Start with the tournament’s official website or tour event page. Open Tee Times, Pairings or Groupings, choose the round, and check the schedule’s time-zone label before converting anything. If the page offers a time-zone selector, set it to your location; otherwise, convert from the displayed zone using the offset in effect on the tournament date.
Where to find a player’s tee time
- Open the tournament’s official website or the tour’s event page. A syndicated schedule can be a useful backup, but verify its listing against the official page.
- Go to Tee Times, Pairings or Groupings, then select the correct round. A player’s time is round-specific, and schedules may be updated.
- Read the time-zone label or inspect the page’s Time Zone control. Do not assume the schedule uses the venue’s zone, your zone or a broadcaster’s zone.
- Note the round and date, then check the official listing again close to play for changes.
For example, a PGA TOUR page for The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale showed round and time-zone controls, with the zone set to UTC. That event took place July 16–19, 2026, so the page is an interface example—not a current schedule. The example shows why the label matters; it does not mean every tournament page has a time-zone selector. View the PGA TOUR tee-times page.
How to convert the listed time
First identify the schedule’s source time zone. Then find the difference between that zone and your local zone on the tournament date. Apply the difference to the listed time; if the result passes midnight, adjust the calendar date too.
When the schedule is in UTC
Add your local UTC offset, including its sign. For example, if your location is UTC−4 on the event date, 14:00 UTC becomes 10:00 local time. This is an arithmetic illustration, not a tournament tee time. UTC itself does not change for daylight saving time, but a location’s offset may. NIST’s UTC and local-time guidance explains why the local offset must be checked for the date.

When the schedule uses another time zone
Establish the source zone’s offset and your local zone’s offset for the event date, then calculate the difference between them. Do not treat abbreviations such as EST or PDT as fixed, year-round offsets: standard time and daylight time can have different UTC offsets. Local rules also vary by jurisdiction, and some places do not observe daylight saving time. NIST’s daylight-saving guidance describes US rules and exceptions.
Account for daylight saving time and date changes
Convert for the tournament date, not today’s date. NIST says US Eastern Time is UTC−5 during Eastern Standard Time and UTC−4 during Eastern Daylight Time. Those offsets apply to US Eastern Time; check the rules for your own location and the event date. NIST’s Local Time FAQs were updated October 11, 2024.

For 2026, NIST gives the US daylight-saving interval as March 8 at 2 a.m. local time through November 1 at 2 a.m. local time. This is US guidance for 2026, not a rule to apply automatically in other countries or in US locations with exceptions. Check NIST’s 2026 dates and regional details.
Always include the weekday and date when sharing a converted time, especially for an international event. A time late in the day in one zone may be on the previous or next calendar day where you are.

Use a time-zone selector or convert manually?
| Approach | What to check | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Official page’s time-zone selector | Confirm the selected zone and displayed round. A selector is available on the cited PGA TOUR example, but its availability and behavior are not established for every event. PGA TOUR example. | Use it when the official event page provides one and clearly labels the resulting time zone. |
| Manual conversion | Identify the schedule’s source zone and both locations’ offsets on the event date; preserve any date change. NIST UTC guidance; NIST local-time guidance. | Use it when there is no selector, or when you need to verify a displayed local time. |
Quick checks before relying on a tee time
- Right event and round: pairings and tee times differ by round.
- Visible source time zone: never infer it from the venue or a broadcast listing.
- Event-date offset: account for daylight-saving rules where applicable.
- Calendar date: include the weekday and date after conversion, particularly if the time crosses midnight.
- Current listing: recheck the official page near play because times, pairings and status can change.
