The Razer Barracuda X Chroma pairs six-zone Chroma RGB earcup lighting with two wireless connection options: 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed through its USB-C dongle and Bluetooth. Razer lists support for PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and other devices, but not Xbox wireless. Its battery estimates are up to 70 hours with lighting off or 30 hours with lighting on over 2.4 GHz; those are Razer’s figures, not independent test results.
What “the bling” means
The Chroma edition adds six-zone RGB lighting to the Barracuda X line. Razer’s October 24, 2024 launch announcement described 16.8 million color options and Chroma integration with more than 300 games. Those are Razer’s published claims, not independently measured counts.
Razer framed the lighting as a response to gamers asking for more visually immersive features. The announcement did not provide survey results or measured demand. It quoted Barrie Ooi, Head of Razer’s PC Gaming Division, saying, “The Barracuda X Chroma is a direct result of feedback from our gaming community.”
How the dual wireless connections work
The headset can connect to a 2.4 GHz device through its included USB Type-C HyperSpeed dongle and to a Bluetooth device at the same time. Razer’s SmartSwitch feature lets you toggle between the two modes; it is not a claim that both audio streams play simultaneously.

- For mobile listening: Razer recommends Bluetooth.
Razer’s product page states a 20 ms latency response for the Type-C HyperSpeed dongle and compares it with 35 ms for the Barracuda X. This is a vendor comparison, not an independently verified latency test. Check that your device supports the connection method you plan to use.
Compatibility: supported devices and the Xbox limitation
Razer lists PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, Mac and Android among compatible platforms, as well as devices that support Bluetooth or USB-C. Its product FAQ says Xbox wireless is not supported. Compatibility depends on the device and connection, so confirm that your particular setup accepts the USB-C dongle or Bluetooth as needed.

Battery, weight and microphone
Razer lists a weight of 285 g, 40 mm TriForce drivers and a detachable HyperClear cardioid microphone. Its US product page, accessed October 4, 2026, gives these battery estimates over 2.4 GHz:

Launch price and what it does not tell you
Razer announced the Barracuda X Chroma on October 24, 2024, at a US MSRP of $129.99 and said it was available that day through Razer.com, RazerStores and authorized resellers. That is the historical launch MSRP, not a verified current selling price. Current street price and inventory are not established here.

The Barracuda X Chroma is worth considering if you want a wireless gaming headset with visible RGB, a detachable microphone and the flexibility to switch between a gaming dongle and Bluetooth device. It is a poor fit if Xbox wireless is essential. The published specifications cover connections and headline battery estimates, but do not establish sound quality or real-world battery life through independent testing.
