To judge whether a Steam deal is worth buying, compare the game’s current price with its recorded price history in your currency and for the exact edition you want. A large discount percentage does not prove it is the game’s lowest price, and past sale patterns cannot guarantee the next one.
How to check a Steam game’s price history

Search for the exact game on SteamDB and open its price-history page. SteamDB provides price tables and graphs for game pages; its FAQ explains how to read them.

Find the current price and the prior low in the table or graph. Note the date of that low if shown, and check that you are looking at the same game edition and currency as the offer you are considering.

Compare like with like: the same base game or edition, in your actual region and currency. Regional prices differ, so a price shown for another country is not a direct comparison. There is no need to change your Steam account region to check prices elsewhere.

Check whether the offer is part of a bundle or package. A bundle’s contents can make its effective price different from the price of an individual game, so compare what you would actually receive rather than treating the listed game prices as interchangeable.
What a recorded low tells you—and what it doesn’t
A price tracker’s low is a record of prices it captured, not a guarantee that the price shown was the lowest price the game ever had. SteamDB describes its tracked low as the lowest captured within its recording window. The SteamDB price-history page and FAQ provide the historical context to make that comparison.

Do not use the discount percentage alone to decide whether an offer is exceptional. A percentage-based deal rating and a comparison against captured historical prices answer different questions. Steam Dashboard’s regional price-check interface describes this distinction and displays prices across regions.
How to decide whether to buy now or wait
Buy now if the price meets your own limit
Decide what you are willing to pay for the game, then compare the current price with that limit and the recorded history for the matching edition and currency. A current offer can be a good fit for your budget even if it is not the recorded low.

Wait if the current offer is above your limit
Add the game to a watchlist or use a price alert where available, then check again later. SteamDB documents watchlists and price-history tracking in its FAQ. An alert can help you notice a price change; it cannot predict the amount of a future discount.

Use the calendar as a cue to check prices, not as a promise that a particular game will be discounted. Publishers choose their own discounts, and SteamDB says it cannot know in advance which games will be included or what prices they will have. Sale dates can change, so check Valve’s calendar for the latest schedule.
