular character, look for a source that explicitly connects the performer to that role; a cast list of names alone does not establish who played whom.
Start by identifying the exact version and language
Before searching, note the game’s full title and, where relevant, its platform, edition, release or version, and audio language. A remaster, regional release, or localized version may have different credits. Keep original-language performances distinct from dub performances: a performer credited for one language is not necessarily the performer in another.

Check the game’s credits and official materials
Read the end credits
Look through the game’s closing credits for headings such as Cast, Voice Cast, Voice Talent, or Voice Actors. Preserve the character and performer wording exactly as it appears. If the credits name performers but do not map them to characters, treat the individual character attribution as unconfirmed rather than guessing from voice resemblance.
Look for official credits outside the game
Check the publisher’s or developer’s official website, support pages, press materials, manual, and packaging. Some games publish online credits rather than listing every performer in the game. MobyGames’ standards accept credits in an in-game scroll, an accompanying manual, a developer website, or another official source associated with the game; see MobyGames Standards. Prefer an official source that matches the release and language you are investigating.

Capture evidence and use databases as cross-checks
- Save the source. Keep a screenshot of the relevant credits screen, a scan of the manual, or a link to a video showing the credits. Note the game release and, for video, the timestamp.
- Search a game-credit database. MobyGames organizes credits by game and performer, which can help you find a lead or compare transcriptions. Its standards encourage submitters to provide screenshots, scanned manual credits, or a video capturing the credits to help reviewers check entries; that is contribution guidance, not a guarantee that every game has a complete cast list. See MobyGames Standards.
- Cross-check IMDb carefully. IMDb can provide another cast listing, but its rules require an on-screen credit for voice-cast entries and exclude uncredited voice claims. Its guidance also notes that game credits may be localized, so a cast list for one version may not apply to another. See IMDb: Cast and Voice Credits and IMDb: Eligible Credits and Credit Verification.
IMDb’s eligibility policy is a rule for its database, not a universal definition of who performed work on a game. Therefore, an absent IMDb entry does not establish that an actor was uninvolved.
Judge what a listing actually verifies
A relevant game credit or official publisher/developer cast list is strong evidence that a performer was credited for that game release. A character attribution is strongest when the source explicitly connects that performer with that character. If a source lists names without roles, do not fill in the mapping from a fan wiki, a database entry alone, or a perceived vocal match.

| Source | What it can establish | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Game end credits | Who the game credits, and a character mapping when the credits show one. | Credits may differ by release or language; names alone do not identify a character’s performer. |
| Official publisher/developer material | Credits or a cast list for the release and language it identifies. | Confirm that the material applies to the version you are checking. |
| MobyGames | A useful game- or performer-indexed discovery and cross-checking lead. | Check the underlying official credit evidence; an entry is not itself a guarantee of completeness. |
| IMDb | Cast information that meets IMDb’s credit rules. | Its voice-credit policy excludes uncredited claims, and localized credits may differ. |
| SAG-AFTRA signatory search | Not a way to verify video-game cast listings. | SAG-AFTRA says its database excludes interactive-media projects because game titles are confidential. See SAG-AFTRA Signatory Search. |
Resolve missing or conflicting credits
If a name is missing from a database
Return to the game’s own credits and official materials. IMDb’s exclusion of uncredited voice claims means its missing entry is not proof that the performer did not work on the game. Likewise, a title’s absence from SAG-AFTRA’s signatory search does not settle whether a performer worked on it: the union states that the database does not include interactive-media projects because game titles are confidential.
If sources disagree
- Check that each source refers to the same game edition, release, platform or version, and language.
- Compare the underlying material, not just copied database entries. Give greater weight to a relevant official credit source than to an independently edited listing.
- Preserve the exact wording and evidence for each credit. If the evidence does not explicitly map a performer to the character, report the performer credit but leave that character attribution unconfirmed.
Keep voice acting distinct from other production work
Do not automatically describe someone listed for ADR, looping, background voices, dubbing, or performance capture as a character’s voice actor. These are distinct production roles, and IMDb categorizes some separately. Use the credit’s stated role rather than inferring a voice-performance credit from another production listing.

Quick Recap
A practical standard for a verified attribution
- Identify the exact game release and language.
- Locate an official credit source for that version.
- Confirm that the source connects the performer to the character, rather than merely listing both names.
- Save the credits evidence and note the release or timestamp.
- Use MobyGames or IMDb to discover and cross-check entries, not as a substitute for matching official evidence.
