First identify whether playback has actually stopped in OBS. If the playlist reaches its end, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source; if it stops when you change scenes, check that source’s Visibility Behaviour. If media keeps advancing locally but the live output is choppy or viewers see buffering, troubleshoot OBS performance or the stream connection instead. These symptoms have different causes and fixes.
Find out what “freezing” means in your setup
Watch the source in OBS when the problem occurs, and compare it with what viewers see. The key question is whether the media itself has stopped advancing or whether playback continues while OBS renders or delivers the stream poorly.
- The playlist reaches its last item and stops: check the playlist loop setting and playlist contents.
- Playback stops after a scene change or when the source is hidden: check the source’s visibility behavior.
- The media advances, but the OBS output is choppy or reports encoding overload: investigate rendering and encoding performance.
- OBS continues playing, but viewers see buffering or OBS reports dropped frames: investigate the connection and bitrate path.
OBS distinguishes source playback controls from performance and connection problems in its Sources Guide and troubleshooting guidance. A viewer’s buffering report alone does not prove that the playlist has frozen.
Check which OBS source is playing the bhajans
OBS has two relevant source types, and their controls are not interchangeable:

- Media Source plays a media file. For a single recording, check its Loop setting.
- VLC Video supports a playlist. Check its Loop Playlist setting.
If you are unsure which one is in use, select the source in the Sources list and open its properties. OBS documents both source types and their controls on its Media Sources page, dated January 11, 2022.
Fix a playlist that stops at the end
- Select the VLC Video source that contains the bhajan playlist in the OBS Sources list.
- Open its properties and find Loop Playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist if you want OBS to restart the playlist after its media files have played. OBS lists this option as on by default, but verify the actual source setting rather than relying on the default.
- Check the playlist entries if looping is enabled but playback still stops. Confirm that the expected files are present and that the playlist does not simply end with no playable media.
OBS describes Loop Playlist as specifying whether the source restarts when it has run out of media files. If you are playing only one file through a Media Source instead, check that source’s Loop control; changing the VLC playlist setting will not fix a Media Source.

Fix a source that pauses when you change scenes
A VLC Video source has a Visibility Behaviour property that controls what happens when the source is not visible. Depending on the selected behavior, playback can continue, pause, or stop while the source is hidden.
- Select the VLC Video source and open its properties.
- Find Visibility Behaviour.
- Choose the behavior that matches your scene layout. If the playlist must keep playing while the source is hidden, do not use a behavior that pauses or stops it.
- Test a scene change and confirm that playback resumes or continues as intended.
If the source is meant to play only in one scene, a pause or stop on hiding may be intentional. Choose based on how your scenes are designed rather than treating one option as universally correct.

Check VLC installation if the playlist source is missing or unreliable
The VLC Video source depends on VLC libraries. OBS says VLC must be installed, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If you cannot add the VLC Video source or its media support behaves unexpectedly, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS. The built-in Media Source is a separate option for individual media files.
When playback continues but OBS output is choppy
If the bhajan media keeps advancing inside OBS but the rendered output stutters or OBS reports encoding overload, this is a performance issue rather than a playlist-loop failure. OBS’s Encoding Performance Troubleshooting guide, dated June 12, 2021, recommends reducing avoidable workload.

- Simplify complex scenes and limit expensive sources.
- Use media at a resolution suited to the stream output.
- Remove unnecessary filters.
- Check whether the problem appears only in a particularly complex scene.
These are targeted steps for choppy output or overload symptoms; they do not replace checking the loop setting when the playlist itself ends.

OBS also exposes Network caching (ms) on VLC Video; its documented default is 400. The OBS documentation does not prescribe changing this value as a general fix for playlist freezing. Treat it as a targeted option only when you have a specific network-media symptom to investigate, not as a universal remedy.
