If your YouTube radio broadcast drops around the time your broadband reconnects or its public IP changes, first find out whether the encoder lost its internet connection. A changed public IP alone is not established as the cause: the interruption may be the brief loss of the broadband connection during reconnection. Broadcasters should check encoder and outbound-upload health; listeners should test playback on another device or connection. These are different problems with different fixes.
First identify whether you are broadcasting or listening
If you send a radio programme to YouTube Live, troubleshoot the encoder’s outbound connection to YouTube. If you are listening to someone else’s stream, troubleshoot playback between your device, broadband and YouTube. A listener cannot repair a broadcaster’s encoder connection.
YouTube says connectivity disruption can break a live stream, but its guidance does not establish that a public-IP change by itself causes a drop. The useful question is whether your connection briefly went down at the same time. Note the exact time, what stopped working, any encoder error, and the Live Control Room stream-health notice.
If you are broadcasting: locate the break
Check the encoder and the rest of the connection
- At the next drop, check local internet access. See whether the streaming computer or encoder can still reach other sites or services. If several services fail too, that points toward a broader connection interruption rather than only a YouTube stream issue.
- Check the encoder status and YouTube stream health. If the encoder reports it is still sending but the stream is unhealthy, focus on the outbound connection. If local encoder output is unhealthy, check its software version, CPU load, and audio/video inputs. If available, inspect the local recording to see whether the source itself continued to work.
- Record the evidence. Keep the timestamp, encoder message, Live Control Room health notice, and whether the stream resumed on its own. This gives your ISP and any encoder support team something concrete to investigate.
YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder, stream health and internet connection; it also advises contacting the ISP if connection testing finds a problem.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Test upload stability, not just download speed
A fast download result does not prove that your encoder has enough stable outbound capacity. YouTube notes that inbound bandwidth is often greater than outbound. Test the connection’s upload performance, preferably while the encoder is sending a private or unlisted test stream, and watch for interruptions as well as the reported speed.
YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% upload headroom and accounting for both primary and backup stream bitrate. Treat that as setup guidance, not a guarantee that a connection will survive a broadband reconnection. YouTube also recommends that total stream bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth. Its encoder settings and bitrate guidance and live streaming tips can help you check settings for your chosen resolution and encoder.

- If upload is inconsistent or the broader connection drops, share the test results and timestamps with your ISP. Ask whether a WAN disconnect or broadband-session reconnection coincided with the public-IP change.
- If other services remain online but YouTube ingest fails, compare encoder status with YouTube’s stream-health information before changing network equipment or credentials.
Use Ethernet to rule out Wi-Fi
If practical, connect the streaming computer or encoder directly to the router with Ethernet and run a controlled test. This removes Wi-Fi range and interference as variables. It does not prevent a drop if the router loses its connection to the ISP during reconnection or an address change. A cable is a diagnostic aid, not an IP-change cure.
Test recovery before relying on it
If you have a backup encoder or failover setup, test it before an important broadcast. YouTube suggests stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable during a planned test, then confirming playback moves to the backup. Do not deliberately interrupt a live event you cannot afford to lose. See YouTube’s streaming tips for preparation and failover guidance.

Do not reset the stream key just because the IP changed
A stream key is the configuration credential an encoder uses to send a feed to YouTube. YouTube advises resetting the key and updating the encoder when there is an encoder-start or key problem. Its guidance does not recommend resetting the key merely because broadband changed public IP. Treat a key error and a network interruption as separate possibilities, and follow the troubleshooting instructions only when the symptoms point to a key or encoder-start issue. You can also review YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance.
If you are only watching the radio stream
- Try the stream on another device or internet connection. Check whether other YouTube videos and other services stall at the same time.
- If only one device on Wi-Fi has trouble, check router range and interference, and reduce competing network use. YouTube’s computer playback troubleshooting covers these viewer-side checks.
- If playback fails across multiple devices when your broadband reconnects, note the timing and contact your ISP. If other YouTube content continues to play normally, the issue may be with the broadcaster’s stream rather than your connection.
What an IP change does—and does not—tell you
The available YouTube guidance does not establish how a particular Indian ISP handles public-IP changes, whether your service uses dynamic addressing or reconnects a broadband session, or whether a static IP, dynamic DNS, VPN or router upgrade will keep an encoder session alive. Do not buy equipment or change credentials on the assumption that the address change alone is the cause. Ask the ISP whether the address change coincides with a brief WAN disconnect, and provide your timestamps and encoder or stream-health details.
