Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsStart by checking that your exact wheelbase is PS5-compatible, selecting its PlayStation mode before connecting it, and plugging it directly into the console. Let it finish starting up, then press the wheel’s PS button. If the PS5 menus recognize it but one game does not, troubleshoot that game’s wheel support and settings rather than treating it as a console connection failure.
1. Confirm that your exact wheel is PS5-compatible
Check the model name on the wheelbase and look up that exact model in its manufacturer’s PS5 compatibility information. A wheel working on PC—or a compatible rim attached to a base—does not establish that the complete setup works on PS5. Fanatec says PlayStation compatibility is built into select wheelbases; its FAQ lists Gran Turismo DD Pro and ClubSport DD+ as PlayStation-compatible. See Fanatec’s PlayStation Compatibility FAQ.
Compatibility with the console also does not guarantee support in every game. Check the manufacturer’s information for both the wheel model and the game you want to play.
2. Set the wheel to PlayStation mode before connecting it
If your wheel has a platform switch or mode setting, use the manufacturer’s PS5 instructions before plugging in the USB cable. The required position and indicators vary by model; do not copy another wheel’s button sequence or LED colors.

Thrustmaster T150
Set the sliding switch to PS5-PS4 before connecting the wheel to the console’s USB port. Thrustmaster’s T150 support instructions specify that order.
Thrustmaster T128
The T128 uses LED colors to indicate mode: green is PC, blue is PlayStation standard compatibility, and red is PlayStation future compatibility. Its mode instructions recommend blue for PS4 and PS5. Check the current T128 mode instructions and the game’s compatibility listing, since the mode a title supports can matter.

Fanatec wheelbases
Fanatec’s console troubleshooting instructions say to select PS mode and describe a blue power LED for its supported setup. Follow the directions for your own base in Fanatec’s PS4/PS5 recognition FAQ; do not infer the correct mode from another manufacturer’s indicators.
3. Rule out USB and power problems
- Turn off the console if required by your wheel’s setup instructions, then connect the wheelbase directly to a PS5 USB port.
- Temporarily remove USB hubs, extenders, and extension cables.
- Check that the USB and power connections are seated, inspect the cable and ports for visible damage, and connect the power supply as specified for your model.
- Try another PS5 USB port, then restart the console and wheel according to their instructions.
Thrustmaster, Fanatec, and Logitech all recommend direct USB connection as part of their relevant troubleshooting steps. Logitech’s G29 PlayStation checklist also advises trying another port and avoiding a USB hub.

- Wireless racing wheel and pedals for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, & Windows 11/10
- Battery life up to 10 hours, with an included 6.6ft Charging Cable allowing for wired play.
- Included wireless receiver plugs directly into your console and offers up to 32ft range
- Securely fasten the wheel to your desk, table, or racing wheel stand with the sturdy clamp
- Officially licensed by Sony
For a T150 with power or abnormal-calibration symptoms, Thrustmaster additionally recommends connecting it directly to a wall outlet rather than a power strip or extension cord. Follow the power requirements for your own wheel; not every model uses the same arrangement.
4. Let the wheel start, then press its PS button
Allow the wheel to complete its normal startup or calibration. Then press the wheel’s PS button to access the PlayStation session or profile. Thrustmaster’s T150 instructions place this after calibration; Fanatec also includes pressing the PS button among its recognition steps. If the wheel never powers on or calibrates, skip to the checks for startup symptoms below.

- Full-size racing wheel and pedals optimized for authentic racing simulation
- 270-degree turn radius with adjustable output options
- Mount security with sturdy clamp system
- Use the HORI Device Manager app to download firmware, adjust settings and make up to 4 custom profiles
5. Check whether the problem is the PS5 or one game
Test whether the wheel responds in the PS5 menus. If it does, try another game that the manufacturer lists as supporting your exact wheel. A wheel that works in the menus or another supported title but not in one game points toward game-specific support, mode, updates, or settings—not necessarily a failed console connection.
Check the game’s current update and in-game control settings, then verify its platform version, wheel model, and required wheel mode against the manufacturer’s list. Thrustmaster’s T128 support page provides a game list with PS5 and mode information for individual titles. Logitech also recommends checking console and game updates and settings, and testing with different games or consoles. Do not assume every PS5 racing game supports every wheel.

6. Update firmware only with the correct model-specific process
Look up the exact wheelbase on its manufacturer’s support site and use the current updater and instructions provided for that model. Some compatible games may require current wheel firmware.
For its firmware process, Fanatec specifies a Windows PC, the latest driver package, and its firmware update manager. Logitech says its older G29 Firmware Update Tool is no longer supported or maintained, so do not rely on that retired tool. Avoid installing firmware or using recovery steps intended for a different model.
7. Use the symptom to choose the next step
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| No lights or startup calibration | Check the model-specific power and USB connections first. Thrustmaster provides wake-up or bootloader guidance for named models and matching symptoms; use it only when the instructions apply to your exact model. |
| The wheel lights or calibrates, but the PS5 does not respond | Recheck PS5 compatibility and PlayStation mode, connect directly to another USB port, allow startup to finish, and press the wheel’s PS button. |
| The PS5 menus respond, but one game does not | Check that title’s compatibility with the exact wheel and PS5 version, its required mode, updates, and in-game settings. |
| Visible damage or no recognition after the applicable checks | Stop trying generic mode combinations and contact the wheel manufacturer’s technical support. |
When contacting support, provide the exact wheelbase model, firmware version if known, whether it powers on and calibrates, whether the PS5 menus respond, which games you tested, and the checks you already tried. Fanatec advises contacting technical support if its recognition troubleshooting does not resolve the issue or damage is visible.
When a replacement is actually relevant
Replacement is not the default fix for a recognition problem. Consider it only after the model-specific checks indicate the wheel is unsupported or faulty. Compare explicit PS5 compatibility for the exact base, support for the games you play, setup and firmware requirements, and whether a damaged part may be covered by the manufacturer’s support or warranty. Fanatec’s compatibility FAQ illustrates why the base matters; Thrustmaster’s game list illustrates why support can vary by title. A compatible T128 is one possible example, not a required solution: check its current support page and the exact game before choosing any replacement.
