How to Find the Persistent Pot Chest in FFXIV’s Occult Crescent

The Persistent Pot chest is a concealed coffer found by following the Magical Elixir’s directional hints—not by going to the pot-defense FATE coordinates.

Complete a pot-defense FATE, then use the Magical Elixir key item to follow the Persistent Pot’s directional hints to a concealed coffer. The FATE coordinates are only where you earn the hunt—not the chest’s location. The exact coffer spot depends on whether you are in South Horn or North Horn and on the hints you receive.

How to start the Persistent Pot hunt

  1. Complete a FATE that asks you to defend magic pots in the Horn you are exploring. FATE completion can grant the “Cache Me if You Can” status and cause a Persistent Pot to follow you. At FATEs with high participation, Square Enix says recipients are selected at random, so participation does not guarantee the status for every player. See the Patch 7.55 Notes.

  2. When the pot is following you, use the Magical Elixir key item in the duty interface to request a hint. It is reusable; do not mistake it for the similarly named Occult Elixir consumable. The hint gives a direction and approximate distance.

  3. Move in the indicated direction and use the Magical Elixir again to update the clue. Match the hint to the map for your current Horn to narrow down possible coffer locations.

  4. When the clue says the coffer is immediately nearby, use the Magical Elixir again within range to reveal the concealed coffer, then open it.

Square Enix describes the mechanic this way: “Follow the hints and use your elixir at the correct location to reveal a concealed coffer.” The FATE itself does not mark the final chest location.

Find the pot-defense FATE for your region

These coordinates identify the FATEs where you can earn the Persistent Pot hunt. They are not coordinates for the concealed coffer.

Region Pot-defense FATE FATE coordinates
South Horn Persistent Pots X:25.6, Y:17.1
South Horn Pleading Pots X:11.9, Y:32.0
North Horn Daylight Pottery X:26.2, Y:11.6
North Horn In a Pot of Bother X:11.0, Y:25.8

Use a map for the same region as your FATE: South Horn and North Horn have separate possible-coffer maps and reward currencies. The Icy Veins Occult Crescent magic-pot guide lists the FATE coordinates and regional maps; community references also map possible coffers for South Horn and North Horn.

How to read the pot’s hints

The clues are directional and approximate, not a numeric chest coordinate. A third-party guide describes “Far, Far” as indicating a long distance; “Far” or a direction alone as getting closer; and “Immediately” as very close. When you reach that last stage, use the Magical Elixir again to reveal the coffer. These wording interpretations come from published guides and community references; the official patch notes confirm the general hint-and-reveal mechanic.

Treat the map as a shortlist, not a guaranteed route to one fixed spot. Check the compass and potential locations on the map for your Horn, then let each updated in-game hint narrow the options. There is no single universal final coffer coordinate.

Keep the hunt from ending early

Square Enix’s Patch 7.55 notes say the pursuit ends when all available spoils are found, the player joins a critical encounter while followed, the player or pot is incapacitated, or the player leaves Occult Crescent or logs out. Protect the pot and complete the hunt before entering a critical encounter or leaving the instance.

What happens after the first coffer

Community-maintained references report that, occasionally, opening a coffer leads to a second hunt. Consolegameswiki estimates the additional-coffer chance at about 10%; this is not a rate stated in Square Enix’s patch notes. The bonus coffer is reported to be gold and to appear in areas with high-level enemies, so pursuing it can be riskier than the first hunt. Open the first coffer before using the key item to begin the next route.
