A failed extraction does not automatically erase every ARC Raiders quest objective. Embark’s Patch Notes 1.22.0 say that quest progress bars show what progress may be lost if you fail to extract
. After the failed raid, open the quest tracker, identify the objectives or progress that are missing, and repeat only those parts. Any objective that requires you to bring or extract an item should be treated as incomplete until you successfully leave with it.
The exact persistence rule is quest-specific and is not fully documented. The safe method is therefore tracker-first: read the objective wording before the next raid, compare the tracker after the failure, and complete a successful extraction when the objective depends on carrying something out.

What a failed extraction can do to quest progress
ARC Raiders separates activity inside a raid from progress that survives the raid. Embark added progress indicators so you can see which quest progress is exposed to an unsuccessful extraction. The relevant line in Patch Notes 1.22.0 is: Progress bars now indicate what progress may be lost if you fail to extract.

It says progress may be lost, not that every quest resets to zero after every failed extraction. Your quest tracker is the authoritative evidence for your current run.

- Progress shown as retained: do not redo it merely because the raid ended badly.
- Progress shown as lost or incomplete: plan to repeat that objective.
- An item-related objective that says to bring, deliver, or extract something: assume the item must leave the raid successfully unless the in-game wording says otherwise.
No official statistic states how often a failed extraction removes progress or how much is lost on average. Treat reports from other players as observations, not as a rule that overrides the tracker for your quest.
Check the quest before risking another run
Do this while you are in a safe menu, before launching the next raid. The purpose is to establish exactly what the game expects and which progress bars are exposed.
- Open the quest list or quest-tracking screen.
- Select the specific ARC Raiders quest rather than relying on a general objective summary.
- Read every objective verbatim. Separate actions performed in the raid from actions that require an item to be carried out.
- Note each displayed progress bar and its current count or state. Embark says these bars indicate what may be lost after a failed extraction.
- If several objectives are grouped under one quest, record which ones are already complete and which ones still require work.
A quick screenshot or written note can prevent confusion later. Record the quest name, each objective, the current count, and whether an item is shown as collected, delivered, or extracted. You are not trying to predict hidden rules; you are creating a before-and-after comparison that shows exactly what changed.
Do not infer a rule from a different quest. Two objectives can look similar while having different completion conditions, so use the wording and the tracker for the quest you are actually playing.
Classify the objective before you repeat it
Classifying the step prevents two common errors: repeating work that survived, and assuming that finding an item is enough when the quest requires a successful extraction.
Actions completed inside the raid
These are actions such as an interaction, a collection, or another task whose wording does not require you to leave with a particular item. If the tracker still marks the action complete after the failed extraction, it is not a reason to restart the whole quest. If its bar has moved backward or the objective is again incomplete, repeat the missing portion.
Completion during the raid and persistence after the raid are separate questions. You may have performed the action correctly but still need to check whether the game retained it. Conversely, an action that remains complete does not need to be repeated simply because another objective was lost.

Items that must be brought out
Wording that tells you to bring, deliver, or extract an item creates an additional condition: the item has to survive the raid with you. Merely locating or picking it up may not finish that kind of step. This is a practical reading of extraction-based wording, not a claim that every quest uses an identical hidden check. Confirm the result on the tracker after a successful extraction.
When this is the missing step, plan the raid around two moments: obtaining the item and leaving with it. Do not treat the pickup animation or an inventory change as final proof. The relevant confirmation is the quest state after the extraction has been recorded.
Several objectives in one round
A quest may ask for multiple actions or collections during one raid. If the run ends before extraction, check each objective separately. Do not assume that completing one part means all parts persisted, and do not assume that every part was erased. Embark’s notes support inspecting the individual progress indicators rather than applying an all-or-nothing rule.

A useful approach is to make a small checklist for the round. Mark each interaction or collection only when it is completed, then compare that list with the tracker after the run. If one objective is still complete and another is not, replay only the latter unless its wording links it to an item that must be extracted.

Bars that are explicitly at risk
A progress bar is a warning about possible loss, not a promise that the entire quest will reset. Use it to decide what to protect on the next run: prioritize the exposed objective, avoid unnecessary detours once it is complete, and leave through an extraction point while the required item or progress is still with you.
Because Embark does not publish a percentage or average amount of progress lost, do not plan around a presumed loss rate. The bar is useful as an indicator for your quest, not as a numerical guarantee for every quest in the game.
Recovery procedure after extraction fails
Follow this sequence immediately after returning to the menus. It is designed to minimize unnecessary repetition while still recovering anything the tracker shows as missing.
- Reopen the quest tracker. Do not rely on memory of what you completed during the raid. Compare the current objective states with the states you recorded before entering.
- Identify the changed items. Mark objectives that are now incomplete, have a reduced count, or no longer show the expected collected item. Leave objectives that remain complete alone.
- Check the wording for an extraction condition. If the missing step requires bringing or extracting an item, plan a run in which the item is obtained and then carried out successfully.
- Repeat only the missing work. A failed extraction is not, by itself, a reason to restart every earlier quest step. Replay a completed step only if the tracker shows that it was lost or if the objective wording makes it part of the still-incomplete requirement.
- Make extraction the final objective. Once the required action or collection is done, reduce optional risks and leave. The objective is not secure until the game records the successful extraction when that condition applies.
- Verify the result in the tracker. After extracting, reopen the quest and confirm the count, completion state, or item-delivery state changed. If it did not, treat that as a tracking problem rather than repeatedly guessing.
If the tracker looks different from your note but you cannot tell whether the change is beneficial or a loss, compare the exact count and wording rather than the quest headline alone. A completed sub-objective can remain intact while an item-delivery sub-objective returns to incomplete.
How to plan the replacement raid
Once you know which objective was lost, build the next run around that objective instead of replaying the entire quest blindly.
Prioritize the exposed step
Take the shortest reasonable route to the missing interaction or collection. The longer you remain in the raid after completing an at-risk step, the more opportunities there are for another failed extraction to put it at risk again. This is a risk-management recommendation, not a guarantee about how the game stores progress.
Before entering, decide what counts as success for that run. For an interaction, success may be seeing the objective count change. For an item, success includes a safe extraction and a post-raid tracker update. Having that definition prevents you from leaving the raid early with an item that still has not satisfied the quest condition.
Protect extraction-dependent items
If the quest requires an item to be extracted, treat that item as the run’s primary payload. Avoid actions that could cause you to lose it, and do not count the objective as finished until the tracker updates after a successful exit.

Handle multi-objective requests deliberately
For a quest with several missing objectives, decide whether the game allows you to complete them in one safe raid or whether separating them reduces risk. The official notes do not define a universal persistence rule for every combination, so the tracker after each successful extraction should guide the next decision.
Separating objectives can make diagnosis easier: if one run contains one missing step, you can tell whether that step registered. Combining objectives can reduce the number of raids, but it also makes a later failure harder to interpret. Choose the approach that gives you the clearest tracker result and the safest extraction.
When a completed objective does not register
A missing update is not always evidence that the extraction rule removed progress. First rule out the conditions built into the objective, then consider a tracking defect.
Confirm the objective’s completion condition
Read the wording again. An objective can require the item to be extracted, more than one interaction, or several collections in the same round. Completing only one visible part may leave the objective incomplete even when the raid action felt successful.
Check whether you performed every required interaction and whether the required item was actually present when you extracted. If the objective specifies a quantity or multiple collections, one successful pickup is not enough. If it specifies bringing something out, a failed extraction interrupts the condition even if the pickup itself was recorded during the raid.
Consider the known multi-objective issue
Embark’s November Update 1.2.0, last updated November 13, 2025, says it fixed an issue that prevented completion of quests involving multiple objectives or item collections within a single round. That note confirms that quest tracking defects have occurred. It does not prove that every current failure is the same bug, nor does it specify a workaround for a particular quest.
Use that history as a diagnostic possibility, not as a diagnosis. A failure to update after one attempt may still reflect an extraction requirement or an incomplete count. First satisfy the exact wording, extract successfully when required, and then compare the tracker.
Use a short diagnostic record
If the tracker still appears stuck after you satisfy the wording and successfully extract, record:
- the exact quest name;
- the exact objective text;
- what you did and whether all required items were present;
- whether the raid ended in a successful extraction or a failure;
- the progress shown before and after the run;
- your platform and the game version displayed by the client.
Use that record when checking current official support information or update notes. The official notes do not establish an all-purpose workaround, so avoid deleting the quest, abandoning unrelated objectives, or repeatedly replaying the same run unless the tracker shows that work is actually missing.
Failed extraction versus an Expedition reset
An unsuccessful raid and an Expedition reset are separate progression events. A failed extraction concerns what may be lost from the current quest progress. An Expedition can apply a broader, cycle-level reset according to its own rules.

Embark’s announcement for The 5th Expedition, dated August 21, 2026, offered an option to opt out of resetting quest progress for that cycle and said the fifth Expedition would be the last until early 2027. Those details were specific to that Expedition and may be superseded by later announcements. Do not use the Expedition policy to predict what a normal failed extraction will do, and do not treat a normal extraction failure as proof that an Expedition reset occurred.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow to tell which situation you are facing
| Situation | What to inspect | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Failed extraction during an ordinary raid | The quest’s progress bars and objective states after returning to the menus | Repeat only progress that is missing or incomplete, then extract successfully when required |
| Objective requires carrying an item out | The exact wording and whether the item remains credited after extraction | Obtain the item again if necessary and leave the raid with it |
| Several objectives or collections in one round | Each objective separately, not just the quest headline | Verify each state; replay only the parts that did not register |
| Expedition-cycle reset | The active Expedition announcement and the reset choice for that cycle | Follow the current Expedition rules; do not diagnose it as an ordinary raid failure |
The distinction matters when several quests appear to change at once. A single failed raid should be investigated through that quest’s bars and objectives. A wider change tied to an Expedition should be checked against the current Expedition announcement and its reset choice.
Common mistakes that waste a raid
Restarting every objective automatically
This creates unnecessary work and can obscure the real problem. The official guidance about progress bars is specifically useful because it lets you distinguish exposed progress from progress that remains. Check the tracker first.
Stopping after finding the quest item
Finding an item is not the same as extracting it when the objective says to bring or extract it. Plan for the complete condition and verify the tracker after a successful exit.
Assuming another player’s reset is universal
Community reports can describe a real experience without documenting the rule for every quest. Quest wording, displayed bars, and your own before-and-after tracker state are stronger evidence for the decision you need to make.

Repeating a run without recording the state
Without a before-and-after comparison, it is easy to repeat a completed step or overlook a multi-objective requirement. A quick note of the objective text and progress state makes the next attempt targeted.
Confusing a tracker defect with lost progress
If the objective conditions were met and a successful extraction still produces no update, investigate the possibility of a tracking issue. Repeating the same action indefinitely will not establish whether the game failed to record it.
Confusing a normal raid failure with an Expedition reset
An Expedition can alter quest progression on a cycle-wide basis, while a failed extraction is tied to the result of one raid. Check the event’s current rules before assuming that a broad change came from the failed extraction itself.

The most defensible rule is therefore practical rather than absolute: let the quest tracker show what survived, repeat what it shows as lost, and complete a successful extraction for any objective whose wording requires one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a failed extraction reset every ARC Raiders quest objective?
No universal reset rule is documented. Embark says progress bars indicate what progress may be lost, so check each objective after the failed raid and repeat only what is missing or incomplete.
Do I need to redo an objective that still shows complete?
No. If the tracker still marks it complete, leave it alone unless another part of the quest requires the same action or item.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIs finding a quest item enough?
Not necessarily. If the wording says to bring, deliver, or extract the item, treat a successful extraction as part of the requirement and verify the tracker afterward.
What should I do when several objectives were completed in one raid?
Inspect every objective separately after the run. A failed extraction may affect some progress without proving that all progress was erased.
Why did my objective not update after I completed it?
Recheck whether the objective required multiple interactions, several collections, or a successful extraction. Embark also fixed a prior multi-objective tracking issue, so document the exact case if the tracker remains stuck.
Can I restore lost quest progress without replaying it?
Official notes do not describe a universal restoration method. If the tracker shows progress was lost, plan to repeat that objective.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Is an Expedition reset the same as a failed extraction?
No. A failed extraction concerns one raid’s at-risk progress, while an Expedition may apply a broader cycle-level reset under its own current rules.

The official site lists Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and GeForce NOW.
The Bottom Line
After a failed extraction, do not restart the whole quest by default. Read the tracker and progress bars, repeat only objectives that are missing or reduced, and successfully extract any item the wording says to bring or deliver. If a fully satisfied objective still will not register, record the details and check current official support or update notes.
