Start by checking the live PlayStation Network status and writing down the PS5’s complete error code. Then run the console’s internet test, verify the Wi‑Fi network name and password, restart the PS5 and network equipment, and compare Wi‑Fi with a wired LAN connection. This sequence separates a PSN outage from a wireless, router, internet-provider, or console problem before you change advanced settings.
1. Check whether PlayStation Network is having an outage
Open the live PlayStation Network status page before changing router settings. If it shows an incident or scheduled maintenance, the PS5 may be unable to sign in even when your home internet is working normally. Wait for the service issue to clear, then test again.

While the error is visible on the console, record the entire code, including every letter, number, and hyphen. PlayStation’s support index has separate guidance for network and server-connection codes, so the exact code determines whether a temporary service condition or a local configuration issue is more likely.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCheck the status page again if the symptoms change. A connection that worked earlier can fail during maintenance, and a status page can change while you are troubleshooting. Do not assume that a failed sign-in proves your router is misconfigured until the service check is clear.

2. Run the PS5 internet-connection test
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Choose Network.
- Select Test Internet Connection.
- Review the results and the network details shown by the console.
If the test cannot establish Wi‑Fi, confirm that the selected network is your current network and enter its current password again. The password may be printed on the router label or supplied by the router administrator or internet service provider. A password saved on a phone or another device can be out of date, especially after a router reset or security change.
Use the test result as a clue rather than a diagnosis by itself. A failed internet test can result from a wrong wireless credential, a router that is offline, an internet-provider problem, a PSN incident, or a communication error between the console and the network.
If the test reports a connection but a game or account still cannot reach PlayStation Network, retain the exact code and check the service page again. The local internet path and PSN sign-in are related but not identical checks.
3. Set up the Wi‑Fi connection again
The normal setup path is:
Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection
Select the intended wireless network from the list and connect. Check three details before saving:
- SSID: the network name must be the one broadcast by your router, not a guest network or a similarly named neighbor’s network.
- Password: enter the current wireless password exactly, including capitalization and symbols.
- Security method: use the security option configured on the access point. A mismatch can prevent authentication even when the SSID and password look correct.
If the network does not appear, choose Set Up Manually. When the access point supports WPS, the WPS connection option is also available. Manual setup is useful when the SSID is hidden or the automatic list does not show the access point, but it still requires the router’s correct wireless details.
Confirm the details with the router administrator or ISP rather than guessing. A recent router reset, replacement, or security change can leave the console trying to use an old password or an old network name. Re-entering credentials is safer than immediately changing DNS, MTU, proxy, or port settings.

Move the console and clear the path
Move the PS5 closer to the router and remove substantial physical obstructions between them. Cabinets, dense furniture, walls, and other objects can weaken the signal. Also consider nearby devices or equipment that may create wireless interference. PlayStation’s connection guidance specifically recommends reviewing console placement when Wi‑Fi is in use.
Make one placement change at a time and rerun Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection. A connection that becomes reliable after moving the console points toward wireless range, obstruction, or interference; it does not prove that one particular object caused the problem.
Keep the comparison controlled: use the same SSID and password after moving the console, and note whether the failure is immediate or intermittent. If the network disappears from the list at one location but appears near the router, wireless range or interference deserves attention before router reconfiguration.
Restart the PS5
Restart the console normally, then run the internet test again. A restart clears a temporary console-side networking state without changing your saved games or router configuration.

Power-cycle the modem and router
- Turn off the modem and router.
- Leave both devices off for at least five minutes.
- Turn them back on and wait until their normal connection indicators return.
- Retry the PS5 connection and run the built-in test.
This process can clear a temporary router state or connection congestion. Some code-specific PlayStation guidance also recommends trying again later when a line or service condition may be temporary. Do not judge the result while the modem or router is still booting; wait for its ordinary connection indicators before testing the PS5.
5. Compare Wi‑Fi with a wired LAN connection
A wired test is one of the most useful ways to narrow the fault. Connect a suitable Ethernet/LAN cable from the router to the PS5, then open:
Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection > Set Up Wired LAN > Connect
If you do not already have a cable that can reach the router, an Ethernet cable for PS5 or LAN cable is the only equipment needed for this comparison. Buying one is optional; try the free checks first. No particular brand, cable category, or performance specification is required for this diagnostic step.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Interpret the result this way:
- Ethernet works while Wi‑Fi fails: focus on wireless placement, interference, SSID and security settings, or router Wi‑Fi configuration. This is a diagnostic clue, not proof of one specific cause.
- Both Ethernet and Wi‑Fi fail: investigate the PSN status, the router’s internet connection, the provider, account sign-in, and the displayed error code before assuming the PS5’s radio is defective.
- Other devices also lack internet access: the router, modem, or internet provider becomes the more relevant place to troubleshoot.
- Other devices work but the PS5 does not: check the PS5’s saved network details, router compatibility, filtering, and code-specific guidance.
A wired connection cannot bypass a PlayStation Network outage or an upstream internet-provider failure. It only compares the console’s wireless path with a direct local-network path. Disconnect the cable and restore the intended connection after the comparison if you do not want to use Ethernet permanently.
6. Use the error code and connection pattern to choose the next step
| What you observe | What to investigate next |
|---|---|
| PlayStation Network status reports an incident or maintenance | Wait for service to return, then retry before changing home-network settings. |
| The Wi‑Fi network is visible but the PS5 rejects the connection | Recheck the SSID, current password, and router security method; retry setup. |
| The Wi‑Fi network is not listed | Move the PS5 closer, check that the access point is broadcasting, then use Set Up Manually or WPS when supported. |
| Ethernet succeeds and Wi‑Fi fails | Concentrate on wireless range, interference, placement, and router Wi‑Fi configuration. |
| No device in the home can reach the internet | Check the modem, router, and internet-provider connection. |
| Only the PS5 fails while other devices work | Follow the exact PS5 error-code article and review saved credentials, router filtering, and compatibility. |
| The code-specific article mentions temporary congestion or a busy line | Leave the connection alone for a while and try again later. |
These comparisons help locate the failing layer: PlayStation Network, the internet service, the router, the wireless link, or the console. They are diagnostic reasoning, not measured success rates; PlayStation does not publish a percentage showing how often a restart, DNS change, or wired test fixes these problems.

When a test passes, write down exactly what passed. For example, “other devices online, Ethernet works, Wi‑Fi fails” is more useful to support than “the PS5 is offline.” Record the time, the network used, and the complete code so a temporary condition can be compared with a later attempt.
7. Use the error code and connection pattern to choose the next step
If the PS5 connects to the router but cannot reach PlayStation Network, do not repeat Wi‑Fi setup indefinitely. Check the live status page, follow the article for the exact code, and retry after a temporary incident or busy line has had time to clear. If the PS5 cannot see or authenticate to the network, stay focused on SSID, password, security method, placement, and router Wi‑Fi behavior.
Different devices succeeding does not automatically rule out the router. Filtering, compatibility, port filtering, or a reserved address can affect one console while phones and computers continue to browse. Conversely, if every device is offline, changing a PS5 setting cannot repair the provider or modem connection.
8. Advanced network settings: change them only for a reason
PlayStation’s internet-connection setup exposes advanced options for IP address, DHCP host name, DNS, MTU, and proxy. On the CFI-7000 model group, it also lists Multi-Link Operation. These settings affect the entire network path and are not universal fixes for every failed connection.
If you are unfamiliar with these terms, PlayStation advises asking your internet service provider or network administrator. Record the original values before changing anything so you can restore them if the result is worse. Change one setting at a time and rerun the PS5 internet test after each change.
Avoid copying a setting from an unrelated guide without matching it to your router and error code. An incorrect static IP can conflict with another device; an unsuitable DNS, MTU, or proxy value can create a new failure; and a router change can affect everyone on the network. The least risky sequence is to restore the previous value when a change does not help, then seek network-administrator guidance.

For error NW-102650-4, PlayStation’s guidance says that temporarily changing DNS or configuring a static IP may help. Those are code-dependent options, not instructions to apply to every PS5. A static IP must be compatible with the router’s address range and DHCP arrangement; an arbitrary address can create a new conflict.
The same guidance lists these ports:
- TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480
- UDP: 3478, 3479, 49152–65535
Ask the ISP or the person who administers the router for help with port forwarding, firewall rules, or router settings. Another PlayStation communication-error page advises asking the ISP about port filtering. Do not open ports broadly or disable security controls without understanding the router’s rules and the effect on other devices.
PlayStation Support’s official guidance for this code includes the qualification: “If the above does not solve the problem, the line is likely to be temporarily busy. Please leave it for a while and try again later.” Treat that as a reason to retry later, not as evidence that your hardware has failed.
IPv6 and IPv4 compatibility
The PS5 supports IPv6, but an IPv6-only network is unsupported. The router must also use IPv4. If the router is configured for IPv6-only operation, change it to use IPv4 and contact the router manufacturer or internet provider if you need help finding that setting.

Do not disable or redesign the whole network merely because the PS5 failed once. Confirm the router’s mode first, and ask its administrator to make the compatibility change. A dual-stack or IPv4-capable configuration is the relevant requirement; the console does not need an IPv6-only connection.
9. Common troubleshooting pitfalls
- Skipping the status check: Router changes cannot restore PSN during an outage or maintenance window.
- Using an old password: A saved credential can remain wrong after a router reset or security change. Re-enter the current value.
- Changing several advanced values at once: You will not know which change mattered and may create a second problem. Change one value only when the code-specific guidance calls for it.
- Assuming Ethernet proves the provider is healthy: A cable only tests a different path inside the home; it cannot bypass a provider or PSN failure.
- Opening every listed port: The ports cited for NW-102650-4 are advanced, code-dependent guidance. Ask the ISP or network administrator rather than applying broad forwarding rules.
- Ignoring the five-minute wait: Restarting a modem and router immediately may not clear the temporary state PlayStation’s guidance is addressing.
- Buying equipment too soon: A LAN cable is optional for comparison. Try status, credentials, placement, restarts, and the built-in test first.
10. When to contact the router administrator or ISP
Contact the person who manages the network or the ISP when:
- the modem or router cannot provide internet access to any device;
- the router uses IPv6-only mode;
- port filtering, firewall rules, DNS behavior, or a static-IP reservation needs changing;
- you need the current Wi‑Fi password or security method;
- the router requires firmware or compatibility assistance.
Give them the PS5 error code, whether Ethernet works, whether other devices are online, and the time the failure occurred. Those details are more useful than repeatedly resetting settings without recording the result. Ask specifically about port filtering when the PlayStation code or communication guidance points to it.
11. When to use PlayStation support or Repairs
Follow the exact PlayStation error-code article and support or Repairs path when the following have all been checked: the live PSN status, the correct Wi‑Fi credentials, a console restart, a modem/router restart with the five-minute wait, and a wired comparison where practical. If the problem may be temporary, retry later before concluding that the console needs service.
Persistent failure on both wired and wireless connections, while other devices have normal internet access and no PSN incident is reported, is the point to document the test results and contact PlayStation support. Keep the complete error code and the outcome of each test available for the support representative.

Use this order so that free, reversible checks come before advanced router changes:
- Check the live PlayStation Network status and record the full error code.
- Run Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection.
- Reconnect through Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection, confirming SSID, password, and security method.
- Move the PS5 closer to the router and remove likely obstructions or interference.
- Restart the PS5.
- Turn off the modem and router for at least five minutes, restart them, and retest.
- Compare with Set Up Wired LAN if you can connect an Ethernet cable.
- Use DNS, static-IP, port, filtering, IPv6, or other advanced changes only when the relevant error guidance or network administrator calls for them.
- Retry later for a possible temporary service or line condition, then contact the ISP, router administrator, or PlayStation support with the recorded results.
Frequently asked questions
Why should I check PSN status first?
An outage or maintenance event can block sign-in even when your Wi‑Fi and internet service are working. Confirming status first prevents unnecessary router changes; check again later because the live condition can change.

What if my Wi‑Fi network does not appear on the PS5?
Move the console closer to the router, confirm that the access point is broadcasting, and try Set Up Manually. If supported by the access point, WPS is another available setup option. You still need the correct SSID and wireless details.
What does it mean if Ethernet works but Wi‑Fi does not?
It points toward wireless placement, interference, credentials, security settings, or router Wi‑Fi configuration. It does not identify one specific cause and does not rule out a separate provider or PSN issue.
Can a wired cable fix a PSN outage?
No. Ethernet compares the PS5’s wireless path with a direct local-network path. It cannot bypass a PlayStation Network incident or an internet-provider failure.
Should I change DNS immediately?
No. DNS is an advanced setting. PlayStation mentions a temporary DNS change for NW-102650-4, but it is not a universal fix. Follow the matching error guidance and ask the ISP or network administrator if you are unsure.
Does PS5 work on IPv6?
The PS5 supports IPv6, but not an IPv6-only network. The router must also use IPv4. Ask the router manufacturer or ISP for help changing an IPv6-only configuration.
How long should the modem and router stay off?
PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance says to leave them off for at least five minutes, then power them on and wait for normal connection indicators before testing the PS5.
When should I contact PlayStation instead of my ISP?
Contact the ISP or router administrator for provider outages, Wi‑Fi credentials, IPv4 mode, filtering, ports, DNS, or router configuration. Contact PlayStation support when both wired and wireless tests fail despite normal internet on other devices, a clear PSN status, correct credentials, restarts, and the relevant error-code steps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I check PSN status first?
An outage or maintenance event can block sign-in even when your home internet works. Check the live status before changing router settings, then retry when service returns.
What if my Wi‑Fi network is missing from the PS5 list?
Move the PS5 closer, confirm the access point is broadcasting, and use Set Up Manually or WPS when supported. Verify the SSID and wireless details.

What does a successful Ethernet test show?
It suggests the wireless path needs attention, such as placement, interference, credentials, security, or router Wi‑Fi configuration. It does not prove a single cause.
Should I change DNS for every PS5 connection problem?
No. DNS changes are advanced and code-dependent. PlayStation specifically mentions them for NW-102650-4; follow that guidance or ask your ISP.
Does PS5 support IPv6?
Yes, but an IPv6-only network is unsupported. The router must also use IPv4.
How long should I power off the modem and router?

The Bottom Line
Check PSN status and the complete error code first. Then verify SSID, password, and security method, improve placement, restart the PS5, power-cycle the modem and router for at least five minutes, and compare Wi‑Fi with Ethernet. Reserve DNS, IP, port, filtering, and IPv6 changes for the matching error guidance or a network administrator. If both wired and wireless tests still fail while other devices work, contact PlayStation support with your recorded results.
