Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallThere is no single FFmpeg flag that fixes every stream that stops after its first playlist video. First identify what “playlist” means in your command: an FFmpeg concat-demuxer script, an HLS manifest, or a YouTube playlist being processed by yt-dlp and piped to FFmpeg. Those workflows fail at different points. To diagnose your exact case, you need the full command and the log output around the transition.
Identify which playlist your command uses
Check the input after -i and note which program is supposed to advance to the next video. An FFmpeg concat script, an HLS .m3u8 manifest, and a yt-dlp playlist piped into FFmpeg are not interchangeable.
- Local concat list: The input is a text file listing media files. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads the listed files in sequence.
- HLS input: The input is an
.m3u8manifest. Treat it as HLS, not as a concat-demuxer script. - yt-dlp pipe: The command runs yt-dlp and sends its output to FFmpeg. Check whether yt-dlp advances to the next playlist entry and whether the pipe stays open.
Also determine whether FFmpeg exits at the transition or remains running but stops producing video. Save the complete command, FFmpeg version, and the log lines at the transition; without them, the specific cause is not established.
Fix a local FFmpeg concat-demuxer list
1. Verify the list and input path
A basic concat-demuxer script looks like this:
ffconcat version 1.0
file 'video-01.mp4'
file 'video-02.mp4'
If you rely on automatic format detection, ffconcat version 1.0 must be exactly the first line. Confirm that the second file is listed and that your FFmpeg command actually uses this script as its input. Quote or escape paths containing spaces or special characters correctly. The FFmpeg Formats Documentation describes the concat demuxer and its script syntax.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Compare the first and second files’ streams
Use ffprobe or FFmpeg’s input logs to compare the files. Check that they have matching streams and relevant properties, including stream count, codecs, time bases, dimensions, audio sample rates, and channel layouts. FFmpeg’s concat-demuxer documentation states: “All files must have the same streams (same codecs, same time base, etc.).”
Stream copy with -c copy does not make incompatible inputs compatible: it passes encoded packets through rather than normalizing their properties. If the files differ, prepare them with common stream properties or consider a concat-filter workflow instead.

3. Check durations and the transition timestamps
The concat demuxer uses each file’s duration to place the next file’s timestamps. Incorrect or unavailable duration metadata can cause artifacts or timing trouble at a boundary. If you know a file’s correct duration, the script’s duration directive can override its stored duration; verify the value from the media or a reliable probe instead of guessing.
Timestamp adjustment is global, so files with streams of different lengths may create gaps. Review the log and probe results at the transition before changing durations. See the FFmpeg Formats Documentation for duration directives and timestamp behavior.

4. Choose demuxer or filter based on compatibility
The concat demuxer is suitable when the files meet its stream-compatibility requirements and you want to stream-copy. The concat filter works on decoded media and can be used when processing or normalization is needed, but it may require re-encoding. Re-encoding consumes compute and can change quality; stream copy is faster and avoids a new encode, but depends on compatible streams. FFmpeg explains the distinction in its FAQ.
Trace a yt-dlp playlist piped into FFmpeg
In a yt-dlp-to-FFmpeg workflow, first establish which process stops advancing. yt-dlp documents playlist processing and piping output to standard output; YouTube may also provide separate audio and video formats. See the yt-dlp documentation and its FAQ.

- Capture yt-dlp’s progress output and check whether it reports moving to the next playlist entry.
- Test the downloader output independently to see whether it completes or advances as intended.
- Test the downstream FFmpeg command separately, so you can tell whether the failure occurs before or after the pipe.
- Confirm that the intended program owns playlist iteration. A pipe that handles one media item is not automatically the same as a process that iterates a playlist.
Do not add arbitrary retry options before identifying where the process stops; the available details do not establish a universal retry setting for this symptom.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Handle an HLS manifest as HLS
If FFmpeg’s input is an HLS .m3u8, do not replace it with concat-demuxer syntax or assume a local file-list problem. Identify whether FFmpeg is reading an HLS source playlist or publishing HLS segments for upload. YouTube’s HLS live-ingestion guide describes requirements for uploaded media playlists and segments, but those requirements do not by themselves explain a local concat-list transition failure.

Common symptoms and what to check
| Symptom | Check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg reaches the first file’s end and exits | Whether the actual input is a concat script and whether it lists the second file | Correct the input path or list, then inspect the transition log. |
| Second file is listed, but the transition fails or has artifacts | Stream compatibility and duration metadata for both files | Compare stream properties; verify durations and consider preparing compatible inputs or using the concat filter. |
| yt-dlp output ends after one video | yt-dlp playlist progress and whether the pipe remains open | Test yt-dlp independently, then test FFmpeg separately. |
The input is an .m3u8 |
Whether FFmpeg is reading HLS or uploading HLS segments | Use the configuration for that HLS workflow; concat-script syntax is unrelated. |
These checks distinguish possible failure points; they do not establish one cause as the most common. To get a specific diagnosis, share the full command, FFmpeg version, input type, relevant stream information for the first two videos, and the log lines where the transition occurs.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping on YouTube rather than troubleshoot a do-it-yourself FFmpeg setup, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams uploaded files as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
