For a quick early supply of standard Smithing Stone [1], clear Limgrave Tunnels carefully and collect the scattered Limgrave and Weeping Peninsula pickups. Smithing Stone [2] is scarcer in those regions, so prioritize the listed cave and Castle Morne finds. For repeatable purchases of both tiers, later reach Liurnia, defeat the Crystalian in Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel, and give its Bell Bearing to the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold.
Which stones you need for ordinary weapons
This route is for standard Smithing Stone [1] and [2], used on ordinary weapons. A Smithing Table can use tier 1 stones to upgrade a weapon to +3; tier 2 stones extend standard upgrades to +6 with a blacksmith’s help, according to GamesRadar+’s location guide. Upgrading raises a weapon’s base damage and improves its attribute scaling, as GameSpot explains.

Somber Smithing Stones are a separate track for specialized unique weapons; they are not substitutes for standard stones. If you are upgrading one of those weapons, this guide’s standard-stone locations are not the route you need.
Collect Smithing Stone [1] in Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula
Search Limgrave Tunnels thoroughly
Limgrave Tunnels, in the lake east of the Church of Elleh toward the lake’s north side, is the best early mine to prioritize for tier 1 stones. Don’t rush through: inspect glowing deposits on the walls, obstacles, and small gaps, where stones can be easy to miss. GameSpot and GamesRadar+ both identify the tunnels as an early tier 1 source.

Pick up stones along the way
Scattered tier 1 pickups give you more than the mine alone. Look around these named locations and landmarks:
- West of Agheel Lake, near the Stranded Graveyard, and at the Church of Elleh anvil.
- Stormhill and Stormhill Graveyard.
- The glowing statue southeast of Warmaster’s Shack. Lure a nearby troll into it to break it open.
- Saintsbridge, Summonwater Village, Artist’s Shack, and a bridge near Agheel Lake.
- Fort Haight and the Bridge of Sacrifice.
- Castle Morne.
Two cave detours are also listed as tier 1 sources: Highroad Cave has three stones on a corpse on a ledge in its flooded chamber, while Morne Tunnel is described as containing many tier 1 stones. The GamesRadar+ guide reports more than 40 tier 1 stones across its mapped early locations—enough, by its count, to reinforce three weapons to +3. Treat that as the guide’s published total, not a guaranteed count for every route or playthrough.

Prioritize the scarcer Smithing Stone [2] pickups
Tier 2 stones are less common than tier 1 in Limgrave. GamesRadar+ lists 15 tier 2 stones across 11 areas in Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula, and says the finds can bring one +3 weapon to +6. Its listed locations include:
- A glowing statue and Highroad Cave.
- The ravine south of Summonwater Village and Mistwood Ruins.
- The Church of Dragon Communion.
- The road through the Weeping Peninsula after the Bridge of Sacrifice.
- Three pickups in Castle Morne.
- Locations in Stormveil Castle.
Because the early-region supply is limited, collect these as you explore rather than expecting to stock up on tier 2 stones as easily as tier 1. The guide’s total is a mapped-location count, not a measured farming rate.

Finite pickups are useful immediately, but the repeatable supply requires more progression and a boss fight. In northeastern Liurnia, reach Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel and defeat the Crystalian at the end to obtain Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing [1]. Take it to the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold. Handing it over unlocks purchases of Smithing Stone [1] and [2]; GamesRadar+ says they can then be bought indefinitely if you have the runes.
This is a purchase unlock, not a stone-farming spot: it exchanges runes for stones and depends on reaching Liurnia and beating the tunnel boss. The available guides establish the unlock but do not give a timed route or measured rate for gathering the runes.
