Wizards of the Coast made 77 serialized copies of the Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY Traveling Chocobo, numbered 1 through 77. The gold-colored card is often called the “Golden Chocobo”; officially, it is a serialized Traveling Chocobo. Wizards says these cards appear only in English-language Collector Boosters—not Play Boosters or the Chocobo Bundle.
What is the Golden Chocobo card?
It is a special serialized version of the Traveling Chocobo card in the Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY set. Wizards describes the card as depicting the elusive golden chocobo. “Golden Chocobo” is the familiar shorthand; “Serialized Traveling Chocobo” is the more precise official name. Each copy carries its own number, from 1 to 77. Wizards’ product page and its collecting guide establish the card’s name and numbering.
Which packs can contain one?
Wizards identifies English-language Collector Boosters as the only product containing the serialized card. That product restriction is important: the existence of other boosters or languages for the set does not mean they can contain a serialized Golden Chocobo.
| Product | Can it contain a serialized Golden Chocobo? |
|---|---|
| English Collector Booster | Yes. Wizards says the serialized cards appear only in English-language Collector Boosters. |
| Play Booster | Not identified as a source for the serialized card by Wizards’ product information. |
| Chocobo Bundle | No. Wizards Play Network explicitly says the bundle does not contain a Golden Chocobo. |
The bundle warning appears on the Wizards Play Network product details page, which directs collectors seeking the card to English-language Collector Boosters.

How rare is it, and what are the odds?
The confirmed total is 77 serialized copies—not 77 per language or 77 in each booster product. Wizards says only 77 English Collector Boosters will contain one, and its collecting guide says the individual cards are numbered 1–77. These are Wizards’ stated figures for the set; they do not provide a pull rate or probability for an individual booster.
A booster purchase therefore does not guarantee a serialized card. The official sources cited here establish the total and product placement, but do not establish a pack-by-pack chance, current market value, completed sale price, or current retailer stock.

Is there a regular Traveling Chocobo card?
Yes. The set also has non-serialized Traveling Chocobo cards. Wizards says those are mechanically identical to the serialized versions, so the serial number distinguishes the collectible variant rather than a different gameplay function. Players interested in using the card do not need a numbered copy to get the same mechanics.
