The Black Dye Merchant is in Teshio Ridge, near the Teshio River. From Red Crane Inn, follow the river northwest, then head west toward the frozen river bridge and search the river’s south side. Her full armor-dye selection is tied to progress in The Kitsune questline.
Where to find the Black Dye Merchant
- Travel to Teshio Ridge. Use Red Crane Inn as your landmark; the Black Dye House is west of the inn near the Teshio River. Gamer Guides’ location walkthrough places the house along this route.
- Follow the river. From the inn, follow the Teshio River northwest, then continue west toward the frozen river bridge.
- Search south of the river. Look for the dye house and the smaller building beside it. The merchant is seated outside the smaller building. Black banners at her home are another visual cue, according to Dexerto’s location guide.
Walkthroughs describe the route with slightly different compass cues, so use the inn, river, bridge and south bank together to orient yourself.

When her armor dyes become available
You can visit and speak with the merchant before completing her questline, but her services and stock are limited. To access the fuller armor-dye selection, advance The Kitsune questline through The Way of the Shamisen and rescue her family. The dyes are reported to unlock after that portion of the questline, according to Game8’s merchant guide.

How to solve the Black Dye House puzzle
If you encounter the kitsune-statue puzzle during The Kitsune questline, match each statue to its corresponding side and symbol, then orient the lids outward:

- Place the left-facing kitsune statue on the left pedestal.
- Place the other kitsune statue on the right pedestal, matching the symbols.
- Rotate the left lid so it faces left and the right lid so it faces right.
