As of October 15, 2026, GTA 6 has no published critic score on Metacritic. Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, so any claimed average, review quote or embargo countdown appearing before a named outlet publishes should be treated as unverified. The safest approach is to use an aggregator to discover outlets, then inspect each original review for spoiler warnings, platform details and scoring context.
What is actually known about GTA 6 reviews?
Metacritic’s Grand Theft Auto VI page currently says critic reviews are not available. That is a status report, not a zero, a placeholder average or evidence that critics dislike the game. There is no responsible GTA 6 critic-score figure to quote at the October 15, 2026 snapshot.

Rockstar’s announced launch date is November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A review published for one console is not automatically representative of the other: performance, image quality, loading and bugs can differ by platform and by the game version tested.

Do not confuse previews, user ratings and critic reviews
Preview coverage, hands-on impressions, forum comments, influencer reactions and user ratings are different evidence from a full critic review. A critic score normally accompanies a completed review under an outlet’s stated policy. Until such pages appear, a number circulating on social media may be a prediction, a fabricated graphic or a score from a different game.
Where to look for spoiler-free GTA 6 reviews
Use Metacritic as a directory, not a spoiler guarantee
When reviews go live, Metacritic can help you find a range of named outlets and see whether scores have been posted. Its listing does not certify that every linked page is spoiler-free. Aggregator snippets, headlines and thumbnails can reveal story information before you reach the review, and an outlet can change its warning policy after publication.
Open the original outlet page before relying on a score. Record the outlet and reviewer, rather than treating an anonymous card or repost as the source. If an aggregator links to a video review, look for a text version when you want maximum spoiler control.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck the original page before reading
Look for these details near the headline, score or introduction:
- A clear “spoiler-free” label or a spoiler section separated from the main review.
- The publication date and any “updated” date.
- The reviewer’s name and, where stated, the console and game edition tested.
- The numerical score, its scale and any recommendation badge.
- A warning that identifies the point at which plot details begin.
If the page gives no warning, assume that plot details may appear anywhere. A score alone cannot tell you whether the review discusses missions, character identities, endings or late-game systems.
A low-risk reading sequence
- Search for a named outlet and reviewer, not for an isolated number or social-media image.
- Open the outlet’s text review in a new tab and pause before scrolling.
- Read the page header for its date, platform, edition, score scale and spoiler policy.
- Use reader mode or a text-only view if your browser supports it. These modes can remove autoplay video, image galleries and embedded social posts, although they cannot guarantee that the text itself is spoiler-free.
- Stop at the first spoiler warning. Do not continue to the separated section just because the verdict is visible below it.
- Save the score and metadata in your comparison sheet before opening another review.
Elements to avoid
Autoplay trailers, review thumbnails, comment sections, social embeds and screenshot galleries can expose story details even when the prose is marked spoiler-free. Headlines and URL slugs sometimes name a character, mission or outcome. If a search result itself contains an unexpected plot phrase, close it rather than copying the snippet into your notes. Disable autoplay and avoid comments until you have finished the reviews you intend to read.

Build a review log with comparable fields
Collecting the same fields for every outlet prevents a high score from hiding an apples-to-oranges comparison. Use one row per review and keep the outlet’s original wording alongside any calculation you make.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Field | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Outlet | Publication name and review URL | Shows where the judgment originated and lets you recheck changes. |
| Reviewer | Byline exactly as displayed | Distinguishes a staff review from an unattributed card or repost. |
| Publication date | Date and, when available, time zone or time | Reviews published before a patch may describe a different build from later reviews. |
| Platform | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S or another explicitly stated platform | Performance and visual findings may not transfer between consoles. |
| Edition and build | Edition name, review copy details and patch/build number when supplied | Special editions and post-launch updates can change included content or behavior. |
| Original score | For example, 4/5, 8/10, 85%, A or “Recommended” | Preserves the outlet’s own scale and avoids false precision. |
| Score scale | Maximum points, percentage basis or grading system | An 8/10 and an 8/10-star rating are not interchangeable without their scales. |
| Recommendation format | Badge, buy/no-buy language or none | Badges are editorial judgments, not numerical measurements. |
| Spoiler policy | Spoiler-free label, separated section, warning position or no warning | Lets you choose what to read without relying on the aggregate. |
| Review completeness | Campaign, open world, online features, accessibility, performance and technical testing covered or not stated | A short verdict may omit issues important to your purchase. |
Keep a timestamp at the top of the sheet, such as “checked October 15, 2026, 18:00 UTC.” Also note whether you captured a critic review, a user rating or a preview. This prevents later updates from silently changing what your snapshot meant.
Normalize scores without erasing their context
Normalization is useful for sorting, but it is not a new critic verdict. Put the original score next to every normalized value and show the formula. Do not average recommendation badges with numerical scores.
| Original format | Transparent treatment | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| 4/5 | 80% (4 ÷ 5 × 100) | Retain the original 4/5 because the percentage is your calculation. |
| 8/10 | 80% (8 ÷ 10 × 100) | Equal arithmetic does not prove that two outlets use equally demanding standards. |
| 85% | 85% | Confirm that the outlet means a percentage score rather than a percentile ranking. |
| Letter grade such as A | Keep as A unless the outlet publishes an explicit conversion | Grade boundaries vary; inventing a percentage creates unsupported precision. |
| “Recommended” or another badge | Keep as a separate recommendation column | A badge is not a number and should not enter a numerical average. |
For numerical scores, a simple conversion is normalized percentage = score ÷ maximum possible score × 100. Apply it only when the maximum is known. If an outlet uses stars but does not state whether the scale is five or ten stars, record the original mark and write “scale not stated” rather than guessing.
Why a single average can mislead
- Outlets may use different scales and different standards for an equivalent number.
- Some publications score the technical package heavily; others emphasize story, systems or replay value.
- One outlet may review a PlayStation 5 build while another reviews Xbox Series X|S.
- A review updated after a patch can reflect fixes unavailable at launch.
- A small early sample can swing dramatically when one more review arrives.
Use the normalized column to sort records, not to claim that an 82% outlet is objectively twice as positive as a 41% outlet. Read the reasoning, the criticism and the recommendation in their original context.
Cross-check Metacritic with OpenCritic when both are populated
When review pages become available, compare the underlying outlet lists, not only the headline averages. Metacritic and OpenCritic may include different publications, apply different eligibility rules or separate console versions differently. A missing outlet can explain why two aggregates diverge.

Investigate differences instead of picking the higher number
- Missing outlet: Search your log for the publication and verify whether the aggregator has indexed its page.
- Platform split: Check whether one service reports separate PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S aggregates.
- Delayed update: A newly published review may appear on the outlet before an aggregator refreshes.
- Changed review: An outlet may revise text or score after a patch; record the updated date and preserve the prior snapshot.
- Eligibility difference: Some services may exclude a review with no numerical score or treat a badge differently.
An aggregate is a useful signal about the distribution of published opinions. It is not a substitute for checking spoiler warnings, platform, edition, review date or the arguments behind the score.
What is known about the GTA 6 review embargo?
No official review-embargo time is established in the available evidence. Rockstar’s launch announcements identify the release date and platforms, but they do not provide a critic-review hour.
Treat anonymous leaks, countdown graphics, screenshots without provenance and social posts claiming an embargo time as rumors. A reliable confirmation would come from a named outlet publishing under its byline or from public guidance by Rockstar or the game’s publisher. Even then, time-zone differences can make an embargo appear to lift on different calendar dates for different readers.
How to plan around an announced time
- Convert the stated time to your local time and write down the source and date of the announcement.
- Check whether the rule covers written reviews, video reviews, streams and user impressions separately.
- Wait for the outlet’s own page rather than trusting a countdown image.
- At release, verify the platform and build before comparing the score with another publication.
Control spoilers while comparing several reviews
Reading multiple reviews increases your exposure to headlines, snippets and comments, so use a deliberate order.
Start with the least revealing material
- Open a text review that explicitly separates spoilers and avoid its media gallery.
- Capture its metadata and score without reading beyond the warning line.
- Repeat with a second outlet whose policy is equally clear.
- Only after you have formed your own comparison should you read deeper criticism, technical analysis or video commentary.
Do not use search autocomplete or social recommendation feeds to find the next review; both can surface character and mission terms. Reader mode reduces visual surprises but cannot remove a spoiler embedded in a headline or paragraph. If you need absolute plot protection, stop at the outlet’s verdict and skip the body until after you finish the game.
Timestamp every comparison because the data will move
Review aggregates are live databases. The count, average, platform split, release listing, embargo information and retail availability can change as outlets publish, update or withdraw pages. A useful comparison therefore states:

- The exact date and time of the check, including time zone.
- The number of reviews included by each aggregator at that moment.
- The platforms and editions represented.
- Whether scores were original, normalized or both.
- Whether any review was updated after a patch.
When you revisit the list, create a new snapshot instead of overwriting the old one. That preserves the difference between an early-launch view and the broader picture that emerges days or weeks later.

Publishing a predicted score as a live result
Symptom: A post gives GTA 6 an average before named critic reviews exist.
Fix: Label it as a prediction or omit it. Report only scores attached to published outlet reviews, with the publication date and scale.
Assuming an aggregator guarantees no spoilers
Symptom: A reader clicks a review card and sees a character or mission outcome in a thumbnail or headline.
Fix: Use the aggregator only to locate the outlet, then inspect the original page’s warning and open a text-only view.

Fix: Record both publication and updated dates, the build or patch where stated, and the text explaining the change.
A spoiler-safe checklist for launch week
- Confirm that the page is a named critic review, not a preview, user rating or rumor.
- Check the outlet, reviewer, date, platform, edition and build.
- Find the spoiler policy before scrolling into the body.
- Disable autoplay and avoid thumbnails, screenshots, comments and social embeds.
- Record the original score, scale and recommendation separately.
- Normalize only numerical scores whose maximum is known.
- Compare outlet lists and platform splits across Metacritic and OpenCritic.
- Write down the review count and timestamp for every aggregate.
- Ignore alleged embargo times until a named outlet or Rockstar publishes confirmation.
- Read the reasoning behind the verdict after deciding how much plot information you are willing to see.
This process lets you answer “What is GTA 6’s Metacritic score?” accurately at each point in the release cycle, while preserving the spoiler protection that an aggregate page cannot provide on its own.
