Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →First find out whether the drift is in the YouTube stream or only in your local monitoring. Then compare the audio/video offset at the start and after a measured interval: a steady offset and one that grows over time point to different troubleshooting paths. There is no single fix that applies to every setup, so check the source, encoder, YouTube stream health, and monitoring route before changing timing settings.
Locate where the audio goes out of sync
Listen to the actual YouTube live output and compare it with the sound you hear locally through headphones or speakers. Local monitoring and the outgoing stream can follow different signal paths; a monitoring device’s clock is one possible explanation for monitor-only delay accumulation, but that is a troubleshooting hypothesis, not proof of the cause in your setup.
- The YouTube stream stays in sync, but local monitoring drifts: investigate the monitoring route and playback device before changing the stream’s audio timing.
- The live output drifts too: check a representative segment of the stream and its replay, then inspect the source, encoder output, and YouTube’s stream-health information.
Write down the offset near the beginning and again after a known interval. Use the same playback path and measurement method both times. A roughly unchanged offset is different from an offset that grows; a fixed sync adjustment may address a constant offset, but it should not be assumed to fix accumulating drift.
Check the audio path and stream settings
- Preserve the current setup. Before making changes, note the source or playback method, encoder settings, audio device settings, and any available logs. For a continuous channel, avoid making untracked changes while relying on the stream to stay live.
- Check YouTube Live stream health and configuration. Look for reported audio issues and confirm the outgoing audio codec, sample rate, and channel count. YouTube’s LiveStreams documentation recommends 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz sample rates.
- Compare the source, encoder, and reported output. Check that the audio input/device settings agree with the encoder’s output and that YouTube reports the expected configuration. Correct a mismatch if you find one rather than changing every component without a diagnosis.
- If you use a primary and backup stream, compare them. YouTube’s configuration guidance says the primary and backup streams should match in codec, sample rate, and channel count.
- Test the result over a measured interval. Recheck the same output path and record whether the offset stays constant or grows. Change one relevant setting at a time so you can tell whether it affected the symptom.
Check connection trouble separately
In OBS, inspect dropped-frame and connection indicators as a separate diagnostic. OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. That can impair delivery, but dropped frames alone do not establish the cause of audio drift. If OBS shows connection trouble, follow its network and bitrate troubleshooting rather than treating a sync offset as proof of a network problem.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not mistake delivery latency for drift
Latency is how long the stream takes to reach viewers; drift is a change in the relative timing of audio and video. YouTube says HLS has higher latency because it sends video segments rather than a continuous stream like RTMP. HLS also has protocol-specific segment and encoder requirements, but higher latency by itself is not evidence that switching protocols will fix gradual audio/video desynchronization. Change ingest protocol only when your diagnosis gives you a reason to do so.
Common symptoms and next checks
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Only headphones or speakers drift; YouTube stays in sync | Investigate the local monitoring path and playback device. Do not immediately alter the outgoing stream’s sync settings. |
| The YouTube output starts out of sync but the offset does not grow | Measure and document the offset, then check for a source-to-encoder timing mismatch. A constant offset is not the same symptom as accumulating drift. |
| The YouTube output gets progressively more out of sync | Compare offsets over a known interval and inspect the source, encoder, audio device, and YouTube audio configuration for a mismatch. The available evidence does not establish one universal correction. |
| YouTube reports an audio configuration issue | Check the codec, sample rate, and channel count at the encoder output; compare primary and backup settings if both are in use. |
| OBS reports dropped frames or unstable connection | Investigate connection stability and whether the configured bitrate can be sustained. Treat this as a delivery issue to diagnose separately from sync drift. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your rain stream is made from uploaded video rather than a live camera, StreamNeo can keep that YouTube stream running from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. This changes where the video is played and removes the need to leave a computer running at home; it is not a guaranteed repair for audio that is already out of sync in the uploaded file or encoder output.
