The courtyard in Buried City is an indoor space inside the Santa Maria Houses in Old Town—not an open-air plaza. For the Digging Up Dirt quest, reach the rooftops north of the houses, enter the pink building, descend by zipline, and look for the fountain at the courtyard’s center.
Route to the courtyard

Go to the rooftops north of the Santa Maria Houses in Old Town. Face south toward the houses and the yellow bell tower.

Follow the metal walkway on your right toward the yellow building. Instead, enter the pink building on your left through its window.

Inside the pink building, take the zipline down one floor.

Find the opening in the wall on your left and pass through it. This leads into the indoor courtyard.
Find the dead drop
The dead drop is in the small fountain at the center of the courtyard. Interact with it to complete the objective, then return to Speranza and speak with Celeste to turn in Digging Up Dirt.

Celeste gives Digging Up Dirt after Tribute To Toledo. Its objectives are to locate Santa Maria Houses in Old Town and find the dead drop inside the courtyard. The quest reference lists rewards of 2 Advanced Electrical Components and 2 Speaker Components.
ARC machines may be present in the houses: a Sentinel turret is possible, and Pops and Fireballs have been reported on both floors. Other players may also be around the rooftops, which are near the middle of the map. These encounters are possible, not guaranteed. The walkthrough says no items need to be brought in or extracted for this objective; a free loadout can limit the value at risk.
